Camera Video TIL Raccoon Speak via Ubiquiti Protect

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

Recently set up 10 Ubiquiti cameras to monitor around my house and the entryway. Never expected it to reveal the variety of wild sounds my visiting raccoons can make when they visit. I quickly put this together from raw footage, and am pleased with how Protect did in capturing the attempted yard invasion... Enjoy and AMA!

Question 5G backup in France

That’s a question for my fellow French Geeks :)
Wihich plan/carrier are you using with your u5g Backup ? My understanding is that no carrier here support RedCap, so I’m just wondering what the experience is in France. Also which carrier are you using yours with ?

Thanks

No, it’s not EOL The EdgeRouter 4 is still an awesome piece of kit - UI killed it, OpenWRT doesn't support it well. I decided to do something about it.

Question U7 Pro vs XG vs U6 Pro (Micro Center Bundle)

• Upvotes

Hi All,

Beginning down the journey for my Unifi setup in our home. Found my runs I’ll be using for the APs. Had some AP questions.

Home: 1800 Sq Ft split level no basement, drywall/studs/HVAC

Decided on the Cloud Gateway Fiber but debating on APs. Initially I was going to just go U6 Pro APs but Micro Center is close by and does the bundles.

UCG Fiber $308
U7 Pro XG $220
U7 Pro $210
U6 Pro $176

The bundle includes the fiber and U7 pro for $477 ($40 off) making it less than the with the U6 pro/fiber.

Have the latest updates made the U7 pro more stable and friendly with IoT devices? I’ve seen less issues lately when searching.

Alternatively, any reason here to just go U6 pro (I imagine no?) or to spend the extra $50 to get the 7 XG?

Question USW Flex 2.5G 8 PoE – 83% RAM usage out of the box. Is this normal?

Post image
50 Upvotes

I recently installed a brand-new USW Flex 2.5G 8 PoE and noticed that its memory usage sits at around 83.5%, even with relatively few devices connected.

Some details:

- Model: USW Flex 2.5G 8 PoE
- Firmware: 2.1.8
- Memory usage: 83.5%
- No connectivity issues, unexpected reboots, or other problems so far.

For comparison, my older USW Flex (5-port model) runs at just 17.7% memory usage. I realize these are completely different hardware platforms, so the numbers aren’t directly comparable.

I’ve also seen other owners reporting almost identical memory usage on their Flex 2.5G 8 PoE switches.

I’m not suggesting that my switch is defective. Everything works perfectly fine. However, I’m curious whether Ubiquiti has simply equipped this model with relatively limited RAM, whether the firmware has a high baseline memory requirement, or whether the reported usage includes reclaimable cache.

I also have a second, factory-new USW Flex 2.5G 8 PoE that hasn’t been installed yet. I’ll connect it soon and compare the results.

I’d be interested to hear from other owners:

- What memory usage are you seeing?
- Which firmware version are you running?
- Has memory usage remained stable over time?
- Have you experienced any stability issues?

I’m particularly interested in the long-term implications for future firmware updates and whether there’s sufficient memory headroom.

Would be great to hear from Ubiquiti as well.

Super happy with how this turned out. I used some house renos as an opportunity to do a bunch of CAT6 runs throughout the house.

I since moved the Door Hub Mini over to plug into my ratgdo32 so I can control the garage door via Access. Still gotta wire up a Reader Flex so I can manage garage door codes...

Gear

  • Ubiquiti 12U slim case
  • 24 port patch panel
  • USW Pro Max 24 PoE
  • UDM Pro
  • Door hub mini, fiber ONT
  • Desktop computer (Plex + whatnot)
  • UNAS Pro
  • UPS 2U
  • 3x G6 Turret
  • 1x G6 Pro Entry
  • 1x PoE Chime

Question What's going on with this traffic spike?

• Upvotes

Single UDR7

A few times over the past few weeks, i have had these massive traffic spikes (Internet select not Wi-Fi), that exceed my internet speeds by far (1000/100).

The only thing being done at this time was watching Netflix with my better half and I on our devices.

No device or app, in the Unifi console shows this spike. The Dream 7 doesn't show this either.

I've spent too long, the past two times it's happened looking for what, and I haven't been able to find and match what exactly it was.

Anyone else had this? Is it a bug or something else?

Question Connected without internet

• Upvotes

Customer’s android phone shows ‘Connected without internet’ when trying to join guest wifi with hotspot portal. I’ve had issues in the past with invalid ssl certificates but this device is not even trying to connect before showing this message. There is internet and his other android phone was able to connect just fine, along with a test iPhone.

Anyone come across this issue or got any ideas for a fix? Normally I can bypass the security warning messages to get folks logged in if I need to, but we’re not even getting that far with this device. This is the second time I’ve seen this problem in two weeks.

Question Its been 2 weeks now since the AI detection update in Protect. What is everyone's experience?

The last major Protect update gave us a new update to AI facial detection that was supposed to learn as it went. So the last 2 weeks I have been assigning, reassigning, unassigning faces every day. So far, I feel like it doesnt learn at all or even seems to be getting worse ever day?

