Note From r/VictoriaBC Mods | Election Season 2026 is Upon Us!

Hello everyone, happy double election season 2026!

With both municipal & provincial elections approaching in under a month, this sub will be (and already is) inundated with political content. Please review the following regarding political content in the sub during election season.

  • Be civil & decent to each other, even when in disagreement. Political season is a great time to practice the virtue of disagreeing without being disagreeable. In other words, to respond to an argument rather than attacking someone's character. We will remove content and give out bans when appropriate to keep the discussion civil and constructive.
  • Political posts should be linked to an official, legitimate news outlet or publication. Please avoid self-made political posts, social-media screenshots, rants/raves, etc. There is no lack of political news content, and we'd like to keep discussion based around legitimate coverage to help mitigate the spread of misinformation, and to minimize redundancy.
  • Mind the municipal & provincial distinction re: relevancy to Victoria. We encourage folks to post provincial political content over at r/BritishColumbia and to focus on municipal issues here at r/VictoriaBC. As local & provincial politics do overlap, some provincial content may be appropriate this sub, but in general please keep political content focused on Victoria & region.
  • Posts that break the 'No Editorialized Headlines' rule will be removed regardless of the content or engagement prior to removal. When posting an article, the post title should match the article's headline exactly. Any editorialization, whether intentional or not, will result in the removal of that post.
  • Help us out by reporting rule-breaking content. If you think a post or comment breaks the rules, please report it so we can review the content. Keeping in mind the next rule...
  • Please don't abuse the report function. Disagreement is not a reportable offence - please utilize the downvote button if you disagree with a post or comment. Misusing the report feature breaks Reddit-wide rules, and we report all users who abuse the report function which can lead to site-wide restrictions to one's Reddit account. Thank you for not misusing the report function, we appreciate it.
  • Avoid low-effort posts & comments. We've heard it all before. Save those low-effort one liners for Thanksgiving dinner or Twitter. We'll remove low-effort content in our efforts to maintain civil discourse.
  • No AI-generated content. Any post or comment suspected of being generated by AI will be removed.

The sub's safety & crowd-control features have also been turned up to help filter out content from bots, newer accounts, trolls, brigaders, etc. If you have content removed that you think shouldn't have been, please message the mods and we will review it when we can.

Thanks everyone!

Releasing balloons at the beach is not okay

Yesterday I watched a group of about 20 people at albert head lagoon get confronted for releasing balloons for a "memorial service". They claimed they were biodegradable so it was fine, and got angry and aggressive with the person who confronted them.

This is still littering. Biodegradable doesn't mean anything when a bird, fish, or sea mammal can easily eat that balloon by accident, choke on it, and die. There is also a protected bird sanctuary less then 5km away on the other side of the beach.

They got extremely aggressive with someone that confronted them. With the men in the group shouting threats, getting in their faces, shoving them, and calling them a lot of nasty words like "Re****ed liberal"

If you were in that group, you should be ashamed. Your behavuour was disgusting and when confronted with littering at the beach you chose to be hostile and use threats of violence to try and get your way.

Lastly, this is VICTORIA. Using liberal as an insult makes you look really really stupid. Conservative bigotry has no place here and your loud mouth spouting off made me go out and vote NDP.

Pokémon drops at Costco are like watching a Soviet breadline.

It’s 8 am and I’m waiting for the store to open for shopping and it’s a huge line of dead eyed cardboard hunter-scalpers waiting for their turn to buy tulip- I mean cardboard. Not to yuck anyone’s yum but this can’t end well for anyone but the Pokémon company.

Good morning, Victorians!
It’s been a million years since I last took a BC Transit bus! I still have these bus tickets lying around. Does anyone know if BC Transit still accepts them?

Thank you in advance and hope everyone has a great and beautiful Saturday!!!!😃

PSA: KD soda available at the Uptown Walmart

Post image
• Upvotes

If you, like me, are interested in what abomination KD has released upon the world you can get it at the Uptown Walmart by the dairy section. This is not a good pop, and I would not recommend trying it. It tastes like cream soda and the smell of powdered cheese. But, I had to try it for my friends and maybe you also want to try it.

Yep. It’s just as good as when I first went this summer.

First time did their pasta tasting. This time we did the à la carte options.

  1. Pesce in saor
  2. Tigelle
  3. Lingua di manzo
  4. Agnolotti
  5. Casunziei

I am so, so, so sorry for all the smoke coming out of my truck. It broke down earlier and I managed to get him going just enough to limp home. Im so sorry for all the smoke I made and I actually just sobbed on the whole way home because of how bad it is. Please forgive me :(

Politics BC Begins Voting As Conservatives Have Yet To Reveal A Costed Platform

Thumbnail
ctvnews.ca
204 Upvotes

Voting has already begun in BC without the release of the Conservatives costed platform which Doerkson says is "imminent". The interim leader says he's seen the platform but wants to make sure they aren't going to promise anything they can't make happen and want the numbers to be right and doesn't want to overpromise such as David Eby's $1000 grocery rebate.

Eby and Lowan released their costed platforms already on what to spend and how to reduce the deficit.

Doerkson pledged to cut income taxes by $1000 for most working BC Residents as Eby said their promises would cost up to 5 billion and have not explained how they would pay for it but says the answer is obvious that they would pay for it with cutting services that every family relies on

Opinion How is Hanks* not more packed?

I just had dinner at Hanks* A Restaurant for the second time, and I don't get how it's not more popular?

Last time we went, we way over-ordered, had a little bit of everything and it was all AMAZING! One of the best meals I've had in Victoria in almost 7 years of living here. The food is unapologetically rich, but it's excellent! I also feel like for the portions and the quality, the price is pretty good.

The first time we went, it was the day before brewery and the beast so we kinda chalked it up as just an off night, and while it was a bit busier tonight, I thought for sure it would be impossible to get a last minute table, but the place was still half empty or more the whole time we were there.

TL;DR awesome food, cool atmosphere and music, friendly staff, menu changes frequently but it seems like there are some solid staples. Why is this not more popular? I feel like it should have been hard to get a last minute reservation on a Friday night?
