I have read this subreddit's rules twtrout bemoans how DC has treated Wonder Woman and Green Lantern
99
u/Sampleswift 2d ago
At least Green Lantern has Lanterns and will get My Adventures with Green Lantern...
28
u/curicaca14 1d ago
GL has three animated movies, one live action film, one animated series (not counting MAGL, since it hasn't come out yet), and one live action series. He actually has more adaptations than Wonder Woman, and seemingly gets much more of a push from DC than WW, for some reason.
3
u/Millicay 1d ago
Three? First Flight, Emerald Knights, what's the other one?
Because Wonder Woman has 2009 and Bloodline, right?

Hal is dead in Lanterns and rumored to be dead in My Adventures with Green Lantern

u/Far-Heart-7134 2d ago
Well it sounds like he got treaated better than that whole parallax thing in the comics. That whoopies doodle
12
u/Lopsided-Clothes4866 2d ago
How is that being treated better?
Emerald twilight was 1 story that happened after Hal had been Green Lantern for decades, his death lasted barely a decade and he was back with Rebirth as the main lantern.
Meanwhile Hal has only 2 live action adaptions one of which he’s dead in the first episode and sidelined out of the DCU in its 2nd year and the other was crap.
If Wonder Woman was treated like that and sidelined for Donna, Cassie, Artemis or Yara, us Wonder Woman fans would lose our shit and rightly so.

u/farrellsgone 2d ago
I'm distrusting the whole MAWGL thing as a whole because the superheroine that Jess looks up to is Supergirl (no problem with Kara but I think it's weird that the Teen Titans and multiple WW villains somehow exist in the universe with no Diana mention) also it's rumoured that DC overlooked Simon Baz in favor of having Kyle Rayner as the male lead which is also disappointing because whilst Kyle might not have any major adaptations he's still one of the more popular Lanterns. Simon on the other hand is constantly put on the back burner
4
u/Willburt14 2d ago
I mean they probably just wanted her to look up to a character that's already established in the universe. MAWS was very particular about building out the world without namedropping heroes.
3
u/Lumpy-Tea1948 2d ago
Yeah, I agree. Supergirl is an established character and just helps establishes that both of the show’s, exist in the same universe.
So, Basing your distrust of a show on Jess looking up to Supergirl rather than Wonder Woman (a character who hasn’t even been established) is just silly.

u/Which-Presentation-6 2d ago
There's a chance that Orion and Carter will join this picture later.
18
u/sxg3434 2d ago
They're too irrelevant to even make it into that pic tbh
11
u/Which-Presentation-6 2d ago
There's no problem with irrelevance.
But DC mistreats them a lot, and there's a chance DCU will do the same to them and their myths.
8
u/Important-Cry4782 2d ago
Yeha, but the way DC Mistreats wonder woman borders on sadism
7
u/Which-Presentation-6 2d ago
Definitely, but Hawkman is on the same level.
10
u/0rangelantern 2d ago
Yeah. At least Wonder Woman isn't made into a creepy stalker or conservative strawman.
7
u/Important-Cry4782 1d ago
no she's made into a "radical feminist" as an effort by DC to insult feminism
2
u/0rangelantern 1d ago
DC literally markets her as a feminist in an attempt to appeal to women. Them failing to do that correctly isn't malicious, it's stupidity.
-1
u/Friendly-Leg-6694 2d ago
Even Hal was too irrelevant since the last everyone saw of him was that godawful 2011 movie.
4
u/Important-Cry4782 2d ago
What 2011 movie? I don't recall there ever being one in 2011?
Oh, did you mean Green Lantern First Flight? or was it Emerald Corps?

