Ask Winnipeg EET ( Electrical/ Electronic) or Power Engineering( 4th and 3rd Class) at RRC? Which one is easier to get a job with after graduating?
Hey guys, I’m currently trying to decide between EET and Power Engineering at RRC Polytech, and I’m honestly torn between the two.
I’m interested in both, but one of my biggest concerns is getting a job after graduating. I don’t want to spend 2–3 years in school only to struggle to find work afterwards.
Ideally, I’d like to get a job through co-op or even have something lined up before I graduate.
For those who studied either program or currently work in either field in Manitoba, I’d love to hear your experience.
How easy was it to find your first job after graduating? What was your starting salary, and how much are you making now if you don’t mind sharing?
Also, does RRC actually help students find co-op placements.
I know both fields have their pros and cons, but I’m trying to figure out which one gives me a better chance of finding work and building a good career here in Manitoba.
Any advice from graduates or people working in these fields would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You shouldnt have a problem getting a job with either option. EET will likely pay better in the long run. Instrumentation and Electrical are more in demand than Electronic.

The city and private rinks are usually looking for power engineers to run building hvac and ice plants. Pay is decent and the city jobs are union.

You only need a 5th or 4th class for those jobs. The pay is okay, but not great.

While you’re deciding, I’d suggest checking out Mb Hydro training programs as well:

Split the difference and get instrumentation and make more.
