DISCUSSION The stupid SpeedX delivery driver actually took MY packages out of the person's mailbox to put theirs in

I noticed because this person doesn't get their mail regularly like every 3-4 days. And my 2 packages from yesterday were tossed on the ground at the mailbox with the oversized stuffed SpeedX in it. Like are you insane??? And I almost feel bad charging the customer postage due and confiscating the package. But like I don't see how to negatively ding the stupid delivery driver services like those that disregard THE LAW for a few seconds of laziness to walk to the door. Also had like 7 more in other mailboxes that day.

Can't let any company normalize this. Anyone that thinks it's an "inconvenience" to the customer is just self sabotaging not only themselves, but the PO as a whole in the future.

If you as a carrier value this job long term, make sure you bring these all back either as postage due or check dispatch for a hamper for destruction/return to a hub for proper handling.

Don't feel bad. It's the only way you can get the customer to understand the severity of this and for them to get on speedx's ass.

u/djankylosaur City Carrier 23h ago

The customers never get it though. They just get upset at the carrier and freak out on us because it's "not their problem" and "they can do whatever they want with THEIR mailbox". I've experienced this several times when someone asks why I stole their package, and why they have to pay $30 to get it back.

Like... That's not what's happening.

"The company you bought from used a third party shipping company that violated their own policy along with US Federal law and postal policy.

If you need to file a complaint, please contact the company you bought from."

I pull on avg 4 parcels daily, I have zero issues with anyone inquiring why I removed something from their mailbox.

I tell every customer this and they are more than understanding. Obviously there are some outliers but if you put it plainly and give them a pink slip tell them they can speak to a supervisor at the post office if they have anymore questions. Easiest way to make it no longer your problem lol

I’m a cca and don’t know- what is the procedure to do this ? My office is very lax and lets ppl get away with all sorts of shit. How do I drop the hammer?

7

u/ithics UAR Carrier 21h ago

Check with a closing clerk, see if they know of any type of setup for parcels not belonging to USPS. The hamper you're looking for should be near the same staging for UPS/Amazon/FedEx misthrows.
If there isn't an option for that, ask any clerk how they process "no postage applied", this falls under that same category.

u/Arrasor 23h ago

And why haven't you gotten stickers with the mailbox LAW written on it to hand out yet?

Edit: hand them the sticker, tell them it's federal law and they will need to take it with the Fed and make Congress pass new law if they don't like how you handle this.

11

u/djankylosaur City Carrier 23h ago

I've never heard of these stickers. Can my manager order them? I would carry a stack of these if we had them.

11

u/ImWrong_OnTheNet 23h ago

Are there actually stickers, and should management have them?

What sticker? What’s the form #?

Shouldnt be on the customer to play parcel politics when the average American has no idea what's going on

So we should ignore the law?

It’s pretty common knowledge that only paid postage is allowed in the mailbox lol I’ve known that since middle school at least

I had a SpeedX driver arrested on my route 2 years ago. I caught him stuffing packages into a mailbox, so I pulled up and told him he couldn’t do it. He barely spoke English, so I had to physically take his box out and give it back to him. He got mad and pushed me, so I called the police. He was cuffed right there on the side of the road.

u/Repulsive-Bat-5995 22h ago

See, the way my instincts are set up.... Lol, I applaud you though. Serious restraint

Let mailmen carry guns again.

We have one black Hyundai (you can see it in the delivery pictures) doing this for a year on and off. He backed up into the UPS truck a week ago so now the Brown AND the Blue people are on the lookout. Our sheriff runs Black and Yellows so he just needs to hit a FedEx truck and get the Purple and White folks looking for him...

2

u/tupacshaparkour 18h ago

Not gonna lie, was trying to figure out if you were being racist or not. Luckily blue and purple couldn’t be confused anything of the sorts… carry on, I’ll see myself out.

39

u/zeusmeister Rural Carrier 23h ago

Speedx does it on my route ALL the time. I always take it back to the office.

Less often, FedEx and UPS occasionally put their package in the box if, I’m assuming, they don’t like the road to the customers house (my route is very rural in the mountains).

I take those back to the office too lol

15

u/TerrySizzle 22h ago

This is the best answer. Postage due those suckers.

Okay. as someone who did this very, VERY, VERY VERY rarely when I was delivering for the Purple next day monster......

there were two requirements that I had to meet before I allowed myself to do it:

  1. was the driveway extremely long to walk and too dangerous to drive?
  2. was the package of actual human importance, such as medication?

2.5) did you forget the release bags?

Amazon? Unable to deliver, unsafe conditions. Monthly Cheese of the month? Same, try again. Medication or anything actually critical, I'd roll the dice. Thankfully most of the RCAs in our area were willing to look the other way for the one time during a blizzard I'd leave their pills in there.

This was also super-rural, places where the only service we offered was next day service. No first over, standard over, or 2day am. Commit times were always end of day.

Wrong? Yep, totally. Thankfully the RCAs on that route understood and never pulled any of the pkgs. Again, it was extenuating circumstances.

