News V/Line free Monday and Tuesday next week

https://www.vline.com.au/News-Alerts/News-Articles/2026/July/Free-travel

Travel will be free for V/Line passengers on Monday 13 July and Tuesday 14 July, following the disruption caused by the Telstra outage.

Passengers will not need to tap on with their myki or use contactless payment on these days.

Passengers with connecting onward travel beyond the V/Line network – such as on a Metropolitan train, tram or bus – will need to use a Free Travel Voucher as proof of travel on the V/Line network.

Conductors on board trains will carry vouchers and they will also be available at the ticket offices at some staffed stations and at Southern Cross Station.

We don't want free travel days. We want a train service we can rely on. On the Geelong line we had almost 5 days of outages in the last two weeks (Telstra was just the icing on the cake pretty much). I'd quite happily pay full price if it meant the train would turn up when it was meant to.

I think if you travelled and incurred costs you may still be eligible for separate compensation: https://www.vline.com.au/About-V-Line/Additional-pages/Compensation. But you’d think the travel should be free on Wednesday and Thursday since those were the days impacted

So people who use the train on Wed and/or Thu each week due to their in-office days, part-time work or uni timetable and were directly impacted by the Telstra outage don't necessarily get any free travel. Typical.

I feel you! It is pathetic from the state government. Vline knows they can do anything they want. Untouchable. Look at the premier. She's saying issue and not asking vline about processes like a plan B if it goes bad. Just mon-tues free. How is that management when the state government gave the contract? All I see is Telstra hate

What more could've Vline done? Telstra is the only network with the regional coverage that Vline needs.

The only other option is satellite which is either: 1. Far too high lantancy for train communication. 2. Starlink, which is owned by a trillionaire man-child that can cut off access when he feels like it (like he has already done in several countries)

ARTC and NSW regional rains has the same issue, but somehow it's all Jacinta's fault 😂

What a joke.

$140 hotel room 10 month old baby Wife left at home to be the sole carer

Cost of myki over 2 days. $23

Cost of vline (state government funding here and basically controlled by Allen) priceless!!