Most adaptations have not figured out that Diana has more to her besides Hippolyta, Cheetah, Etta Candy, Steve Trevor, and Circe.

u/Azraelmorphyne 2d ago
Yes, but its a really beloved show.
And she had one good movie recently.
Hal had a bad film and a show that made him a misathopic asshole who gets shot and burried by the end.
I know dc treats wonder woman bad but they treat hal worse and neither of them could stand toe to toe with how dc treats kyle rayner.
7
u/Clean_Ad2543 2d ago
You think Hal has it WORST??? Like i said, this man has had 2 tv shows (regardless of how u feel about Lanterns, it was critically acclaimed) and multiple animated movies about him that are considered some of the best animated superhero movies ever. And in comics hes always been treated as the face of Green Lanterns. Wonder Woman has to fight tooth and nail just to prove shes part of the trinity and yeah she had a good movie, while being portrayed by a zionist who cant act and a pretentious director who turned her into a simp for a man she met 50 years ago for less than a week. And yeah Kyle has had it super rough but hes also well respected and hyped up for being the white lantern. Meanwhile power scalers wanna argue Aquaman is more powerful than her now. She has it worst hands down
-2
u/Lumpy-Tea1948 2d ago
The problem with the latter half of this sentence is that she isn’t Batman or Superman. The Trinity thing is just a branding thing.
Objectively, if you look at how these characters have been treated, Wonder Woman has appeared in far more Justice League material and has had more live-action movies/appearances, has appeared in more animated movies, and has had animated cartoon appearances.
Hal has had more of his own cartoons, sure, but there’s a reason John Stewart was seen as the Green Lantern for a long time, and why the most popular version of Wonder Woman is arguably the one from the old Justice League cartoon, which put her front and center as one of the main characters.
7
u/Clean_Ad2543 2d ago
Thats the thing, DC thinks she can only be successful when shes sharing with other big names instead of treating her like a big name herself. Yes she has more appearances but Hal has more solo material than her. They underestimate her but not Hal
0
u/Lumpy-Tea1948 2d ago
The conversation is who gets treated better though.
So while I don’t disagree that dc underestimates her ability to be successful on her own more than Hal, it doesn’t mean, they treat Hal better, considering dude kinda faded from public consciousness and overall media for years lol
3
u/Clean_Ad2543 2d ago
True but that was due to the atrocious movie. They just been treating her like that from the jump. Hell the fact he got a movie before her just shows how much they dont appreciate her
3
u/Azraelmorphyne 1d ago
He didnt fade because of bad media in 2011, he faded because he was in bad media in 2011... Since then they've eplored and invented new lanterns like simon baz, jessica cruz, and sojourner mullen. They also had john stewart waiting in the wings since the justice league cartoon to start taking his place in media because...
Unlike Diana, Hal is easily replacable. While Diana may not have as many stand alone pieces of media she's almost always in media. The next justice league wont feature clark kent, bruce wayne, and Artemis, or Orano. Itll always be Diana. And in any cartoon where they get other leaguers to help them... It'll be Diana as wonder Woman... On the rare case that its not.. its likely super man and batman have also been altered like in justice league gods and monsters.
But hal is a crap shoot with two major live action appearances where despite having actors that people enjoy playing him..his media is kinda floppy. Its certainly not as good as wonder womans.
I might also add... That the same guy whos kinda messed up her latest mainstream comic is the guy that wrote lanterns... And most lanterns fans are not eating. Its a nothing burger by the finale. So I think its acurate to say that theyve at least been treated similarly if not that dianas sheer position as the only well recived wonder woman puts her on top.
2
u/Clean_Ad2543 1d ago
Maybe you have a point there, but the treatment she gets definitely doesnt match her status as a member of the DC trinity. Also im aware of Tom King and ive despised that man ever since he ruined the batcat wedding. Why DC keeps hiring that war criminal i will never understand
3
u/Azraelmorphyne 1d ago
Idk. The man thinks hes hot shit cause he orcastrated the death of bin ladin or something. I dont care for him either... He starts out so strong and then... Blah. Lol
What im saying basically is, there are other heroes who do have it worse or as bad. Wonder woman is treated the worst out of the trinity for sure but, being compared to other fan favorites outside or it she does pretty good.
If we start treating ber like shes treated worse than everybody without discretion people will take us less seriously. So we have to look at everything from every angle. And in the case of Hal Jordan, specifically.... He gets shit on a lot. Is diana given less media to shine in than green lanterns overall? Yes. Would i kill to see diana and sojourner team up. Yes. Do I think that absolute green lantern is doing for sojourner what absolute wonder woman is doing for diana? Yes. Those books are keeping their names in the public even when the standard ones are kinda boring....
If you like wonder woman try out GL: Far Sector ...
I just hate to see any character have bad media come out.... It lowers the chances that Diana will get her stuff green lit. In a better world wed be talking about how the Paradice Island show came out and kind of flopped and in the best time line... In the best time line they would have both been amazing and we could be talking about the bawana beast and vixen sitcome where they run a zoo and have a cast of funny animals that act like a sitcom family with them.. like the wild thornberries!

