Admissions/Application Question Additional Info
I just submitted UNC and while reviewing my application afterward, I realized that I accidentally submitted an older version of a paragraph in my Additional Information section instead of my finalized version.
For context, I was explaining how my caregiving responsibilities affected my academics and why I took 8 AP classes during my junior year.
Here’s what I actually submitted:
“When registering for 11th grade classes during 10th grade, I took 8 APs to recover from my tanked GPA due to the situation described earlier, since I thought my caregiving responsibilities would end, so I would be able to dedicate my full attention to school.
However, by the time my father had to get a revision surgery, my classes already started for 11th grade and it was incredibly difficult to get my schedule to be accommodated towards my situation since my counselor left at the beginning of the school year, so I had no help regarding my academic load.”
Here’s what I intended to submit
“When registering for classes my junior year, I took 8 APs in order to prove my academic potential, especially because I believed I had fallen short in the previous year due to the caretaking responsibilities mentioned above. I had thought that since my caregiving responsibilities were coming to an end, I would be able to dedicate my full attention to school. However, by the time I had learned my father would need revision surgery, my classes had already started for 11th grade, and it was difficult to get accommodations and resources to assist with my schedule, especially with my established school counselor leaving at the start of the school year.”
I know both versions communicate essentially the same circumstances, but I’m particularly worried about how phrases like “tanked GPA” and “I had no help” might come across to admissions officers. I also think me not referencing “academic potential” and similar things was bad.
Do you think the difference is significant enough to affect my application? Should I email UNC to request a correction?

I’d leave it. It conveys the same thing. While not as polished, what you submitted was authentic and in your voice. I don’t think this is going to materially affect your application.

Tbh the first one actually sounds a bit more reasonable because "taking 8 APs to prove my academic potential" sounds like BS lol. At least the first one sounds like you knew it wasn't a good idea academically but you thought it was required to get your GPA back to normal.
