Experimental version of some of the baseball straps I’ve been making. I tried folding the back leather over the front for a different look. Also got some new stitching irons that helped with the consistency of my stitching. Let me know what you think about this prototype! I think it turned out not half bad!

Just grabbed the Black SEIKO Metronome Watch SMW006A before this performance and it looks absolutely stunning and is classy enough to fit with a tux while having utility, lol. Well I definitely like it enough I’ll have to pull it out more for performances and for around $250 it’s a great addition to my collection while being affordable.

I took a picture [SOTC] 3 Watches in 8 Years

Post image

I got into the hobby after I randomly walked into a boutique without much knowledge or intention of purchasing a watch. The sales associate let me try on a few and I remember the IWC Mark 18 Heritage felt like it belonged on my wrist. I fell into a research rabbit hole and after a year of window shopping, I pulled the trigger on my first watch! Since then I've bought 2 more watches and I think my collection is complete.

IWC Mark XVIII Tribute to Mark XI - The first watch that I purchased 8 years ago. I really like the understated look and it's baton style hour hand. I wore this pretty much every day until I got my second watch.

Nomos Ahoi 38 Sand - I like the minimalist look of bauhaus style watches, so I was naturally drawn to Nomos. After a few wears, the original strap felt and looked slightly off. It took me a while but I found the right strap that felt balanced.

Rolex Explorer 39 mk1 - I've tried on a lot of different Rolex models, but none of them looked right on me except the Explorer 1. The 36mm was too small and the 40mm was a hair too large. I tried the 39mm mark 2 and it was the perfect fit! The matted dial was also a bonus. I ended up purchasing a mark 1 on the grey market, because I preferred the white gold numerals over extra lume.

After the purchase of my Explorer, I feel like my watch collection is complete. If I were to get a new watch, I would want an A Lange or Patek. I don't make nearly enough to comfortably afford that, but I am more than happy with my 3 watch set!

Discussion New to watches. Is this how the addiction starts?

Post image
36 Upvotes

I’m brand new to the watch world and recently picked up my first “real” watch, a Glycine, which I love!

Then this weekend I saw this Casio and picked it up on a total whim. Nothing expensive (VERY inexpensive) or fancy or unique, but I liked the look of it. 😊 I figured it would be a decent starter everyday watch that I don’t have to worry about scratching up.

So is this how the watch addiction starts? You buy a watch you really like, then immediately start finding reasons to buy another one? 😂

For those of you who’ve been collecting a while, what’s your favorite inexpensive everyday watch? Something that punches above its price but you don’t think twice about banging around?

Review [Tissot] at $350 it’s a Joke but at $130 it’s undeniable

Hear me out: Tissot discontinued this range due to poor sale. They couldn’t price it lower than the quartz because it’s the same case everything; dimensions and finishing. Grey market dealers like Joma, Ashford, and TJ Maxx (?) have gobbled up all the inventory. At less than $150 you’re getting an extremely well finished (as good as ANY PRX) digital watch with a sapphire crystal, and 100m WR. This is an upgrade over majority of your Casios Timex digital watches. Movement isn’t a slouch either! Great back light, lots of features, and a 4 year battery life. You also get access to a ton of rubber/FKM straps. Pictured here is the 35mm variant on my 7” wrist

Discussion [Daily vs Weekend] who wears what when?

Post image
277 Upvotes

I see a lot of references to “weekend” watches. If that’s a thing for you, I’m curious about how you approach it.

These days I wear the GS SBGX261 to work most days and enjoy wearing the 114270 Explorer on the weekends. The Explorer is my all-time favorite watch, but I work in a position and setting where the potential optics and blowback of wearing a Rolex just aren’t worth it. I also really like the Grand Seiko on its own merits.

Review [Review] Checked out the Nomos Worldtimers

Had the chance to try on the Nomos Worldtimers today. I quite like the Dark and Handelsblatt versions but at $6k after taxes, seem a bit too pricey for me.