The Hal statement doesn't make sense cause people absolutely loved Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. He is gone for now but then again he will probably return since the show hinted at his eventual resurrection at the hands of Sinestro.
Lanterns has its issues but it singlehandedly bought the franchise back to limelight after that disaster of a 2011 movie.Hal Jordan legacy before Lanterns was to be used as a joke in every Deadpool movie.
5
u/Millicay 1d ago
For a Wonder Woman fan, imagine if they did a series adaptation of Tom King's run on WW, it became hugely popular and now general audiences thought that's the best representation of Wonder Woman.
That's Lanterns for GL fans.
-12
u/Lopsided-Clothes4866 2d ago
Hal Jordan literally got dumped on the entire series and treated like shit.
The only reason people like him is because Kyle Chandler is a charismatic fucker which ironically also makes it difficult to bring him back seeing as the man is 60 years old.
What can they actually do by bringing back a 60 year old Hal Jordan when they just had an entire show jerking off John Stewart and hyping him up as the greatest choice and using Hal’s character as a stepping stone in John’s story?

u/MovieMaster2004 1d ago
How would you feel if Diana gets to be treated as a jaded washed has-been who gets killed by a random cop she dates for a season while the entire narrative is telling you Nubia is better while she does everything that betrays her first page in all of comics lmao.
2
u/Odd-Friendship6078 1d ago
Hal Jordon is and always was a flawed character. He isn't some perfect hero. The show captured that wonderfully.
Also, it's a shitty comparison because Diana IS the main Wonder woman. Hal Jordan isn't the main GL. He is a GL with a lot of others taking the main light at different times.
1
u/TheKwingDoctor 1d ago
Much of the biggest events and era-defining moments for the Lantern mythos were mainly related to Hal, so him being replaceable and not THE GL, is just dumb and misconstrued.
2
u/Odd-Friendship6078 1d ago
My guy, one of those biggest moments were Hal becoming PARALLAX. Hal is "the GL" the same way Barry is "THE" flash.
I'm not dissing Hal at all. Hal is a legendary Lantern, but his fall has always been part of his arc and he isn't "the" GL.
0
u/MovieMaster2004 1d ago
Nope.
First off, Hal is THE Green Lantern, you don’t have him, you lose most of the Lantern Mythos. Secondly, Barry&Wally are much more interchangeable because they do have strong connections to the Rogues, to the wider DC World, and strong personalities that can carry their solo run.
The difference between Hal and Kyle’s interconnectivity to the Lantern Mythos and the wider DC universe is huge, and the difference between Kyle and the rest of the human GLs is impossible to even put into words.
Finally, not only is the Parallax arc a weak, rushed transformation, that’s still the only moment you can mention of Hal being morally compromised as a hero, he’s consistently one who plays the sacrifice card whenever it’s needed.
2
u/Odd-Friendship6078 1d ago
Nobody ever said you can't have Green Lanterns without Hal. It's like you can't have Flash without Barry. But neither the respective "the"s
1
u/Working_Kick_6041 1d ago
It’s more about how Hal is the green lantern in most everyone’s eyes and he’s kinda treated like shit in the show for a character like John Stewart who truthfully kinda isn’t all that good to be better. Still great show but the dud feel like there was alit of John glazing
3
u/Frigobard 1d ago
I'm an Hal fan, it's honestly making me hate the ip how some of these so called fans don't understand shit about both the characters and the series while still thrashing It just cause Hal wasn't a Gary Sue

