Superstore Rant

Why is there a giant bulk candy display right at the entrance?! 😩

My toddler fixates on it the second we walk in and then asks for a piece of candy for literally the entire time we’re shopping. Cue the whining and crying when I say no.
Do I just give him a piece every time we go?

It honestly makes me not even want to go to Superstore anymore.

Its there to cause exactly what you're experiencing and they would like you to give your child a piece everytime....however for you its an opportunity to teach your child they cannot have what they want when they want all the time...and that will involve some whining and crying that will get less and less in time...and eventually go away...unless you give in

That's it. That's why.

The reason is there so parents like yourself will buy candy to stop the whinging.

Yes. That’s why it’s there. They want you to buy things. Their business model relies upon people buying things.

The amount of people I watch just walk and take a few pieces of candy before their shop is crazy.

You mean they take it and don't pay? I looked there once and it's ridic expensive, so that was the end of it for me. Now it's just garbage and of no interest.

Do the survey on the back of your receipt and tell them this.

You answered your own question. And it sounds like you're teaching your kid to accept they can't always get what they want. Good for you

Theres always gonna be candy within a toddlers reach.

The only solution is to control your child. Teach them the only things theyre allowed to touch is the shopping cart and mommy's hand. Whining will result in punishment.

Wow. Do you not hear yourself? Who is doing the whining now? Be the adult. This should be on a parenting sub, not a city one.

Well this store is in this city so I don’t see why it’s a big deal if I posted it here. Not all cities have the same setup

Now that you know why, you should tell Superstore it's a pain in the ass and it shouldn't be there. It's rather cruel to force everyone, not just with kids but sugar addicts, to walk past that garbage just to enter the store. Maybe you can also cheat and go around to customer service and then ask the self-checkout epople to let you in, or just wave your hand around the low trigger thing on the inside of the post, and just go in that way. If anyone asks, explain why. But I'm ornery and like to make a point so I'd be totally comfortable doing that if I had a screaming toddler hazard. Of course you have to teach your kid, as others say, but I can only imaging grocery shopping with a toddler is challenging enough without having it start that way. Good luck!

My main complaint about the new entrance area is that there's too much blocking the way. The cosmetics shelves are at a stupid angle, they put a huge floral display in the middle of the through way, there are too many clothing racks, and the big produce bins are there too. They crammed SO MUCH into that small area that you can barely get into the store and past people who stop.

And it deters the grab and go shoplifting that plagued grocery stores for decades...i eemmebr working at overwaitea and guys would fill up a cart with 100s of dollars of meat and bee line it while a couple of managers would chase em

Isn't that what the multiple gates are for

It actually all works together to slow em down before they get to the gates which are easy to hop over....very little in a modern grocery store is haphazardly laid out its all very carefully planned its very neat and scarey how manipulative they try to be

I don't really care if it's meant to deter stealing. It's a pain in the ass. And I've worked in grocery too and done marketing - I understand that it's intentional. That's the part that pisses me off most.
