Everybody is doing this now, nice. kinda interesting how a log of big deepmind people got poached by anthropic and they are now doubling down on this focus. Alphafold was such a huge breakthrough though

Incoming angry wave of cancer researchers with big fat wallets;

In 3, 2, 1.

Soon we will find out who is actually interested in a cure, and who was just sitting back collecting donations.

I feel like most of the research Google and other labs are doing right now will be completely blown out of the water once RSI takes hold and AI is automatically designing and performing its own experiments, building the labs and equipment itself when needed.

Demis and his team seem very eager to start making big science advances right now with the existing transformer/LLM tech in its half-developed state, but I personally believe they’re jumping the gun just a little bit too early here, given how mistaken they were about the pace of recent progress.

Interesting thought, however this taked for granted that LLMs will continue to hyperscale, and when it comes to an illness such as cancer I really dont like the idea of not applying whatever means necessary. I personally agree with you though, I know cancer scientists and their current method of working is extremely slow. Those I know personally are against AI usage so I cant wait for AI to replace them tbh.

It’s certainly possible that LLM’s will hit some unforeseen wall before they can be scaled to RSI levels, but the window for such a wall to appear is getting smaller by the day. I think this was the gamble Demis chose to take with his team, and Sergei Brin’s personal intervention is the only reason Google still remains competitive in the race to AGI.

RSI is already here and being used internally in the AI frontier. When 90% of an AI's code is written by the AI itself and the bottleneck, a human reviewing the code, is thrown out the window, we've reached the recursive window.