1

u/PKSnowstorm 11h ago

I assume that you did not make a habit of stuffing things in mailboxes and actually did your job properly to the best of your ability in non-extenuating circumstances. Most RCAs would definitely look the other way in extenuating circumstances in putting things in mailboxes when you would otherwise deliver it properly by your company’s protocol.

The only time you would probably get in trouble with an RCA if you have a habit of doing it and prevented them from doing their jobs.

1

u/Starblazr Professionally Enabled 10h ago

Exactly -- and that's why most RCAs probably looked the other way. I'm paid to the door -- during normal operations, always to the door, never to the box. During a blizzard where it may be a few more days before I get back out there due to accumulation AND it passes the test? Mailbox it is!

and yes, the whole "don't be a dick and make the RCAs life harder".... cram that crap full? Oh, I'd fully agree with taking it back.

1

u/SpookyBeck 10h ago

Our managers do not like us to bring them back. I just put them on top of the mailbox so if the customer complains to gofo or whoever that their package was left on top of mailbox all gofo can say is nonwe left it IN the mailbox and let the customer connect the dots

18

u/TheLastBoat City Carrier 23h ago

These pricks have done this in my route as well. It pisses me off that they have the balls to do it right now, during election season. Stay out of the fucking boxes!
I rolled up on one guy the other day as he just finished doing it and he learning jumped out of his skin. I gave him a warning and placed the parcel on the chair next to the door.

15

u/LightbluBukowski City Carrier 23h ago

It’s not that they have the balls to do it, but the fact that they are ignorant. They simply just don’t know.

(And that company probably tells them to leave it in the mailbox)

7

u/TheLastBoat City Carrier 22h ago

Oh, they’re definitely morons!

5

u/TerrySizzle 21h ago

Morons or USPS management material? They probably know not to tell workers to use mailboxes but still tell them to anyways.

3

u/jetogill 9h ago

I had uniuni doing it all over the route, and when it was a small one they'd try to hide it under the previous days mail, so they knew they weren't to do it.

16

u/slimeydave 23h ago

It shouldn’t be the customer getting charged, but the shipper; at least as I understood it.

8

u/Loki8382 22h ago

Yeah, it's supposed to be the shipper charged. Not the customer.

14

u/User_3971 Maintenance 23h ago

Take the SpeedX packages back to the office. Postage due everything.

13

u/Loki8382 22h ago

The customer isn’t the one who is supposed to be charged the postage due. We are supposed to be charging the companies that delivered the items incorrectly.

8

u/tanyagrzez 23h ago

I had a handful of GoFo packages in mailboxes on a specific day, likely all from the same contractor. I've never actually had to confiscate packages before, but I had a small arm full of them to send back due to one delivery driver's laziness/breaking the goddamn law.

10

u/tpark27 City Carrier 22h ago

I had to Google what speedx, but between your post and the immediate search results saying they are horrible tells me all I need haha

Where does speedX operate, I carry (city carrier) in North Texas and haven't seen any of them, am I just completely oblivious?

4

u/Repulsive-Bat-5995 21h ago

All over NC I can tell you that, damn near anything from tik Tok shop, IG, temu blah blah blah... Are being delivered by them, dude pulled up and jumped out of a busted Camry to give me a plant shelf I ordered in temu wearing leather sandals, gym shorts and a beater.. I live in the middle of a farmers field, and I'm always armed outside of work..he's genuinely lucky my dogs saw him coming and started braking.. he didn't look even slightly professional, if he hadn't had a package in his hands I would have thought a random crackhead jumped out on me

3

u/Far-Conflict-1172 21h ago

They have a site in Flower Mound and deliver as far south as Fort Hood. I had my go round with the shitbags it's awful.

3

u/DefectiveBecca 17h ago

Vinted is trying to use SpeedX to operate their VintedGo network in the USA, they are expanding rapidly.

6

u/General_Swimming_976 22h ago

From what I’ve been told, if they refuse payment, it’s dead mail. The clerks can’t send it back to anyone, honestly seems like a sketchy company to begin with

7

u/Puzzleheaded_Elk1576 Rural Carrier 21h ago

This is actually true. SpeedX is such a shady company that they have no centralized office or customer service. It is completely automated and you won’t get anywhere with them. We tried to get them to pick up an entire hamper of postage due parcels for months before throwing them all away.

2

u/Mountain-Poem9830 Clerk 19h ago

Yeah I've had customers come to me with SpeedX packages and said they weren't for them. I had no clue what company it was. I thought it was DHL. I feel horrible because I can't help them. I have no clue wtf to do with them.

1

u/Longjumping_Youth281 12h ago

Yeah whenever I see abandoned/ dead packages it's almost always from them

7

u/Far-Conflict-1172 21h ago

Not surprised. Speedx stole my package recently and used pictures of a delivery from months before to "prove" they dropped it off. You can even see the wrong date and company on the package in their pic. Shits ridiculous.

