Everyone is on their phone all the time
I'm having such a hard time making friends here because literally anyone else I've seen alone has their face glued to their phone. I'm not saying I've never done that, but I do make an effort to stay off of it most of the time I'm outside and definitely while I'm trying to make friends. My whole life I have always been the one who has had to approach others to start an interaction and I wish someone else would approach me for once. I'm super extroverted and have a pretty bubbly and welcoming personality and make friends easily once I'm actually talking to someone so I know that I'm not the problem here. Can't people just stay off their phone for like 5 minutes and make eye contact and exchange smiles with the people around them????

I find it so distracting when in a lecture class and people have their laptops out just to be texting or snapping photos with their laptop... I have the same issue tho Ive only been here for a month. Im scared im to busy for a friend but I wish I had one😭😭 if anyone wants to get a coffee some time hmu

As a GE, the amount of people on their phone or laptops are outrageous in class. Phone may not make as much of the noise like those students who banging the keyboards on iMessages... It's definitely a distraction for them and everyone else nearby.
I hope y'all are the good students out there, taking notes and learning stuff from each lecture.

Keep going, do not give in to it! Eventually someone is going to approach you who has noticed you are not always on your phone and they are going to be curious about you. Keep your eyes open for others who are engaged in something besides phone scrolling!

I know what you mean!! I try not to be on my phone, especially if I’m walking. From what I’ve heard from a lot of people, when they’re alone, they pretend to go on their phone, because they are scared of social interaction. Maybe that is why? Or maybe they are checking emails or just scrolling. Who knows lol

Are you in Art History Research Methods? You remind me of a classmate (in the best possible way)

For this reason I ask everyone to put their devices away *before* entering class. Folks are now chatting a bit (or staring off into space, which is also good for you).

It’s super sad to see in lectures, some can’t go 15 minutes without looking at it. I find it very distracting. And thats not even to mention… the 1 AirPod in ear during lectures/discussion sections… it’s a tragedy.
