Finished a track this week after sitting on it for two months, sometimes you just need to step away and come back with fresh ears

Honestly I love doing this in general. Sometimes when you come back to it the way you play can also change

Right on. What's next for you? I sat on finishing a flute arrangement for the last 3 weeks and finally got back to it and done yesterday also. 8 and a half more songs to go!

big milestone: i cut down on my backlog of beats to be made so now i'm under 100. on the flip side, now i have over 100 beats with lyrics all ready to lay down the vocals to once i finish the beat backlog. it is seeming more and more realistic that i will catch up.

So i think i discovered something an interesting this summer. I have been producing electronic music for 5 years now. It started with dj-ing, going to clubs a lot listening to dj sets. So lets say that i got inspired.

So ever since i can remember i always thought about production in a way that i had some sort of style and sound in my head that i wanted to replicate or lets say achieve.

So every time i went to the studio it was this trial and error to achieve something i had in my head.

So this summer something clicked, i realised that i don’t have to try to sound like something else. I don’t have to buy the gear they used in some era to achieve some sound or whatever. I realised that i just have to work with what i know and what i have and this way i will get genuine results that come out of me.

So now i go in the studio i turn on a synth - it gives me a sound, i go from there… on and on. Im having soo much more fun now, and i think that i sort of developed a base from which i will start developing my sound. Before it was countless scrolling of presets and constantly scrolling through vsts on pluginboutique.

This is just my revelation. I hope a note like this inspires somebody to think about music production in this way or similar.

:D

I agree, this is the way. The thing that helped me the most starting out was having nothing but an acoustic guitar paired with a boss multi effects pedal for electric. It really helped me refine a sound that was just mine and learn how to craft cool arrangements with very limited options. Being able to say "I need something that serves the function of that synth I hear in my head" rather than "I've got to recreate that sound" made it possible to quickly power through a lot of low budget production back then.

Just getting back slowly into creating music. It’s fun! I haven’t done it in like 2 years, since school started, but now that that’s done, I’m happy to focus on my new progress

I shot a bunch of fun music YouTube content, edited a ton of music, finally started to pull myself out of my motivational funk, AND learned a Spiritbox riff that has been HAUNTING me for weeks!

Finished and released a longer project this month, an EP that tells one story from start to finish. I'd never put something that big out before.I've also started making content on socials and I'm taking it one listener at a time. Slow and a bit scary but it feels good to finally be putting my work out there.
