Season Ranking out of 138 Teams
Total Offense: 131
Scoring Offense: 135
Passing Offense: 132
Rushing Offense: 83
3rd Down Conversion Percentage: 111
Red Zone Offense: 120
Turnovers Lost: 118
Offense has been an issue for quite a while, but this season seems worse than normal. Historically, the offensive line has been good enough to at least run the ball on other teams even if passing was spotty. The consistency there is seemingly gone though, and I feel like the rushing yards is skewed by quarterback scrambles. The offensive struggles are compounded by the fact that coaches and players leave for other destinations and have success. Tim Polasek and Brent Vigen were dogged as OCs but are both doing great after leaving to take over other programs. Kaden Anderson dropped down to FCS but is doing well (62.6%/1345 YD/12 TD/0 INT) with his team being 5-0. Chris Durr, Jr. transferred up to the P4 at Maryland and is their leading receiver (42 REC/461 YD/4 TD) through 5 games. That stat line pretty much matches his best season at Wyoming before reaching the halfway point of this year.
There are only 6 teams ranked lower in passing offense: UTEP, Navy, Air Force, Army, Rice, and Central Michigan. With the exception of UTEP, all are much better at running the ball. The service academies are all Top 5, Rice is 11th (would probably be higher if they hadn't played Notre Dame), and Central Michigan is 34th. All are option-oriented offenses. I've only been a fan for about seven years, but the conventional/pro-style offense that's been run during that timeframe just doesn't seem to be the answer. I think going to some extreme and having an unconventional offense that teams don't see every week is probably the only answer. Running the option is probably the most obvious answer, but I guess going the other way and throwing the ball 60 times/game could be an answer too, although less fitting for Laramie's weather. Anyone else have a thought on what should/could be done to have a productive offense? What was the most successful offense you've seen as a Wyoming fan and what do you think made it work?

We got NDSU on deck as the first game of what I hope to be a fruitful rivalry.
However it is pretty obvious than even though they're brand new to FBS, they are in far better shape than Sawvell's Cowboys.
The common link between these two schools is interestingly Craig Bohl.
I am reflecting a lot on his 10 years. Some of those years were some of the best we have had. Plus the closest to ever winning the conference and Josh Allen.
But, and I feel bad saying so, I'm really disappointed in his handpicked succesion staff. These are the worst Wyo teams I've ever seen, except for maybe Bohl's 2nd year (2015).
I bought in to his rhetoric of transforming Wyoming into a contender and place people want to play at, but that's clearly not happened.
I feel there was at least a fighter's chance with Joe Glenn and Dave Christensen.
Jay Sawvel and whatever leftovers came from the Bohl era have made this program look like they would struggle in FCS, much less compete for a bowl game again.
Thoughts?

Hear me out. This team is not performing this year. At all. We all know it. We know who is at least partly - likely the majority to blame. But don’t weird things happen? Isn’t this just the perfect setup for something weird to happen? We’ll see. I’m not holding my breath. But if there was ever a setup for an upset that required no skill or ability and just good old dumb luck, this might be it.

Wyoming now has four traveling trophies:
The Bronze Boot: Contested in the Border War against Colorado State University. It features an actual combat boot worn in the Vietnam War by a CSU ROTC graduate. Each year, ROTC detachments run the game ball to the state border on US-287 before handing it off.
The Bridger Rifle: Contested in Bridger's Battle against Utah State University. Introduced in 2013, the traveling trophy is a .50 caliber Rocky Mountain Hawken rifle named after legendary frontiersman Jim Bridger, who has deep ties to both states.
The Paniolo Trophy: Contested against the University of Hawai'i. "Paniolo" is the Hawaiian word for cowboy. The trophy features a bronze cowboy on horseback throwing a lariat, honoring the shared agricultural and cowboy heritages of Wyoming and Hawai'i.
The Battle of the Basins Trophy: Contested against North Dakota State University. Introduced in September 2026, this petroleum-industry-themed trophy features a wooden base with both school logos and an authentic oil field drill bit mounted on top.
All we need now is to start one with Air Force!

What are the chances of Wyoming picking up one of the many stellar QBs that have already entered the Transfer portal? We have a great O line… just need a competent man at the helm. Swen is obviously a devastating loss to the ground game… but RBs can be replaced. We seem to have more issues filling the QB position. Thoughts?
