Academic/Career Anyone successfully negotiate with Penn HR for salary higher than what’s stated in offer letter?
I got a job offer for a research position at HUP! The salary isn’t determined by the PI or manager. Rather, HR writes an offer letter that includes a salary they determine.
I got the offer letter today and I’m hoping to negotiate 2-4k more… anyone have success with this? Tips on how to go about it? Or is their determination pretty much set in stone?

Do you have a competing offer or do you just want more money?
Also, what was the pay range listed in the post and what did they offer you?

Clinical research jobs at Penn (note- Penn HR, not UPHS or CPUP) have firm, inflexible offers from central HR. There was variance between departments pre-pandemic that were standardized uniformly in pandemic days. CR at Penn pays low. CRC A typically ~$47k, CRC B ~$53k, CRC C ~$63k, and PM A ~$74k

you can always ask. just be prepared to hear no. I have hired at Penn and seen it go both ways.

Are you working for HUP or as a University employee in the hospital? I mean, you can negotiate anywhere, but be careful you don't negotiate your way out of an offer.
Generally, HUP HR has more flexibility on the $$$, but employees can be penalized for sick leave, while University employees get holidays and more time off, but a lower overall pay rate.
