Mail Handler Discussion Soooo-
Can I never work here or how does this work? I did a appeal and it’s been 3 months and still haven’t heard anything

You had an open criminal case just 6 months ago.
You have to wait 5 years from your open case to get hired at USPS.
You can apply in 2031-2032

Lawd Jesus, well I can forget that

I work for usps too and they go back 7yrs…. Theft, forgery, assault…. Stuff like that is what gets you denied

u/Zealousideal-Tap5368 1d ago
That’s what I heard but I didn’t think a dui for a non drving position would get me denied tbh

Yeah but you can apply to be a Clerk and then transfer to a CCA or RCA position without reapplying or a background check.
So I imagine they do a one size fits all, just in case. Probably easier on the logistics, too.

The above is from a job listing from over a year ago, did you wait 9 months to make an appeal?
Most common reasons for what is a very uncommon rejection would be failure to have resided in the United States at any point during the past 5 years (except for exempted reasons), not a US citizen and without a permanent resident green card, drug trafficking charges, theft (including retail fraud or embezzlement), or driving under the influence where someone was injured, and apparently being on the No Fly List by TSA/Homeland. Deferred or expunged charges that were not done by a federal court are still fully visible to USPIS.
Things that can incorrectly trigger a rejection like that can include (especially in today's economy) working for a foreign company (where you resided in the United States) and they were unable to contact the person you put down to confirm your having lived at a particular address while under that employment.

No this is recent, 9-25-27. They just sent me the offer yesterday. And I have 2 DUI’s on my record and I’m on probation for 1 of them. I can send the denial letter if yall want., if it makes it easier to yall to understand in a way

If you applied for a job that requires driving your disqualified. Two DUI'S is a pattern. Any job that requires driving will probably not hire you.
Time to lay off the bottle my man. You don't want to end up in jail by continuing to drink and drive. Or worse be behind the wheel after drinking and getting into an accident and killing someone. How would you live the rest of your life I'd that happened? What if it was a kid?
2
u/Zealousideal-Tap5368 1d ago
No, i really dont drink anymore tbh. And it was for a mail handler no driving invloved. I dont apply for jobs with driving because of my situation.

Any DUI conviction within 5 years is an automatic denial for any driving position at USPS. Mail handler should not be a position requiring driving qualifications. Were all of the convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol? Or was it under the influence of a different drug?
If it was for being under the influence of an intoxicant which wasn't alcohol, you should include a copy of your evaluation and any mandatory treatments that evaluation recommended, and successful completion of those recommendations. Active probation usually wouldn't be a disqualifier, however USPS can take it into account in a facility where mail handlers would normally use PIT. If you had a third conviction (deferred adjudication where you successfully completed all the requirements and the judge dismissed the case), you would be barred from any future consideration for a job with driving requirements.
In Texas, in particular, almost every 2nd DUI conviction is actually the third.

My first one was on deferred and i think that’s they rejected me. They put that on the rejection letter but I didn’t know what it meant., thanks for your answer. That was helpful. So I basically can’t work here

u/5everc 1d ago
Yeah… it’s not gonna happen unfortunately. You’ll need to find a different career

u/Zealousideal-Tap5368 1d ago

You were found guilty of one in April of 2026 and got another one within 6 months.
Just remember that a DUI is a cakewalk next to getting tried for vehicular manslaughter or homicide. Although, there probably won't be a trial, just a plea deal and then prison.

u/Zealousideal-Tap5368 1d ago
Noooooooo., not exactly. I got my first in 10/2024 and my second 11/2025. I was almost off probation when i got my second one so they extended my probation time on the first one.

This is willfull negligence to follow us laws and proves you are not trustworthy. anything you get caught doing multiple times is reason for an expulsion.

u/CallMeShinryu 1d ago
I'm going to be honest, you should not work anywhere near somewhere like the post office where there's too many moving parts. You'd be a liability with this under your record, and you also need to stop drinking and driving. You're gonna get yourself or someone else killed.

u/Zealousideal-Tap5368 1d ago
I don’t do it anymore., lost too much. But ppl missing the point that I had a whole CDL., so saying ishouldnt be near the PO is kinda offensive to me. Sorry

u/goodgollymisssomaIi 1d ago
You should have never gotten the CDL either
1
u/Zealousideal-Tap5368 20h ago
I’ve been having my CDL for bout 10 years now, if I knew I was gon get a dui trust me I woulda never got it back then.

u/Plane_Concern8985 1d ago
That's gonna show up for at least 3 to 5 years. You can try a non driving position but you won't get a driving position with USPS anytime soon.
1
u/Zealousideal-Tap5368 1d ago
This was a non driving position, that’s why im so confused. It was for a mail handler aka MHA

u/p2_putter 1d ago
Are you sure you have a pulse? Because we hire anyone that can prove they’re alive
0
u/Zealousideal-Tap5368 1d ago
That’s what I’ve heard, that’s why im not understanding why I ain’t get hired. Im not a theif or anything.

u/Totus_Tuus78 PSE 1d ago
You have two DUI’s. You put other people’s lives at risk because of your stupidity and selfishness
1
u/curtisspins 22h ago
You should have waited till you got the job to get a DUI. They make exceptions for it once you're hired.
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Elk1576 Rural Carrier 21h ago
This is a Federal position. They drug test and look into your criminal history. You need to wait until you get hired and join the union to rack up your DUI’s and misdemeanors.

Welcome to America where you can’t handle mail with a dui misdemeanor, but you can be the sitting president of the country and plead guilty to multiple felony counts 😒

u/Zealousideal-Tap5368 1d ago
I must add on my duis, I didn’t hit nobody nor have an accident. I was sleep in my car on side the road for my 1st one and police stopped me for my 2nd.

This job is trash get something better
7
u/Electronic_Fold_7449 1d ago
why you say it’s trash? there is a reason you are still employed by usps.
if u tell the user to find something better, then why don’t you find something better and give up your spot for someone that really wants to work for usps?

u/Comenayeahaw 1d ago
the trainer at academy told me to never listen to any carrier that complains every day at the post office because look who still shows up daily after complaining about it lol.

u/the_walrus123 1d ago
We show up because it’s the only thing that pays “ok” and also no one else is hiring.

If you can't pass the background check you can't work here. That will now depend on your appeal and whether it is accepted. If it is accepted - now you have to wait for a new position to open up. They won't put that MHA job on hold, it already went to someone else.
