Discussion Wholesaler yarn
I do not have a business. Nor am I planning to get one.
But I want the wholesaler price of yarn ðŸ˜
How can I do that? Can I just sign up as a business and buy it?
I just signed up for this but I’m scared that if I buy the yarn they’ll start expecting back something.
Overall idrk how this works. Pls help. $16 for 100g of cotton yarn is ridiculous.

The reason wholesale prices are set the way they are is because retail businesses buy the yarn at scale. It works for wholesalers to sell at that price because they are selling 100+ balls of yarn at a time and they don't have to staff for retail operations. Wholesalers would go out of business if all the individual customers got the wholesale price.

Unfortunately it does not work like that, I can only speak for the netherlands but in order to buy whole sale you need to have registered with the government as a bussiness. The price shown will be without tax and they usually have a minimum order amount of several hundred euro.

This is why most businesses have a high minimum on first wholesale orders.
$16 might seem high to you but that’s because we’ve been taught that items were buy are disposable and textiles are made of plastic.

The answer you are looking for is Colourmart, and they ship anywhere in the world.

In order to even set up an account with wholesalers in the US, they will require your Employer Identification Number (EIN). It’s assigned by the government for tax purposes when you establish a business. They won’t let you buy first and then ask for that info later.
Agree that looking through Ravelry stashes, Reddit destash groups, and thrifting websites is a way better way to go.

As a owner of a yarn shop, most beginning orders are over a thousand. Faire requires a business license and it's hard to find small amounts to purchase. We use faire for some of our products.
Berroco and KFI/Euro yarns does bulk drop ship to customers. I am not sure if they discount the pricing though.
Your best bet would be to find a local yarn shop. We offer a 15% discount on bulk orders which would be a bag of yarn (typically comes in a 6 to 10 pack, depending on brand, type, and size).

the faire thing is more for actual shops, they'll probably just cancel your order if you don't have a business license on file. some wholesalers don't really check though, it's kind of a crapshoot
you might have better luck with destash groups on ravelry or facebook, people unload full sweater quantities for way under retail
