Current Student Question CS 2223 with Engling?
I'm taking next term (which i guess is in a couple days). A friend of mine who took it last year said it was pretty light and wasn't a hard class, but I'd like some other opinions on it. I took OS with Shue last term, so I think I'd be able to handle studying for Algorithms after all the cramming I did for OS. I'm also overloading with 3043, and am wondering if it'll be possible studying for both while still having a social life.

Algorithms with Engling is great! 3043 sucked for me and was a lot of work, so I would be careful and look into your professor ahead of time.

Glad to know! I’ve taken another class with the professor for 3043 and I liked it a lot, so I’m not that worried abt it

As others have mentioned, Professor Engling is fantastic and I would highly recommend taking his algorithms class!
I will say, this course is not light (not heavy either though) because it reallys trains you about critical thinking. Expect roughly 10 hours/week.
With this course specifically, you basically are looking to understand how to bridge the logic of so many different mathematical algorithms to code. The lectures primarily teach you the logic but not the coding itself so you have to do some self-teaching on the weekly hw assignments, but this is with any Algorithms class. Engling does a nice job with modeling them by bringing in stuffed toys to do visual demos of them in-class though!
There also are daily quizzes with practice quizzes on Canvas, so I recommend doing them both immediately after lecture while the content is still fresh. Exams are also take-home too which is nice, and he is very lenient with grading - also offers many ways to get extra credit!