I bought the silver version a few months ago but returned it as I just couldn’t read the time in the bright lights of the office/outside. My OCD also couldn’t handle the worldtimer function being off when DST kicked in.

Also checked out the rest of the collection - my partner really liked the yellow Club. Might be her next watch - decent value at $2100 for the sapphire glass back version.

The prices have gone up since I bought mine - but the build quality is still a notch above most of the microbrands I encountered at WindUp this weekend.

The boutique mentioned that the wait times were about 6-8 months. I might sit it out for the moment as I’m taking a break from buying watches and trying to enjoy my collection.

Discussion [It’s time for a new watch]

Post image
76 Upvotes

I want a clean, white or silver dial watch.

I’ve narrowed it down to these 3.

Out of these 3, which one would you chose and why?

Grand Seiko (SBGY011): I love a polished 44GS style case, and I’m a big fan of spring drive.

Longines (40mm Ultra-Chron): I really like the 60s retro style and the under appreciated high beat movement of the Ultra-Chron.

IWC Portofino 40mm. It’s such a classic design. I saw one in person and was like, “ok, I see the appeal.” Timeless.

I’m not swayed one way or another by the fact that I already own certain brands, but I understand that brand diversity matters to some people.

Thanks, in advance, for sharing your thoughts.

I took a picture [Seiko] Picked up my first watch, how’d I do?

Post image

I’ve been avoiding getting into watches for a long time, until recently I fell into a rabbit hole. Started researching online and came across this limited edition 145th anniversary Seiko and instantly fell in love. Although it wasn’t available just yet I kept looking around to see what was out there as I decided on my first watch. I was also skeptical about buying my first watch online without ever seeing them in person so I decided to stop by a jewelry store to just look around and try some on (no intention of buying). Funnily enough, when I arrived they ended up having the exact watch I was interested in. The salesman said it came in the day prior, and was likely going to be gone within the week. Needless to say I walked out with it and am very excited to start my collection!

Discussion France riots : hublot safe

Hublot. So safe, nobody steals it.

Discussion Gift watch for 30 year employee turning 50

I have a guy who has worked for me forever, I wanted to get him a knife, but I do see him wearing watches periodically when he's out, nothing crazy.

I'm looking to spend about $1,000, preferably something low maintenance like a solar/GPS so it keeps time when it's not being used.

Considering Citizen Eco-Drive or a Seiko Astron, my jeweler that I often buys from carries both.

Any suggestions?

Sure it’s not the best specs, but I think this 37 mm collab is just the coolest color dial out there. So cool. Got it right at the drop online and it fits the wrist so well. It feels at home in the OR too which doesn’t hurt

Taking a stroll around the lake on a beautiful fall day, surrounded by autumn colors. I’m rocking my Tetra Salvia, which was a gift from my wife. Perfectly sized for her to steal and wear as well! Absolutely love the movement finishing and the strap feels top notch. This is my first foray into German watches, and I definitely want to explore more of the independent scene there.

I took a picture Zenith Chronomaster Sport

Post image

Today, I got to take a look at the Zenith Chronomaster Sport, and as someone who has regularly handled Daytonas, I’m incredibly impressed. I love that it has a five-hertz alarm, primer removal, a main chronograph hand that lets you track 1/10 of a second, and a lot of different models and designs to choose from, from classical to more modern. My favorite feature is the brand-new clasp introduced at Watches and Wonders. Rolex limits the glide lock to dive watches and watches with the Oyster Flex bracelet; on other sport watches, they only offer the Easy Link, which provides a 5 mm extension. Zenith designs and engineers the clasp so that it is easily removable and offers on-the-fly micro-adjustment without having to remove the bracelet, which makes it much easier to use on hot summer days or when it cools down suddenly. This, combined with the fact that Zenith actually helped produce some of the movements for iconic de toners, makes these an incredibly compelling and underrated option for people who want a premium chronograph.

