u/Arsimp33 13h ago

Mozart's rival

u/Silent_Moose_5691 13h ago

Omg it's omori™ from the hit game omori™!

He is easily one of the greatest game composers of all time

19

u/XBGamerX_20 13h ago

him and C418 take the title for me to be honest. don't ask me who's better, theyre just awesome composers.

2

u/JoyconDrift_69 13h ago

Which I find funny because I cannot at all put the names to most of C418's two most iconic soundtracks. Like I can't tell you which one is Mice on Venus or Wet Hands.

And yet they're some of the most iconic songs in video game history. Especially compared to nearly every modern song for that game (except Pigstep)

u/BusinessRecord502 12h ago

if only games you ever played are minecraft and undertale sure, toby and c418 are the best vgm composers

8

u/XBGamerX_20 12h ago

thats why I said for me, but I feel like people would agree since there's no way one has not heard megalovania or Sweden at least once on the internet

-1

u/BusinessRecord502 12h ago

theyre definetly really popular, but i wouldnt call them the best because series like persona nier ff etc have way better soundtracks than undertale or minecraft. i definetly recommend these series.

4

u/nabstablook11 10h ago

Do you have a specific game from each series as an example? I'd like to listen and compare

1

u/Azeoteric 10h ago

Nier Automata has a really good soundtrack. But I can’t really recall many of the tracks from it whereas 11 years later I can still recall most of the Undertale soundtracks. Personally I just really like Toby’s music.

1

u/Afraid_Platypus_8667 ‎ You're gonna have to try a little harder than THAT 12h ago

Agree, tbh he is one of my favorite artists for a reason as I just really love his music and some of the collabs he doe which shows his skills as a composer/ musician.

-14

u/Timlegoman 16h ago

I wouldn't say "The greatest" id say "a really good" or "one of the most intriguing"

13

u/EmotionReasonable887 16h ago

They said 'one of the greatest' not 'the greatest'

3

u/Desperate-Series-270 16h ago

“one of the greatest”

7

u/manzenik_23 15h ago

Why are ppl down voting you

"Wait... You don't think Toby's music is the greatest music of all time??? WELL YOURE WRONG!!"

5

u/Nickest_Nick 14h ago

Because they didn't say it's the greatest, they called him one of the greatests, which is a very different thing

-1

u/manzenik_23 14h ago

and then still downvoted the guy when he disagreed

ppl have different opinions you know?? i may think undertale is one of the greatest indie games of all time, but i may also not think toby fox is one of the greatest video game composers of all time

just because ppl dont fully glaze your goat (while still saying hes good!!!) doesnt mean you should downvote them is all im saying

i swear to god sometimes it feels as if ppl here either click before they think or are just children

8

u/Nickest_Nick 14h ago

the guy got downvoted not because they had a different opinion, but because they misread a comment and replied under that misreading

6

u/AntelopeMother6149 14h ago

I didn’t downvote the person you’re responding to but is the downvote button not a disagree with you button? If more people disagree than agree you’re gonna get downvoted

1

u/manzenik_23 14h ago

yes, but, again, its very minor distinction.

"one of the greatest" and "one of the most intriguring" are not that different

40

u/ShipEqual2321 13h ago

All jokes aside, not really.

3

u/TroubledSoul23 ‎ Say something nice! Have a nice day! 3h ago

I agree. He's really good, but he's as influential as Betthoven was in his era.

4

u/ShipEqual2321 3h ago

Yep. Our boy Beet oven didn’t really get that popular until after he died.

5

u/iyulien707 14h ago

well he has a broken hand which also limits him from playing so...

8

u/Guardian_Eatos67 pepsi dad 17h ago

Maybe Mozart since behaved like a dog and was a very silly guy back in the day

6

u/The_Void_Cat84 16h ago

mozart was a catboy

6

u/PolarRanger 12h ago

Depends. Who is the 21st century Napoleon?

6

u/PeridotFan64 11h ago

the president

1

u/LOLofLOL4 8h ago

I always knew Frank-Walter Steinmeier had conquest on his mind

10

u/bunchofmice 16h ago

Listen, I love Toby Fox and his music, but no. Not even close.

2

u/theskinpeeler This is still the best game ever made. 18h ago

I think Nitro Rad compared him to Mozart, but either works, really.

2

u/Expert-Bed-5016 16h ago

21st century god

2

u/0vertakeGames 16h ago

Yes yes yes

2

u/Philycheese18 12h ago

Deaf and gay?

