Best daughter in gaming; keeps your monster hunter pension from disappearing.

17

u/midasMIRV 5d ago

I'd like to think Geralt just did a working retirement teaching mercs to hunt monsters down in toussaint.

1

u/Jobber0001 1d ago

I always assumed similar. Like in the "good" ending to blood and wine he works with the duchess and her guard captain to build a monster hunting division. Not imbued with witcher mutations but trained to fight akin to a witcher and use witcher tools to deal with monsters. Enough to keep the people of toussaint safe from the frankly insane amount of weird ass monsters they have

5

u/stupled 5d ago

Did you say Monster Hunter?

4

u/Cnokeur 5d ago

At least ai didnt took it, he just did his job so well its over

74

u/Jaykenss 6d ago

Nah, meeting ciri and deciding to take her under his wing is what changed him

41

u/Sapowski_Casts_Quen 6d ago

I think implication in the books leans heavily towards both

20

u/Jaykenss 5d ago

Yennefer and Geralt had been trying to make it work for many years but it never really did, the catalyst for them having a more healthy relationship was Geralt accepting Ciri and becoming a more mature and steadfast man and yennefer finally becoming the mother she always wanted.

6

u/Bisque22 4d ago

My understanding is more that Yens struggle against her infertility is what put so much strain on their relationship, and her pouring her unfulfilled maternal feelings onto Ciri is what enabled her to be less... difficult.

2

u/SuperRacsist69 2d ago

I think it helped them both greatly that they were forced to become better for Ciri's sake. Geralt especially was just wandering around the Continent aimlessly for decades. Killing monsters, sleeping with whores, and of course getting into hijinks with Dandelion. Before he had to take Ciri under his wing.

3

u/Mooptiom 5d ago

You’re allowed to say rape if that’s what you’re on about. But if you’re just trying to make a cheap joke about rape then maybe you shouldn’t start in the first place.

u/-Aone 5d ago

i had more comments removed from this website than you have, and i dont care to be banned over sensitive moderators. feel free to risk your own self

2

u/Mooptiom 5d ago

Why make rape jokes then?

1

u/smokey-taboo 4d ago

I was never making a rape joke... I was making a double-timing / threesome joke...

1

u/Fuzzy-Tooth3269 5d ago

Because that’s what Truss did to Geralt in the books, that is what he’s eluding to lol

0

u/-Aone 5d ago

how bored are you to get the joke and still drill me over it.

1

u/Mooptiom 5d ago

this is super nice essay but if the genders were reversed Garalt totally *** her. no two ways about it. he by very definition couldnt give consent because he wasn't informed enough. its THE definition of consent. its not just about age, its about information and ability to process it. she denied him information to get him to bed. its literal ***
(no i wont type the word, reddit hates me)

1

u/Sirius124 5d ago

While what Yen did was bad that still does not meet the definition of the word.

31

u/Skull_Boy_ds 5d ago

One of the best things that happened to me on repeated playthroughs is that I started seeing Geralt and Yen as an old married couple. This made me reconsider my initial assessment of Yen as a asshole and Geralt as her boot licker.

They just banter a lot, which is way more realistic for a decade old relationship than if the two were all sweet with each other like high schoolers.

28

u/Significant_Bed_297 5d ago

This is the correct read.

They've been together for a long, long, long time by the time we're in the witcher 3. They've been through some shit, they even hit a point where they were going to suicide together in the books.

Triss is like a rapey college fling in comparison.

9

u/PotatoFrankenstein 4d ago

And the worst part is the fact she is not that "sweet naive baby" in books, especially later. She actually had pretty important possition as an advisor of king Foltest (!!!) and wasn't even that old for it (she is also not some 20-years old who just graduated from school). Manipulation and getting advantage of Geralt's amnesia is one thing, but they also make her extremely childish and naive, just a "dream gamer girlfriend".

0

u/Jobber0001 1d ago

that is why I can never like triss. She knew who geralt was, knew he was yen's long time lover even if they were in basically an open relationship most of their time apart. She still took advantage of his amnesia and used him

3

u/Dull_Job_6372 4d ago

She really took advantage of my boy smh

2

u/wez_vattghern 2d ago

Sorry to be so blunt, but that's a misconception. Geralt and Yennefer have known each other for over two decades, but that doesn't mean they've been in a relationship for that entire time. Taking both the books and the games into account, they've actually only been together for about 3 of the 23 years they've known each other.