I took a picture [Custom] I built my first watch. Explorer II / Black Bay One meets Explorer I / Ranger was my idea.

It doesn’t have a second hand because I broke it. I ordered a new one, so I’ll have to take it back apart and fix that.

It’s a brushed finish Tokeilab EXP 38 v2 case and bracelet set, Tokeilab hands, Amazon dial, and a regulated Seiko NH35 movement.

I first got into watches about 6 months ago. I’ve always enjoyed mechanical things (namely cars), so I figured building watches would be a cheaper way to scratch both itches. It was fun to brainstorm, pick out all the parts and put together something unique. I’ll definitely be building more.

I took a picture Casio G-Shock Full Sapphire

Today, I got to try the new Casio G-Shock with a full sapphire case, and honestly, it’s amazing. For all of my personal Casios, including G-Shocks, vintage series watches, Edifice automatics, and Duros, they’re all inexpensive, incredibly durable, and at least in some way, shape, or form, quirky. For this latest edition, it’s a real break from their traditional pieces and a true juxtaposition with their usual affordability. Even so, it’s one of the most impressive watches I’ve ever handled, with an amazing gold motif on the actual dial, and it really shows what happens when the designers at Casio let their hair down and experiment with new and interesting materials.

As a 17 year old, I am happy to say I have completed my first 6 watch collection, over the period of two years I have learned so much about watches, and understood how useful they are even besides telling the time, they are good conversation starters, good items to remember people with, I am genuinely very happy and hope I'll expand it over the next few years, here are the names of the watches shown above

1.Zenith Autosport 28,800 (Automatic)

2.Tissot PR50 Roman numerals (Quartz)

  1. Vintage Accurist (Manual Wind)

  2. Seiko Sports 5 (Blackout)

5.Moonswatch Saturn 🪐

6.Timex HarbourSide Coast

Even tho I think I won't buy another watch for a good half a year, I think I will and I would like to know what would you suggest, thank you 😊

My wife and I got married earlier this May, and on our trip to Switzerland we simply had to do the thing. I already knew I wanted the Tank Must, so that's what I wanted to try. She was a bit unsure—she eyed the Panthere Small, but eventually settled on the Medium.

We're 26/27, and this is our first ever luxury watch purchase, and we're over the moon. I bought hers, and she mine. Finally got a proper Tank to round out my collection.

Discussion Experience with titanium watches?

Hi guys,

After a long hiatus from buying any more timepieces, I have decided to take the plunge again, and was thinking of getting a titanium watch. While I will try some on, and have a broad list of pieces I’d like, I’d just like to ask the community what the experience has been with titanium watches?

Is the weight reduction that noticeable? Does the watch pick up less scratches over time? Is it significantly more comfortable to wear daily?

Thanks in advance!

I took a picture Artisans de Geneve

Today, I had the opportunity to take a look at some of the watches modified by Artisans de Geneve, and even though I wasn’t expecting to like their designs or modifications, I found many of them pretty compelling. Rolex, for the majority of its watches, is an incredibly conservative brand, refining traditional designs in a modern light. Sometimes, there are pops of exuberance, such as with their Day-Date with the Puzzle dial, but for the most part, their designs are pretty iterative, which is great for capturing old-world charm while remaining in the 21st century. Even so, I do wish that they would add more complications and allow for more modifications and different designs. Sure, there are a lot of horrific modifications on 47th Street, but today I actually got to experience some timepieces from Artisans de Geneve. An example being the submariner, which has been modified with a beautiful geoshi dial and a moon phase complication that replaces the date wheel, or a left-handed submariner with a skeleton dial, or a modern Daytona with the style of a classic Daytona. Sure, these are, for the most part, not designs that will attract most collectors, but as pieces that really show a level of individualism, with some aspects of haute Horologie, they do a fantastic job at capturing that.
