Jamming to the Sneaker Pimps tonight, still great 30 years later.
I had a great friend in high school that used to buy cd's just based on unusual band names. One time, we went to the mall, and he bought Sneaker Pimps - Becoming X. We both really were taken by the album, and it was something we played whenever we drove around and smoked weed.
I found out that he's had some recent health issues, and from what I understand, he's in a coma and the outlook isn't very postive. Playing this one tonight and thinking about some of our youthful adventures.

Definitely used to put six underground on my “driving around with friends smoking up” mixed cds. You mentioning that brought back a flood of nostalgia.
I’ll be burning one and thinking about old friends tonight, in honor of yours.

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend, he sounds like he was fun to hang out with. Here’s to hoping for the best.
I love the Armand Van Helden remix of Spin Spin Sugar

The Sneaker Pimpa dropping Kelli Ali after the first album was the single largest dumb move they ever made. Her vocals elevated their good songs to great ones and saved the average songs from mediocrity.
Sending love and good vibes to you and your friend.

The Armand Van Helden remix of Spin Spin Sugar, is still the best of dirty garage house. Such a great track. At 2:45 when the bass drops…so dirty. So good.

Listen to Becoming Remixed if you haven’t already. There are some songs on it I like better than the album version. Specifically Walking Zero and Roll On.

I bought this album by mistake, thinking jt was their actual album, and I spun it endlessly. Imagine my surprise when I heard the real one. I felt pretty stupid, but I also liked the remix album better. The end.

I only had a burned copy from a torrent file that I later learned was actually a mix of the two and a remix from a single.
The proper version always seems off to me as a result

I got a job in a head shop in 1996 aged 16 and worked there on and off until finishing uni in 2003. Luckiest kid in the world. This album was on at least twice a day for the first couple of years I worked there and immediately transports me back to that exact time and place. Man I was lucky.

The mid 90's Trip Hop genre was outstanding. Tricky, Massive Attack, Sneaker Pimps, Portishead, UNKLE, DJ Shadow...
I had a college radio show on Friday nights where I'd play a lot of songs from these bands and others like them.