And one of those years was the time they spent in Avalon, which is only mentioned in the games (between 1268 and 1269). Even being generous with the dates, they spent more time apart than together, and despite how intense their relationship is, it's still relatively "new."

8

u/Far-Lynx-9833 5d ago

Let's not forget THEY ARE an old married couple, without the marriage. In the games at least, Geralt is almost 100 and I can never remember who's older, but young looks or not, they're old. No small wonder, really along with their personalities

3

u/Advanced_Oven 4d ago

Geralt is not almost hundred, he is about 60 in the games. Yen is around 100 tho. I know it's not that significant, but I just see this misconception a lot.

4

u/Destroyer_Of_Souls_ 3d ago

Doesn't Vesemir say in white orchard that Geralt is almost 100?("sam masz prawie setkę na karku" in the polish version)

3

u/Advanced_Oven 3d ago

He does, but then it's probably just a mistake, I just going of the books

1

u/the_tea-man 1d ago

Geralt is 60 based on a prequel book called the crossroad of raven released more than half a decade after the release of the Witcher 3. The author can change the book cannon all he wants. It doesn't change the fact that geralt is canonically nearly a hundred in the books.

1

u/TheChasm2 4d ago

Ain’t they both 90s? Yen is a bit older iirc

6

u/Advanced_Oven 4d ago

I think their ages are revealed in the books, just not exact. Just looked it up: Geralt is born in 1211 and the game ends around 1272 or smth like that. Yen is born in 1173. I started replaying the game and I Vesemir tells Geralt that he is almost 100 for some reason, I think that's where the misconstaption comes from.

2

u/Lytherael 4d ago

I think Geralt's age was revealed in a book released after the game, though don't quote me on that.

2

u/Advanced_Oven 4d ago

The exact number yes, but there is a line in the original saga that Yen is about 100, and Geralt is younger than her. I haven't read them in the while, tho. Even before Crossroads of the Crows I think most people speculated that he is about 60-80. Maybe just me, but never thought of him being a hundred

3

u/tabris51 5d ago

Sadly my first play trough was with yen and I am stuck with her now. I just can't bring myself to romance triss when she pretends to be drunk and stuff.

I did cheat on her with shani tho, after all, she was my og romance in first game.

3

u/GoTheFuckToBed 4d ago

they also have been together by destiny, (which makes them always meeting each other again)

destiny is a strong power in the witcher universe that you cant avoid

This is the love story of a 28+ year old unmedicated aud-hd man (or enby) and the only autistic baddie who can keep him from no-call no-showing their job and depression-holing for 2 months once a year

16

u/ClarkSmallville 6d ago

Who gave you permission to call me out like that ? I will let you slso know that I work now in EMS and I only did sick calls for like 10 days this year, because dying people create enough urgency to make me work...

4

u/Southern-Cancel3169 6d ago

Having a job you care about or that feels like it makes a difference definitely helps. Doesn't make you immune, but helps

<3

3

u/KProbs713 6d ago

Speaking as a fellow intermittent depression-holer that's pushing 15 years in EMS....

It helps a lot at first and then it can catch up to you. Get a therapist you trust now and be watchful for signs of only working/sleeping, this job with no hobbies or outside social connection will consume you til you're nothing but a ball of exhaustion and existential despair.

3

u/ClarkSmallville 4d ago

Thanks for the advise :) Absolutly true for everone!

I'm on off qith therapy and can only recommend :)

8

u/gsp1991dog 5d ago

I mean sometimes you need a bossy goth chick to boss you around for a minute or two to get out of a depression… maybe that’d work for me too idk 🤷

7

u/JonDoe117 5d ago

Geralt: "You smell wonderful."
Yen: "We're in a funeral."
Geralt: "You smell wonderful in this funeral."

All I can think about is what would be the reaction of the people around them.

5

u/No_Phone_8059 3d ago

I’ve started to read the Witcher finally I’m almost halfway through the second book and I kinda don’t like yen at this point, unfortunately I find Geralt very relatable and his relationship with yen somewhat hits close to home.

2

u/wez_vattghern 3d ago

It's disappointing, isn't it?

1

u/No_Phone_8059 3d ago

I wouldn’t t say that it’s made me love this universe more

2

u/wez_vattghern 2d ago

Well, if she and her actions haven’t disappointed you so far, then I’d say you have nothing to worry about regarding what’s to come.

2

u/Lyceus_ 12h ago

It's such a toxic relationship.

