if you raise them from very young you can free feed them without an issue

except if they need to gain weight and it doesn't matter how much food you put in front of they just won't eat enough and now you have to buy the special nursing cat extra calorie kibble for your 12 year neutered male cat because he just won't eat enough of the normal kibble (totally not speaking from experience, no sir)

some cats just stand and eat till they physically can't anymore for whatever reason and some take two dainty mouthfuls every hour and a half

(yes he is healthy my bastard just didn't want to eat enough after finishing his antibiotics after he had crystals, I think I left an apartmens worth of money bringing him in to get his teeth, gut, blood and everything else examined to get told "he just doesn't want to eat that much right now")

Some cats do just fine being able to get food whenever and some don’t. Depends on the cat

Make sure your kitty gets a good supply of wet food cuz that looks like you're feeding Meow Mix with all the food coloring and the dye in it if you can upgrade to Purina One cat Naturals that would be pretty good stuff that Meow Mix is bad
