UON JMP year 4
Hey! I just recently got my location for year 4 and I ended up getting Gosford while my friends all got Newcastle. Im a Sydney sider so Gosford was preferred since I am close to my family and high school friends however I would have none of my close uni friends. I'm in a dilemma and was wondering if I could get any advice on which clinical school is better esp since I have more hospital hours etc. I would also be moving up so It would be a dorm situation at newcastle whereas finding an apartment at Gosford. How important is having a support network during my clinical years? Would it be hard to manage without having anyone to rely on at uni? Pls any advice is helpful.

Hi! I’ll be at Gosford for year 4 as well. Little bias as I’ve been there for years 1-3 but Gosford clincial campus is good because it’s all one building, is literally 3 steps away from the hospital doors, and is much quieter than newy campus with only a few degrees there.
There isn’t an on campus library anymore, so usually to study people go home, do it in free rooms on the clinical campus or go a 10 minute drive to ourimbah to the student space which has heaps of study rooms.
Don’t worry about making friends as there’s only a handful each year at Gosford so everyone ends up knowing eachother and becoming v close!
As for the hospital itself, it’s great being a bigger yet not BIG hospital like JHH. So same vibe as the clinical school, you’ll end up knowing everyone.
Very regularly there’s free food (pizza, subway, then pantry items) as well as always having free coffee and fruit!!

Not sure about now but few years back the cohort for each year (40s?) isn’t that big so you get very close to the year especially your PBL group. Also close to exams everyone’s just at clinical building anyway so you see everyone and get very close.
Did Gosford for both clinical years despite most of my friends choosing Newcastle as it is such a supportive clinical site, it will be alright!

I haven’t personally been to Gosford but I’ve heard great things about the hospital and resources there, I think you got a great pick. You will still be only an hour away from your friends for weekend study etc, and being closer to your family will be just as important. You will also hopefully build a bit of a network in Gosford.
I do feel this tho, my best friend is going rural next year while I’m in Newcastle, and we’re both very sad about it.