For Wonder Woman fans to understand, let me sub Diana in for how DCCU Hal Jordan was written, and see if you’d like Diana written that way:
- Her entire Amazonian extended family is dead, or don’t exist in this continuity
- She’s written as depressed & passively suicidal, inheriting this from her mother (who killed herself & left her a suicide note at 10)
- Everybody in the show treats her as a nuisance or asshole, even when she’s trying to help people
- She hardly ever flies, uses her super strength or abilities, or wears her costume, and her lasso goes limp or doesn’t work every 5 minutes.
- She’s written as an anti-black racist (look up the Lanterns writers' room podcast, where writers like Vanessa B. Kelly explicitly state they wrote Hal that way)
- She’s murdered via her OC male police officer boyfriend, shot in the head when Diana tries to propose relocating his future supervillain daughter. That OC is allowed to walk free by Nubia
- Steve Trevor is a 2 minute cameo appearance at her funeral. Her funeral is set in a tiny town she has no connection to, and no Amazons or core WW characters appear. She receives no honors or tributes for her service. Instead it’s just Steve, her OC murderer, and Nubia
- The writers denigrate Diana at every turn in both the show and their interviews, propping up Nubia as the future Wonder Woman.
- Nubia digs up Diana’s grave, then loots her tiara and Lasso of Truth off her corpse
This entire subreddit would be up in arms had Diana been treated this way in any adaptation, let alone the main cinematic universe DC is trying to build going forward

u/Lopsided-Clothes4866 1d ago
Us Wonder Woman fans are massive hypocrites apparently.
They’ll defend this shit while actively trashing Tom King’s Wonder Woman which doesn’t even come close to the character assassination of Hal in Lanterns, and I hate that book as well.
Us Wonder Woman fans lost out shit over Circe getting beaten by weasel. Apparently Wonder Woman’s villain getting chumped is somehow worse than Hal Jordan getting crapped all over and killed off.

u/MGD109 1d ago
- She’s written as an anti-black racist (look up the Lanterns writers room podcast, where writers like Vanessa B. Kelly explicitly state they wrote Hal that way)
Yeah, I think that's taking that one out of context.
Now I won't deny the valid criticisms of the series, but I feel that analysis also overlooks the fact that the narrative also repeatedly presents Hal as extremely clever, competent and capable at his job.
Every deduction he makes is correct, and multiple times, people not listening to him just leads to more problems that could easily be avoided.
He lives and dies a selfless man who just wants to help others and it ends with John concluding he always was a true hero.
2
u/parkdoosparasytes 1d ago edited 1d ago
i agree in that he wasn’t written as an overtly anti black racist but he does act ignorant . It’s the equivalent to an older Diana or Hippolyta saying “Nubia is one the good ones or a credit to her people.”
Especially since the writers wrote Hal to be a stand in for Biden and John as Kamala.
1
u/MGD109 1d ago
i agree in that he wasn’t written as an overtly anti black racist but he does act ignorant
Well I'll concede he makes a couple of ignorant comments.
Especially since the writers wrote Hal to be a stand in for Biden and John as Kamala.
What? Did they say that as well? It really didn't come across onscreen.
1
u/parkdoosparasytes 1d ago
Yeah, and even then that ignorance is more so specifically to slight John since he knows the guardians prefer him (obedient foot soldier not someone who questions the chain of command)
In Jordan Boys Legacy there’s this thread about Hal refusing to let go of the baseball.
If we substitute Diana for Hal and Yara or Nubia for John, it would be the equivalent of Diana refusing to let go of the lasso of truth, her gauntlets or even the title of Wonder Woman because Hippolyta killed herself.
Obviously a stand in for the ring and Biden being so senile yet either refusing to give Kamala the presidency out of spite as well. VBK the writer says it on their podcast. Feels weird to project that dynamic onto John and Hal.
2
u/MGD109 1d ago
Yeah, that's very fair. His hostility is more cause he recognises he's being forced out, despite his exemplary service.
Have to be honest, I got a very different read from that episode. I took him holding onto the baseball as a metaphor for his family's hereditary depression, that unlike his father and grandfather, he wasn't going to give up and let it take him.
Yeah, it does sound really weird and doesn't really translate to how the events played out. Honestly, I'm glad I stopped listening to that; you enjoy the show a lot more without it.
0
u/ImiqDuh 1d ago
Yes, but Hal and the other Lanterns get a lot of representation in media; Wondy does not.
2
u/Paradox_The_Rebel 1d ago
No representation is better than bad representation.
If Wonder Woman was adapted like this in a show called “Amazons”, no Wonder Woman fan would like it.
Also, adaptations always affect how the characters are perceived to the public, even more than the comics. WW fans should know this after Injustice and the Flashpoint animated movie

