Drainage Gallery Systems are special underground tunnels made to remove groundwater to prevent landslides. Systems of the 6X series are the latest, built in places where a sudden need for ground stabilisation appeared.

Kurchatov is a town located in eastern Kazakhstan, in the infamous Semipalatinsk Polygon, which was the main USSR nuclear weapons testing area. The town is named after the Soviet nuclear physicist Igor Kurchatov, the "father of the Russian atomic bomb".
Today, large parts of the town are abandoned, while other parts are still inhabited. Here are a few pics of the abandoned parts taken in July 2026.
Surely exploring during a cold, windy and rainy night is something else

Hidden away in a small village, this place is unfortunately completely empty… but it still has a stunning staircase and some rooms featuring incredible paintings! 🏚️🎨

Didn’t take enough pics. The complex is pretty big and we found a few potential entrances. Really wanna wander the tunnels.
