Discussion Fun fact: according to Bratty, monsterkind were imprisoned for milennia (thousands of years).

Post image

I've seen people suggest that this statement is unreliable since Bratty could just be exagerating. However, there's nothing in the game that really contradicts it. And considering the ancient-like depiction of humanity in the game's intro, I'd say that thousands of years isn't an inaccurate estimate.

I would not take anything bratty says as a fact. But it's probably true

Makes you really wonder how old Asgore and Toriel really are.

the strangest part about undertale's timeline is that the dogi are supposed to be more than a hundred years old

they participated in the '98 noze nuzzling competition, where they came up second behind toriel and asgore, who would not have been participating if they were already divorced. meaning it was in 1998, before chara fell in 201x. meanwhile, the game takes place many years after, evidenced by plastic being described as a rarity, the human city in the background looking more futuristic than any current one, as well as papyrus and undyne's undernet nicknames, which make it apparent that undertale could not have taken place before the 2090's

Something to remember is that A) It's not actually specified the Dogi lost the same nose nuzzle competition Asgore won. This wasn't just a one-off event, so if Toriel and Asgore were their only competition for first place, they would've logically won another one by now. The judge in the anniversary stream has been doing it for 15 years, which perfectly lines up with a 2098 contest.

And B) The Dreemurrs left most of their stuff behind in the Ruins. Based on precedent, if they won in 1998, that trophy would be in Toriel's possession in the Ruins, not Asgore's. Unless this was literally the only thing they thought was worth taking, Asgore's '98 trophy would have to be won post-201X, meaning not with Toriel. Anniversary stream also establishes this isn't just a couple thing, Frisk and MK barely know each other but get first place, so there's nothing stopping Asgore from entering with Rudy and demolishing everyone.

So in other words, Dogi aren't necessarily 100+, Asgore could simply be so good he doesn't need Toriel to win

ehhh. i thought it was logical that since gerson established toriel and asgore used to nuzzle all the time, and since asgore keeps a trophy from the aforementioned event, that they would have to be the one to participate in it. of course, asgore is the king and could get anyone to nuzzle with him, but this is probably getting into the weeds

Ashore ‘practiced’ nose nuzzling all the time with Toriel, apparently. If a competition was held post divorce, he could probably carry even the worst nuzzler in the Underground to victory

It’s been a while since I played undertale but is there any proof that Asgore was even there during the war? Could be like his father or something

Don't know why they'd introduce the whole "Boss Monsters don't age" thing if it wasn't to suggest that the monster in the intro that looks like Asgore is actually Asgore.

Gerson directly says Asgore named the kingdom of monsters. He didn't inherit his throne, he founded it.

So either he was already king during the war, or the kingdom didn't exist, period, during the war. The latter contradicting the clear king we see on-screen in the story.

He SEEMS to be shown during the intro depicting the conflict between humans and monsters.

However it could be revealed later on that it wasn't Asgore being represented there, but let's say; his father and previous King. And then Asgore became King after the monsters were sealed.

wasn't it's accepted by community that approximate time is 2000 years since war?

5

I don't think the community actually talks about this.

as an UT veteran, I never heard of this info among the community ever

All I've seen is that it's been 100+ years rather than 2000

The big thing is that Gerson was alive during the war so he would have to have lived for thousands of years.

I mean, he very likely did.

In the Undertale 10th anniversary livestream he says that his buddies from the war days are long gone.

I think she is exaggerating but only one digit. It was certainly centuries.

A single thousand maybe, but 2000 sounds too much. I doubt they would have even remembered what surface even is, by that long. Culture changes too much.

Not if your king and queen are immortal

A king/queen doesn’t shape the culture by themselves