In lanterns his basically old man Logan but without 10 years of knowing the character and the adventure
Hal in lanterns a very huge departure from the comics his charismatic and very good detective at detecting bullshit like in ep 1 he knew the alien episode 2 knew something was wrong episode 4 knew John was lying about Zoe not knowing she was the manhunter and called (fake) Hammond bluff and halogram knew John was lying about the funeral His jaded and tired after doing this shit for 30 years and having the guardians forcing him to be replaced by John and in his own words "I'm not fearless because not afraid I'm fearless because I'm broken" This was mostly after finding out he died and assumed he blew his shit off like his dad and granddad (he didn't that was another person)
People hate him but that's Mostly the people of rushville who are basically in a cult trying to protect a genocidal robot
A lot of his rogues probably doesn't exist (probably not the even silver age ones)not including sinestro

I really hate this line of thinking that people have had regarding Green Lantern fans being "ungrateful" since the show came out. Regardless of how good or bad the show was it's objectively not the cosmic epic that most people expect from the Green Lantern IP. If Wonder Woman was given a stellar psychological thriller as an adaptation that treated her lore as if it didn't matter would you tell the fans that they were being ungrateful for not liking it as a Wonder Woman adaptation? It's perfectly reasonable to acknowledge Lanterns as a good show whilst simultaneously pointing out that it's not a good GL show

The problem is I dont agree that Lanterns is doing that to GL lore.
But if they finally gave Dianna something that was actively good and people got up in arms about "Where are all the gods?" Or whined because they did something like not acknowledge Hippolyta as once holding the title, I would certainly feel similar.
6
u/Lopsided-Clothes4866 2d ago
How about if they made a Wonder Woman show where she’s a massive failure, gets people killed, is actively shat on by everyone in the show, the amazons want to replace her as Wonder Woman and the show ends with Wonder Woman’s OC boyfriend randomly killing her.
0
u/Discussion-is-good 2d ago
I would certainly wonder what the fuck they were planning for her.
I can definitely understand the frustration from Hal fans. I feel he was done much worse than the Green Lanterns as a whole.
7
u/Lopsided-Clothes4866 2d ago
That’s just it though? They clearly aren’t planning anything for Hal.
They killed him off to prop up John Stewart and none of writers or show runners were even shy about hiding the fact that John Stewart is the main lantern.
Hal fans are the large chunk of Green Lantern fans, he is the main Green Lantern and the book always drops in sales when they try to sideline him, so no wonder why a lot of Green Lantern fans think the show sucks, especially when they have a bunch of non-fans whom have never picked up a green lantern comic trying to claim it’s the greatest thing ever.
-2
u/Discussion-is-good 2d ago

This isnt necessarily a problem imo. The goal of the show was arguably to make John a much more widely known and popular character. Granted Ive no Hal bias among the greens, so it wouldn't bother me as much. It is a problem, if this...
They clearly aren’t planning anything for Hal.
...is true. However I feel thats an pessimistic stance. They've given 2 of the big 3 a spotlight now. Hal, being the most well known and popular of the human lanterns, is certainly going to be used beyond this show. Even cynically, itd be leaving money on the table not to.

