Discussion Base Station 2.0s are restocked and available RIGHT NOW in the US. These are half the price that HTC sells them for, likely the cheapest we will ever be able to get brand new Base Stations for the foreseeable future. Grab em while you can!

Already bought 2 this morning as backup for my current ones. Got em since 2021 and have the feeling they wont last forever lol

Naturally, this happens right after I buy a full price left controller

Same lol. They've been in stock a while and I was waiting to see if they were going to clearance them out but caved and bought one a week ago thinking they never would.

Thanks for the heads up. Both controllers available in Europe, got those and 2 base stations and a tether. I don't really use my Index any more but use the controllers and base stations for the MeganeX SL8K so the tether isn't really necessary, but better to get one now while I still can.

Thanks, just bought 2 base stations. These are also suddenly available in the EU.
Already bought back-up controllers 6 months ago - and a back-up Index hmd when Frame was announced last year, lol
Nope, if I can help it, not going to give up the Index yet - there is no other hmd on the market that ticks more boxed when it comes to sound, refresh rate, controller tracking precision, and controller tracking volume. And there are no streaming image quality reductions.
Also res is fine - with recent very demanding games (like Gunman Contracts and Paleo Dive) and mods (like Doom 2016 and Titanfall 2), I cannot super-sample much to get solid framerates, I'll need a 5090 or better, lol, just to get 144 fps with the Index in those games - but I do not mind 80 Hz sometimes even with motion smooting these days. To me, not having to force a very high res to feed high-res panels is no issue to me - using an RTX 3090 (similar to 4070 Ti or 5070).

Oh yeah, the refresh rate is such a big pro for the Index. I'm gonna be getting a BSB2 soon because I think I'll personally value the oled more, but I imagine I'll probably miss that refresh rate a bit

I just bought the hmd with this clearance. I already have the index controllers and base stations from my og vive. Kinda late to the party but hope its worth the price, i only have a vive as a reference and i havent used it in years since its so antiquated

u/Runesr2 15h ago
Congrats - then you're in for a treat, og Vive can still be great very dark games, but Index will be a massive upgrade in close to every way. If you haven't completed Alyx, this will be a game changer, especially with the Index.

I'm hoping. I started playing alyx when it came out cause i bought the index controllers and got it for free, but my old pc wasn't the greatest, I've since upgraded everything.

Thanks man! I didnβt get it since I still have my original vive lighthouses as backup but i did get an extra left controller and tether cable. Winning!

Thinking to buy some spare. Anything else that might break?

u/AspriringLewdArtist 2d ago
I'd probably buy a spare tether if I were still using an Index HMD. I'm just buying the base stations to use with BSB2 tho

Need the right controller but I think we're out of luck. I purchased an extra base station though. Just in case. I'm going to keep my current index controllers and long as possible and use FBT (Vive trackers,Tundra trackers) that those base stations. At least until Fluxpose is in full production mode.

I have 3 base stations right now. I wonder how much better tracking would actually improve with 4?

From what I heard, going from 2 to 3 is a much bigger leap than 3 to 4

I can tell you this. Going from 2 to 1 sucks. I am so glad I got an order in.

Debating if I want one, just need to find where buy valve index controllers so I can do the mod sync them to my psvr2
Because honestly just want finger tracking

Fuck, I just bought one from htc 3 days ago.

u/AspriringLewdArtist 2d ago
I'd honestly try and return it, for half price it's worth it

I thought about it, but given that i dont even have an eta on my frame reservation i will probably just eat the cost and order 2 more from steam to hold me over until 2032 when my slot for the frame comes up.

Just got 1 as spare here in the UK. These went out of stock earlier this year in our territory so it was great to see a final drop, and discounted too π

Really want to update my vive, have given it much love since I got it secondhand 7 years ago. One of my base stations crapped out, so good to see I can get another.
Thinking about also grabbing an index but can anyone tell me how the resolution holds up? Iβm afraid it will look severely outdated compared to the quest 3 that Iβve tried from a friend. Considering a BSB2, since I also already bought the knuckles controllers some time ago. Anyone got advice for what HMD i should upgrade to?
1
u/AspriringLewdArtist 2d ago
I'm personally upgrading to a BSB2, that's what I'd go for if I were you. Much more modern HMD than the Index. Oled, pancake lenses, higher res

Got myself a left controller. Now I have 1 left valve controller, and 2 vive wands xD. Welp, sucks the right controllers sold out but I guess I get to see what the new controller is like.

How often do these need replacement? I recently got a used Index but it was BARELY used. He said he used it for maybe a total of 2 hours if that and it really did look like it was never used. How long can I expect it to last? Should I grab one of these for a backup? I only paid $130 for the whole thing so hard to spend $120 on this one part.

u/AspriringLewdArtist 2d ago
It's not 100% consistent, but they'll usually last around 4-5 years I'd say. Since yours are basically new you probably don't need to feel pressured to stock up on backups. That's an AMAZING price on a full Index kit btw, good for you

I have about 500 hrs and needed a base station (I also had them running while outta vr too.

Awesome, just bought a pair. I have one that's been blinking red but the other is still okay for now, but it's also probably not long for this world either.
I'm looking for a way to repair the old one (laser replacement) but I don't know what laser diode it needs, or how you'd take it apart without damaging the front.

How can you tell they are base station 2.0s and not 1.0s?? The picture when you click buy now looks like a 1.0 base station
2
u/AspriringLewdArtist 13h ago
Because Valve has never sold Base Station 1.0s. Only HTC sold those with the original Vive. These are even called "Valve Index Base Stations", which means 2.0s
