Question Driving through Yukon

We are driving from Haines to Homer starting October 18. Any tips and advice on driving that route (Haines-Haines Junction-Tok-Palmer-Homer) around that time? I assume there will be snow and ice already on the road? We have driven it before in summer but never this late in the season.

Depends I’ve seen Halloween’s with and without. Given the distance I would assume that there will be snow for at least some parts of the trip. Tires are important, make sure you have good winter tires.

Thank you. Yes, getting brand new snow tires put on tomorrow actually.

I would also be prepared with enough warm stuff, and other emergency items to potentially spend a night in the car or outside. Sounds a little crazy, but people have straight up burned their cars to stay warm while stuck out on the highway.

Yes we will have that since we are moving and bringing some stuff with us.

In the last 10 years I can only think of one halloween where snow wasnt on the ground. It was snowing around Mary Lake this evening.