This paragraph is a perfect encapsulation of why I struggle to take Lanterns hate seriously.
Yes. Hal fans are the bulk.
They're also historically documented as spoiled, they throw a fit whenever he's "sidelined" until he returns.
It really just comes off as Hal fans being the main ones upset, while everyone else thinks its a pretty solid show.
Now, yall have valid frustrations. However the people acting like the show was dogshit just comes off as Hal fans doing what Hal fans do when Hal isnt the main character.

How is it not a problem? If you have to kill off the No.1 Green Lantern to try and give John a chance to be popular then maybe John isn’t a good character that deserves to be the main Lantern of the DCU, is he?
There was zero reason to shit on Hal, to sideline him or kill him off. They were intentional decisions done to drag Hal’s character down and represent him as a shitty choice past his prime as lantern who needs to hand over the ring.
Especially when there’s been a very mixed reception to John because the show inadvertently made John look like an idiot cop defender who doesn’t really do a single heroic thing in the entire show.
Like I said if Wonder Woman was treated this way this subreddit would have a fucking meltdown, look at how it reacted to Circe getting beaten by Weasel in Creature commando’s.

No, it’s called being a realist.
Kyle Chandler is 61 years old already, they killed Hal off in his first appearance, where exactly can they bring this character back and what would even be the point? What is there a 61 year old Hal Jordan can even do? Stand around in the background and play boring mentor? Double down and do a crappy adaption of Parralax?
Even if they do bring Hal back it will be done for no reason other than Kyle Chandler was popular and they don’t trust John to be a success on his own.
Yes. Hal fans are the bulk.
They're also historically documented as spoiled, they throw a fit whenever he's "sidelined" until he returns.
Hal fans are spoiled because they don’t want to him to be shat all over, made into a shitty failure that’s compared to racists and corrupt cops and then killed off in his 2nd live action appearance ever at the start of the 2nd year of the DCU? Am I hearing that right?
Hal fans have waited 15 fucking years for another live action adaption, and this is the dogshit they got, and now they have to wait another 15 years at minimum for a chance at a good and proper adaption that doesn’t wipe its ass with the character.
It really just comes off as Hal fans being the main ones upset, while everyone else thinks it’s a pretty solid show.
Yes the fans of the character that got shat on are the ones the most livid while the non fans don’t care. Absolute fucking shocker, who couldn’t have foreseen that happening?
Now, yall have valid frustrations. However the people acting like the show was dogshit just comes off as Hal fans doing what Hal fans do when Hal isnt the main character.
The show was dogshit?
What was good about it?
The mysteries weren’t mysteries and were painfully obvious, Hal’s death was dumb as shit, John’s not even a fucking hero in the show, and the show seems outright embarrassed about anything comic booky.
It was pretentious cynical trash written by hack writers like Tom King that made all the Lanterns into miserable fucks with little to no actual heroic qualities.
Can’t even have real aliens ffs, they are all just humans.

The problem is treating decades of great stories as fodder for "content"

How is it treating it as fodder?

They only make quick references to lore and have no plans to adapt the mythos. They killed Hal Jordan before Sinestro gets a yellow ring. They made manhunters weak. They used the name Hector Hammond as a cheap red herring, showing us that he doesn't exist. Now Hal is dead and there is no proof he ever fought a real villain other than Sinestro once. He also seems to have no real friends, like Kilowog or Tomar Re. Guy Gardner was indifferent towards his death. Carol Ferris was little more than a weak cameo. The writers confirmed that they had not planned out season 2 and don't know if they will bring back Hal, and it's clear they only care after realizing people liked Hal more than John.

