Help Looking for contractor recommendations for popcorn ceiling removal and pot light installation.
Just recently we've been looking to remove our popcorn ceiling (house built in 1998) so no asbestos, and install pot lights.
For pot lights alone we've gotten quotes at $50 each pot light and $75.
What are your recommendations with true customer experience and not just google reviews?

I'd ask every contractor for a written scope that covers popcorn removal method, drywall repair, texture/paint match, and who handles the pot light wiring. Confirm WSIB and liability insurance, and ask for two or three recent Vaughan references you can actually call. Pot lights in insulated ceilings need IC-rated housings, and the electrical work should have an ESA permit. A clear written scope with those items usually separates solid crews from the vague quotes.

For potlights just make sure you ask for ESA permit prior to work being done, this way it is inspected and your covered.
As an electrical contractor, we have drywall company that we use for patches and in some cases with popcorn removal we refer them to client.
Let me know if you need any numbers.

I did it myself in February after getting quotes. For any 1000 sqf most places were charging between $5.5 to $7 per sqf. That was scraping, 2 skim coats and paint. I used Patch Dudes videos to help with DIY, they had really good tutorial videos. It's a messy job (especially the sanding) so just verify from whoever you hire what they're doing to mitigate the mess because that dust WILL go everywhere. Consider duct cleaning after job is completed and definitely change HVAC filter.

Used Jbd drywall and taping and was happy with the work and his pricing was very reasonable compared to others I got for popcorn removal. https://www.homestars.com/profile/2947801-jbd-drywall-taping/reviews
