Winder designs
I'm planning on making my GF a winder and swift set for Christmas, and after researching the best winders on the market, I've seen the hands-down winner appears to be the Stanwood winder.
My questions:
- What makes the Stanwood the best?
- How is the tension on the cake/ball controlled?
- What changes would you make, if any?

The Stanwood is just built like a tank compared to most of the plastic junk out there. Tension is mostly controlled by how you guide the yarn with your hand before it hits the winder, the mechanism itself is smooth enough that you dont get those annoying tight spots if you feed it right
Only change I'd make is putting some rubber feet on the clamp base, it can slide a bit on a glossy desk