My experience with the facial detection has been terrible, to the point the system is completely unusable for any rules in Alarm Manager based on someones face. Half the detections every day are completely wrong, assigning a face to an incorrect person most of the time. Not even small things being incorrect, but women assigned to mens usernames and vise versa, someone of completely different nationality, skin tones, and facial structure. Things that aren't even remotely close.

What is all of your experiences with the system been the past 2 weeks? Have your detections gotten better, worse, or about the same?

Edit: Here is an example of typical behavior I have seen the past 2 weeks. It has gotten slightly better than this, but not by much over this timeframe:

How long is the "new learning training" supposed to be taking?

Misleading Title ISP Link flapping on UCG - Google Issue?

Hey folks,

I had an unusual issue today; 2.5Gbps uplink started flapping earlier today. Did the usual? turn off auto negotiate to Gbe, swapped ports on both ends, swapped cables - still reporting "multiple outages on ISP" and WAN.

Because multiple google cloud issues reported in the IT world, I added WAN SLA to ping quad9 or cloudflsre and suddenly all up.

The only issue would be the default internet verification service should be ping.ui.com which resolves to both cloudflare and google dns and target than keeping the link up, it brings it up and down (it's a single link with the default failover mode)

Any one else have this issue?

Question Constantly Multiple Internet Disconnections

Whenever I’m uploading large files or downloading.
UCG Fibre drops connections every time, regardless of PPPOE mode or DCHP mode. I have setup sla and changed pings to 8.8.8.8, 1.1.1.1, with and without smart queues, failover/load balancing/flow control. Remove all vpn setting. Added Vodafone router in front too and without(when it happened)

Blamed Vodafone UK, it’s there connection but their router constantly working.

Never had this issue a week ago since installation. Past 3 days constant off and on.

It’s definitely effecting my workload now. 😭 any help ?

Question Double check my setup plan for outdoor cameras + WiFi

I'm building a UniFi camera and Wifi network for my 1,900 sq ft 2 story home. I'm sick of crappy wifi cameras not catching recordings so I'm making the switch. I have a stucco home and pulling cables has been difficult. I don't have a technical background but am decently savvy for a novice. Can you sanity check my setup, answer a couple questions along the way, let me know if I am missing anything crucial? I have Sonic Fiber gigabit internet.

Exterior

2 G6 pro turrets, 1 G6 pro bullet, 1 G6 instant for the backyard

1 flex switch with 60W PoE adapter and flex utility for outdoor mounting. 15W from each PoE camera is supported by the 46W PoE budget.

I can run the cables for the 3 cameras on the exterior of the house since they'll be in an L configuration around 1 corner of the house. All cameras run into the flex switch and then I run 1 ethernet cable into the house to the gateway.

I'm crossing my fingers that they release another WiFi doorbell camera. I'd love to switch that over but I really don't want to undertake running ethernet to the camera. I'm not even sure it's possible, I don't want to add the indoor chime vs using the current one, and the flex switch doesn't have the power to support it.

Is it reasonable to move forward with this plan, or should I upgrade to the Flex 2.5G PoE with AC power?

Interior

1 ethernet cable follows the sonic fiber cable along the exterior of the house and into the same entry point.

Cloud Gateway Fiber vs Dream Machine Pro?? I'm torn here. I like how the CGF is compact and doesn't need a rack, but the storage is so much more expensive. 4TB NVMe is about $800, although I do see some refurbished on Best Buy for around $400. I can get a WD Purple 4TB for $190 or 8TB for $400. This is a huge difference. My gut says get the CGF and eat the cost of memory. I would prefer not to setup a rack.

For WiFi I'd like an AP on each floor. The fiber comes in on the 2nd floor and that's where the gateway will live. Can I just plug my Asus GT-AX11000 into the gateway and then run it in AP mode? Then I'll run an ethernet downstairs from the gateway for either 1 U7 pro or U7 lite AP.

Final thoughts/questions

  1. Did I miss anything?
  2. Is it fine to stick with the flex switch vs the flex 2.5G PoE?
  3. Does the cloud gateway fiber make sense over the dream machine pro?
  4. Does everything here have enough ports and power to support each other?
  5. Does a Network Video Recorder Instant replace anything here, or make sense in the configuration?

Question Unifi U6+ Solid white stacked and showing offline

Hello Guys, i have a Unifi U6+ AP that after a power outage, it stays solid white. It never comes up, it says its offline inside the dream machine pro.

I tried to reset it or SSH into it but i cannot. I am assuming that the AP it stucked to find the controller or something. If you experienced anything like that and you have a solution please let me know. Unfortunately if i cannot something about it that means the AP is dead.

Thank you for your support

Older 70s house, with only coax xfinity service. i got the 1gb plan and was struggling with service around the property. for about 2 years i was using 5 Google Nest Wifi Pros running mesh and it was enouhg to run IP cameras and smart devices but anything more than that it wasnt that great.

Overhauled the house with the UCG-F for when the area upgrades to fiber and ran CAT6 to every room and APs.

Hardest obsticle was getting wifi at the Barn for the sprinklers, well pump and lighting, followed by the getting service at the shop. Using the UBB and sneaking up underneath the tree branches for a Line of Sight, im getting about 820mbps. Rest of the outside parameter im getting anywhere from 320mbps to 640mbps.
