THESE GUYS CAN PLAY I don’t THINK it’s just because Laur was seated, but…
For my money (and as a huge fan of both bands and this whole scene in general) how I felt seeing Johnny Blue Skies and the Dark Clouds (Sturgill Simpson’s current outfit) is as close as I’ve gotten to the feeling I got when I saw Panic for the first time. If the end of this fall tour is swinging through your town, you will not regret the ticket. Last night we got 28 songs in 3 hours 15 minutes, and some of the transition jams reminded me of our guys in the best way. I was a baby during Panic’s prime, but I’m glad I’m here now.

Sturgill is one of the best doing it. Every time I’ve seen him and his band, it’s been amazing.

I’m kinda anti-Nugs on principle just because I grew up around tapers and tape swapping, but I’m gonna be so honest they can have my money for those Boston mp3s.

Im gonna have to give those a listen when I get off work tonight. Just scratching the surface here ... I've been sleeping on em for far too long!

Bro how can you be anti nugs in today’s day and age. Nugs allows us to go back and listen to so many widespread shows. Infinite music

Can confirm. The man barely talked, just blazed through a HUGE setlist. Sounded great. Heavy drone-y psych vibes. Darker sound live than I expected. Really enjoyed the show.

Sturgill is the man right now. Nothing I want to see more. If I (56m) was in my 20s right now I'd be chasing him like I did Panic

Dude, I'm 57 and I literally have a broken back. I saw Stu in Nashville followed by UM with a JoJo sit in and then the next weekend was at all three nights of Mempho. Stu again on the 27th and then Nolaween. LFG, it's Rocktober. You can sleep when you're dead.

Oh I have the physical means, it’s the pesos that become the issue. I am blessed to have seen the shows i have in my just-27 years on earth (Phish, Panic, UM, SCI, Willie, Santana, Allman Bros with Greg/Butch/Derek/Warren, every contemporary Dead project, Billy, Goose, King Gizz, Stu), I am exceedingly lucky.

If I had more of a means to chase, you bet I’d still be chasing. Here’s hoping that if he disappears again, it’s not for too long. Thank goodness for Bobby for summoning him to Mexico.

Thank you Pete Shapiro who loves him! Pete is also a huge reason Stu has gotten involved w the Dead family

Pete may be responsible for the strange phenomenon of the cult of Billy Strings as well.

I’m in my 20s and all the cool kids are still chasing panic/billy. Stu is incredible but it doesn’t even compare. Whole different league.

That's your opinion. I'm a fan of Nick, but panic today isn't what I was chasing. And after you've seen well over 200 shows it's gets tired. I'll take Stu every time now. And yeah can't do Billy. Not for me. I need hard driving w drums and heavy bass plus some keys help give depth too. I've tried. They're talented but it's still just bluegrass

Excuse me, but Panic and Nick are CRUSHING it right now! Seen way more shows than 200, and Panic NEVER gets tired! I'm like you that bluegrass ain't my jam, saw JBS as well, the jams are great, but too country sounding for me. Panic is still the best live touring R&R band in the land!

I’m the same way. Not really interested in music without drums

Without percussion, I'm bored. Was 8th row center for a Greensky Bluegrass at RR, went for Turkuaz (sp?) opener, left after four songs

About 50% of Stu’s setlist are the same from nights that’s are back to back. Idk how much “chase” you’ll get from that many repeats.

This. Sturgill is a phenomenal live act but you’re not missing a ton after you’ve seen him 5 times. Maybe a new cover. I’ve seen panic more times than I can count since 97, and it never gets old bc I never know what I’m going to get.

He’s as good as we have right now in terms of translating his songs to the live experience.

I'm so stoked with Nick panic and did 12 shows this summer and looking forward to Milwaukee next weekend! We did JBS in Albuquerque and Denver, and are heading to Nola on Tuesday morning from Milwaukee and while I feel terrible about not going to panic Halloween because I am just slammed at work right now. I'd rather see JBS one more time, especially if they are going to tour for 2 to 3 years. And I'm looking forward to his late night set at tiptina's 🕺

I saw Panic multiple times in their prime. JBS lapped them long ago. I doubt Sturgill sustains it, but it’s one of the top products I’ve seen live in the last 40 years.

I got to see Sturgill sit in with Panic in Charleston. That was a defining live music moment. Can’t wait for Raleigh.
