Route Pics Anyone else have to deal with stupidly long trains that block you from getting to your route?
This one took 10 minutes 🙃

Not currently, but at a previous station. That was pretty cell phone days, so if you got stuck coming back it was kind of stressful when all of a sudden youre sitting there for 30 minutes and supposed to be off in 15 lol.

Why be stressed? You have good reason for being late. You didn't cause the train to be where it is.

I pass one on the way to work and it conveniently is only there when I'm running early...

I used to work for usps in East Chicago, IN. Half of the town can be blocked off by a train.

My coworker got blocked by a train this morning on their way into work for over an hour

My first route as a regular I had to deal with that. Free money to just sit there.

I used to have one stop on the other side of a massive interchange and I could get stuck waiting for over an hour as multiple trains would come one after another. They've since built a new highway near by with an overpass that bypasses that nonsense.

When we got moved to the S&DC i had to take this road that always had a train crossing if i left the station late. It would take probably 30 min, sometimes it would start backing up back ONTO the road which made it take longer. No idea what it was doing but it always sucked.

A lot of this has to do with the fact they're running longer trains and you can thank E. Hunter Harrison the former CEO of csx for creating the precision railroad method.

Not as a carrier but as a HS upper classman.
Never in my Central Texas area but I lived near Trenton Michigan and you would get stopped for 5-10 minutes or more. That was makeout time.

With my luck, that would happen when I decide to find somewhere to piss because my bladder is yelling at me. Trains run all day in my town, but luckily the tracks are separate from the road.

I’ve started taking pictures and timing them bc I’m sick of getting yelled at with “it shouldn’t have taken you that long” as they send me 30 minutes away with stops 20+ min between them

I got yelled at on inspection because I deviated from my line of travel back to the office. Told the boss if we go this way at this time the train goes by. He said go the right way. Sure enough the gates came down right before we got there. Put me into overtime. After that every time I saw him I said ChooChoooo

I got one on my route that either locks me out from the aquarium stop or locks me in with it.

I always loved it. Gives me an excuse to just relax for a moment. I love how they rumble the ground

Getting to your route? Buddy my office has multiple routes with each half on one side of a set of tracks and I've seen the trains sit on the tracks for literally hours before not moving an inch. Back when they had one of only one way to get around it shut down for over a year some of the routes had drive 10 minutes out of their way some days just to get to the other half of their routes. Used to have an industrial complex on my route before adjustments and the only way in or out was over a set of tracks. The buisnesses had a set of clusters on the opposite side of the tracks but if they got big packages or certs you had to go across. After the third time in less then two weeks I got delayed for over an hour from a train blocking the only way out the sup said no more going across the tracks, if it didn't fit in the box leave a slip and they had to come pick it up, lady that ordered all her Amazon to her work was NOT happy about that 🤣

All the routes at my office are made to stop at the railway and work ur way back. Another carrier hits the other side on their route. That way not one route deals with it.

As a regular on my first route there was three different locations where I would have to cross over the Providence Worcester Railroad tracks. At least twice a week I got an extra two tens. As I’ve been a resident longer than the oldest fossil in the town, and know my town better than any supervisor or PM I never had an issue with stationary events.

I used to live in a place like this. If your vehicle can exceed 35mph, you can probably beat the train to the next crossing, but given some of the vehicles stall when you drive them that fast, it’s best to just wait it out 😂