1

u/just_fucking_PEG_ME 11h ago

Just wait until you find out what Triss did.

1

u/Lyceus_ 11h ago

I know it, it's either in the first or second book, isn't it?

It's awful, but on the other hand, Geralt says in another part of the books that he's immune to witches' magic, so there's a contradiction in there.

1

u/Big-Hovercraft-5279 3d ago

Read more, it’s gonna be different

1

u/No_Phone_8059 3d ago

I’m quite eager to but I’m sick at the moment and I like to read aloud strangely

1

u/slimfatty69 2d ago

I dont wanna spoil to much but i will say its inteded to not like Yen at this point. She is a very flawed character and is yet to even come to terms with her flaws let alone working on them. I think youre gonna like how their relationship develops especially if you like it "hitting close to home" imo theyre probably one of the more belivable fictional romances.

4

u/Affectionate_Lime880 6d ago

Not sure if it's bad or not that my adhd ass would 100% be fine with this lol.

3

u/GreatMarch 5d ago

I think it’s more normal than anything else for people with ADHD. I genuinely love doing things for my partner and my friends that helps them that clearly need doing, because ADHD makes personal decision making a challenge.

2

u/Sleeksnail 6d ago

teamroach

2

u/TheZoroarkMan 5d ago

Me but with Dandelion

2

u/RUMELDS 5d ago

Well Geralt is into bossy women who order him around like a mother would a child.

Geralt might be a "whipped yes man" but we still love him.

1

u/Jobber0001 1d ago

whom amongst us does not like a dominant brunette woman using them like a toy to get off. Let they who are without kink cast the first downvote

u/genophobicdude 5d ago

Geralt: Our age of Witchers is collapsing.

1

u/notrobertx 4d ago

I think punani that smells like lilac and gooseberries would have this effect on anyone

1

u/Kakashisith Oh Valley of Plenty 4d ago

They ARE old married couple and that`s why I never choose Triss.

1

u/YourLordLuci 2d ago

Don't save him, he's right where he wants to be.

1

u/talongrimm13 2d ago

In the books shes a cold and abrasive cow but shes also quite caring and empathetic. She acts the way she does because shes seen the worst of people but her affections for geralt and ciri are very strong. Yennefer isnt a cut and dry, self centred heartless bitch, shes disgusted by how humans treat non humans. Her attitude isnt a case of arrogance or ignorance, more just that she guards herself. In the netflix show she wad willing to trade ciri for her powers which is one thing she'd never do in the books because she does feel a maternal connection towards her. I feel because of how shes framed I the game and Netflix show people tend to ignore the other stuff about her.

1

u/Freeman10 1d ago

Dude, it's....complicated.

1

u/oldmornings 1d ago

I could never say no to her

1

u/ThyThuum 5d ago

That’s why I chose Triss, yen just belittles me constantly

0

u/Decent_Historian42 5d ago

My favourite dynamic is

Tough lady Ɨ stoic and tough man that gets pegged by tough lady.

0

u/Filip97X 2d ago

Geralt: No. I will make us a sandwich and still massage gou feet

Yen: omg a man that finally stood up to me and does what I want

-7

u/Educational-Tackle54 6d ago

Good, now do one with the Overwatch Mercy resue meme where Triss gives hope to Geralt due to her goodness.

-11

u/redsun44 6d ago

Aight now do the book version

34

u/Euphoric-Rub-5122 6d ago

ā€œMy profession and way of life are dying. My existence is meaningless. Destiny is a lie,ā€ Geralt said, depressed, lying on the floor surrounded by rats and hay.

Yennefer storms into the room

ā€œGet off your ass, make me a sandwich with apple juice, and massage my feet,ā€ said the raven haired witch, smelling of lilac and gooseberries.

ā€œOMG, YEN! HI!!ā€ Geralt exclaimed, performing a pirouette.

7

u/poisonous_buttercup 6d ago

PERFORMING A PIROUETTE 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 ISTG

-10

u/redsun44 6d ago

What is up with you and feet man. You could give Tarantino a run for his money.

14

u/CaptSaveAHoe55 Oh Valley of Plenty 6d ago

Actually that’s a direct quote from the books, you can tell due to the pirouette and Yen still being very mean

9

u/methconnoisseurV2 6d ago

If you took a shot every time Sapkowski writes the word ā€œpirouetteā€, you’d be dead on a beach in Tijuana before the end of Blood of Elves