3

u/Nekotsuki_Zen 12h ago

For video game music? "Yes". ONE of the best video game composers we have right now.

But one of the best composers overall? "No."

(My bias wants to say he's the best ever)

2

u/NanoblackReaper_ 5h ago

No, not even close.

2

u/dragon-gaming-55555 18h ago

yes, and he’s also the 21st century shakespeare

2

u/Boppydoppy143 18h ago

Toby Fox is the combination of Christopher Nolan and Beethoven ngl

4

u/mauveine_skies 15h ago

No. I love his music but it isn't even in contention for the objective best music of this generation.

9

u/Upset_Charity1848 12h ago

"objective best music" son

6

u/Countryballsinyoface ‎NO.1 PAPYRUS HATER 14h ago

Well objectively nothing is in that conversation

3

u/StarNullify 14h ago

What would you say is

1

u/mauveine_skies 14h ago

I don't know, I'm not musically inclined enough to think any of my tastes align with the objective best.

2

u/SoulEaterX_ 12h ago

Zun’s right there bro😭

1

u/Timlegoman 16h ago

Might be close but no

1

u/codewario ‎The power of [1997] shines within you 13h ago

I read this title as “Is Tony Fox the 21st Century Between”

1

u/RoseAgainRawr 12h ago

as a pole once said: "pytasz dzika czy sra w lesie?"

1

u/Tortue2006 ‎ This flair has been customised 11h ago

He isn’t deaf yet, so no

1

u/HkayakH 11h ago

Beethoven is the 17th century Toby Fox

1

u/CobaltCrusader123 7h ago

It might be Ludwig Göransson, Hans Zimmer, or Max Richter.

2

u/Decent-Plate-2876 7h ago

He's better than him,I think

1

u/Hazerudo ‎ You're gonna have to try a little harder than THIS. 7h ago

Come on

1

u/anonymouskraken_ 5h ago

no beethoven was a cat toby fox is a dog

1

u/krelmiser 5h ago

Hell naw

1

u/below_the_surface_ 4h ago

He used to be.

1

u/Traditional-Fix539 3h ago

it’s hard to tell right now. it depends on his legacy, mostly. how well was beethoven regarded when he was still alive?

1

u/brochacho_brooms 2h ago

He certainly is one of the greatest game composers of our era, but he can't be the 21st century Ludwig van Beethoven when Christopher Larkin and Carlos Viola exist.

1

u/Wonderworker_ ‎ Even when trapped, you still express yourself. 1h ago

Beethoven doesnt even come close

1

u/Dirt_Poor_Robin 55m ago

I say this all the time

1

u/Silly_Put_4410 41m ago

I was thinking more Christopher Larkin

0

u/Amphi-XYZ ‎ Wosh u flair 17h ago

It depends on your definition of "modern Beethoven". If it's just "the best music around" he's definitely in the top 3. If it's closer to "best classic-sounding music" I'd say that Lorien Testard is much closer to that title than anyone else

-1

u/long_jumpinglow 17h ago

Nah c418 is

0

u/AnAutisticIdiot42 ‎ Despite everything, it's still Rouxls Knight. 17h ago

No, Creo already is.

0

u/josigmaksks 15h ago

For me yes. But I get why not for a lot of people

0

u/BusinessRecord502 12h ago

toby is a good musician but definetly not one of the best. he is one of the best vgm composers. though hes not very high up on that list since shoji meguro keiichi okabe nobuo uematsu etc exist

0

u/Stufy_stuf 8h ago

We are in 20 sentury because it’s 2026 not 2126 idiot

3

u/gazzacl ‎ Ball Game 7h ago

put me in the screenshot

1

u/Slaughter_Bottle 5h ago

So what would you call the sentury between 0-100 then? The zeroeth century?

1

u/RedditSurfer29 ‎ ‎ *give us your balls. 5h ago

Fun fact, there IS actually no year 0 in the Gregorian calendar. This has caused multiple problems in history, because we couldn't decide whether the start of a century should be (x)x00 or (x)x01.

Another fun fact: The gregorian calendar isn't even accurate to Jesus's birth.

-1

u/Superlemonhazer 17h ago

"Hymn" alone beats pretty much any other song in circulation

-5

u/FabrizioJD 17h ago

No because he makes games not music.

0

u/Ravenclaw_14 ‎ POWER OF BONETROUSLED BOIS 49m ago

Maybe Mozart, my dude Mozart was a silly adhd boy, he and Toby would def get along and would more than likely want to collab with each other on a really fast-paced piano and synth piece guaranteed