Dont forget how Carol couldnt even be bothered to give her speech at the funeral of the man she loved, having someone else do it instead, which implies either their relationship crashed and burned extremely or they never really dated in the first place, which also negates the entire Hal/Carol dynamic, esp if they somehow still make her Star Sapphire (watch them make her a love interest for John instead).

Some fair points for sure. Ill respond to the ones Id like to dispute slightly, any I dont feel free to pressume I either agree with your point or do not have a counter point.

I dont feel we can say the latter half for certain. Unless you mean concrete, set in stone plans.
Now Hal is dead and there is no proof he ever fought a real villain other than Sinestro once. He also seems to have no real friends, like Kilowog or Tomar Re. Guy Gardner was indifferent towards his death.
Now do not get me wrong here. Hal was done dirty. However, thats at least partially the nature of him not being the main character.
They very very clearly intended to focus on John. Arguably, they're trying to give John exposure and popularity his character hasnt seen prior.
Did they have to imply that Hal isnt very close with the any of the other Green Lanterns , or have him killed? No. I agree, your frustration is incredibly valid there.
The writers confirmed that they had not planned out season 2 and don't know if they will bring back Hal, and it's clear they only care after realizing people liked Hal more than John.
However this arguably isnt as much a matter of "people liked Hal more than John" as its a repeat of what has happened every time Hal has taken a back seat in the comics.
Hal fans being mad that he's not getting enough attention.
Granted, most GL fans are Hal fans. So probably both true. Its to be expected to an extent when you shift focus away, let alone change aspects of his character negatively.
I just dont think the showrunner expected that.

Enjoyed or not, Lanterns had a good discussion going doing it's run. Then it ended. Rhen these people popped up like a YouTuber feed them the cliff notes. I unsub/recommend less to every single lantern & DC sub. All of them. Now look..
This post makes 0 sense. Wonder Woman is treated more like DC's greatest brownie points mascot, more so than a pop culture Icon.

As a WW fan, I really want to feel bad for Hal fans but in my head I’m always like: “I grew up with John Stewart so I don’t care that much.” I try my hardest to feel for y’all 😭

But you never read a Green Lantern comic? Cause sure you grew up with the DCAU, but there ain’t much John Stewart comics out there lol.

Yeah I have. I just grew up with John. Once I got into comics I was a little older then. What’s done is already done. I still like Hal. I just was exposed to John first

So was I but idk, never really registered as important to me. He was pretty much the weakest character for me besides MM, now that I’m older idk what was I thinking that MM was boring, he’s so interesting, just heavily sidelined…but my view on John only got worse with age.

For me, he was the only black superhero that I really knew as a very little kid outside of Storm and maybe Static. So he probably stood out to me more for that reason. As a kid, I mean

John has been pretty consistently in Green Lantern comics in recent years, he was basically the main character for a while. He also appears more frequently in JL comics (though this is likely due to Hal generally being in his own book).

Where?! Hal is always leading the GL run (with some rare exceptions of Kyle) while John gets to share the GLC run with Guy and other less prominent Human GLs, and that’s sharing the spotlight not actually being the protagonist.
Yeah appearing in more JL comics is not helping the ensemble character problem. John has not managed to hold a solo run in forever, he was only the main GL in the 80s for 19 issues before needing to bring back Hal cause sales plummeted. Mosaic and War Journal are basically the only real John Stewart runs, which were like 4&12 issues respectively.

Hal, DC will never treat you right. Since the beginning they’ve had you tripping over bars of soap, telling supervillains to go get a good nights rest and not be evil, lose to the Shark because of a newspaper, accidentally take shrooms, say you don’t even know what will is, get slapped around by Ollie, be broke, have a dui, sleep with an underage girl, kill the green lantern corps, fly through a yellow sign, get hurt by invisible yellow shields, and so many other wonderfully awful things. Meanwhile, Diana has a chance. So do leave her alone.

Lanterns had a show.
Wonder Woman had...no show since...when? The 70s?