5

u/tupacshaparkour 18h ago

Legit just had fed ex do this today, like watched them do it, and then drove over to the driver, handed her parcel back to her and said “ you’re violating federal law by putting a parcel in a mailbox, only usps is allowed to service them” she was stunned at my revelation and turned around and walked up the driveway and delivered it to the door.

4

u/Optimal-Position-267 20h ago

Oh hell fucking no

3

u/Bruno-Jupiter 21h ago

Mannnnn, I cannot stand those motherfuckers. I pulled 14 from my mailboxes one day. Best believe every one was brought out the next day as postage due. I leave a note explaining the issue if there’s no answer. Hopefully some of the customers will complain to whomever. Because god knows the post office doesn’t seem to be doing anything about this. This is my biggest pet peeve. I wish the other carriers in my office would do as I do in this situation. But they don’t want the extra work it entails. Rant over

3

u/MasterRice5659 17h ago

That is illegal. The carrier needs to report that to the supervisor. Then they will get ahold of that company. They will get a fine if they keep doing that.

2

u/redredditer91 22h ago

If you don’t want to charge the resident postage due, take the USPS packages and leave notice “receptacle full/item oversized”. Make them go to the office to pick them up.

2

u/Repulsive-Bat-5995 21h ago

Modern problems require... 😂

2

u/FiIbert 21h ago edited 21h ago

Hold and retain the packages that are illegal, report to your supervisor/postmaster and say "This is illegal, I would like postal inspectors to be notified of this incidence"

Follow-through, (With the postmaster, OR union rep if applicable) and ask for a followup response.

Then persist if none get granted.
Then persist again, if no response is given. .....................
Then follow up, until a response is given.

and watch "SpeedX" never commit this federal crime again.

Easy is, easy as. (at least from what i've read about your guys' rules.) Lmfao.

Postal is above... Even the supreme court. Its constitutional. Funny to think ab. (Because some kid smashed a mailbox of a person and a high rank magistrate had to tell the kids 'this is above even me.' on my police report i wrote.) Fun stuff.
(No charges were pressed but. Made my butthole pucker for those kids because that guy was right.)l EVEN WORSE, Their mom was a regular rural carrier and was so mad, i'm pretty sure she BEAT her children for it.)

And honestly? My opinion on that: "I'm a peace enforcer. This is not breaking the peace and is not my place to tell a parent not to whoop a childs bottom. Because that may be religious. I'ma stay out of that can of shenanigans." 'You do what you gotta do, i gotta go... Uhhhh... somebodys running 50 over in a 35 probably. (They'll get a very aggressive warning and me screaming at them to slow the fuck down. Theres kids that like to blind run across the road.)

2

u/chilady34 19h ago

Hunt them down and block their vehicle with yours. Tell them your calling police and postal inspectors. Add a little joy to your day😆

2

u/ThatBeardedNitwit RCA 14h ago

We’re told to just pull their shit out and drop it on the ground outside the mailbox or CBU. Supervisors said they will deal with the gruff from customers and told us to take note of the company doing it. They have already been on top of contacting a few number of the local companies doing it and thankfully pretty much all of them have stopped.

My only complaint now is when I go to deliver at apartments that have a shared parcel/mailbox room and these companies leave big ass packages all over the floor which become tripping hazards or prevent easy movement into the room with mail trays and packages for delivery.

A lot of the apartments in the service area are pretty high end too, makes the mail rooms look really bad.

u/Cutlasss Working the System 12h ago

I once found a speedX package stuffed in a hollow tree that the customer didn't find.

1

u/Prudent-Mission9674 12h ago

speedx, gofo all that kinda of drivers they get paid by commission. Each package is like 1.4-1.6 dollars and .5 for the second package or more for the same address. They are super lazy and give 0 fk. They wanna do it as fast as possible. They often toss packages from gates to front door/porch, take a picture and leave. They dont give a damn. I can totally see how they would stuff their packages in the mailbox to save them a bit of time.

1

u/Throwaway64156 6h ago

This kind of stuff is so rampant now. I've tried inform the drivers they can't leave stuff in boxes and I will remove it, but 99% the person doesn't really speak English like at all. I pulled one out of a vacant locking box (in front of a completely empty store front) because it was crammed so hard it was sticking out. Of course it wasn't for the right address.

I feel bad because I would bet those driver's are abused as fuck by their bosses or whatever the management structure at those places are. I bet the rampant misdeliveries and illegal stuff is because they fear losing their job or being threatened if they're not 100% marked as delivered. I've pulled stuff out of boxes that weren't even the right town.

1

u/Plane_Ad_4359 3h ago

I wish uspis or whomever would start fining these companies. They dont do shit

1

u/etarah 1h ago

Postage due. We can’t subsidize our competitions laziness with inaction

-7

u/Ok-Policy-6463 22h ago

The USPS pays better and pays benefits to people who sign for certifieds and leave them in boxes, don't bother to attempt certifieds, and all kinds of other illegal things. Should more be expected of people who work for these other delivery companies for the compensation they get?

3

u/Far-Conflict-1172 21h ago

Buddy they straight stole my item and used old photos to try and prove they delivered it. With the date from months before on it.
