found on Instagram Why does the way she dress impact that Mormon Woman?

u/Thoukudides 13d ago
They make AI pictures telling islam gonna force every woman to put a veil, then do that kind of crap... What's the difference then ? I don't see any.
115
u/Electronic-Bison6549 13d ago
Well, you see the difference is very clear. When they do it, it's bad because they're doing it. When we do it, it's good because we're doing it.

Fascism is about which group wields power. They're cool with the subjugation of women, they just want women to be controlled by WASP men, not another group they view as lessers.
If they thought fundamentalist Muslims were an important part of achieving their goals they would happily team up. That's what we're seeing with the desperate attempts by the far right to court Catholics, a group American conservatives traditionally and presently despise.

But theyâre telling women what to do in order to keep them âsafeâ.
Totally different.

u/Adventurous_Gas_3257 13d ago
I actually have a theory that Christian men are currently feeling emasculated by Muslim men. Masculinity is often expressed by having power over women. Right-wingers have a lot of the same views as conservative Muslims - which includes the idea of "honour", "chastity", "virginity" etc for "their" women.
My theory is that by veilling women, obsessing over body count, saying women can't have college education or jobs etc they are trying to prove they're just as masculine as the image of Muslim men they created in their mind and they secretly admire.
In fact, I'm convinced that this is why many young right-wing men are converting to Catholicism and immediately try to make it even more patriarchal.

u/Ok_Star_4136 13d ago
The difference is one is the religion that's foreign and strange while the other is their religion. That's it.
It's just veiled bigotry.
21
u/chiree 13d ago
I do love the irony of some governments banning certain religious dress in order to save women from men telling them what to wear... by men telling them what they can't wear.
I think I see pattern here.

Whoever prompted this video also doesnât understand modestyâ the woman wearing modest clothing isnât acting modest! Â Sheâs going out of her way to say sheâs better than the woman wearing the short skirt!
Lecturing someone that the way you dress is superior, and the way they dress is bad, is not modest. Â It is religious pride, pure and simple.
For someone genuinely religious who truly does value modesty, the woman in red should not be an example to anyone. Â Sheâs a busy-body braggart. Â Sheâs the kind of brat Jesus complained aboutâ fake religious people who care more about the outward show of religion than about caring for the poor and sick. Â Â

Spot on. The arrogance is amazing. Arrogant religious pride is actually hatefullness masquerading as caring.

Itâs also making a big ass assumption that a wife dressing sexy in summer attire is somehow âdisrespectfulâ to the husband. Thatâs some incel religious nutter talk.

u/badgersonice 13d ago
Oh for sure!
I just think the irony is particularly funny. Â Like, within the communities that want more modesty, her behavior is truly immodest.
And further, youâre right:  in the cultures and incel collectives that believe itâs âdisrespectfulâ to a man for a woman to wear sexy clothes in public⊠well, they also donât want women to speak confidently in public or take a leadership role either.  They want their women silent, cowed,  obedient, and in the kitchen, not out speaking up and challenging people in public.  They view femininity as being submissiveâ they hate the kind of woman who would speak to a stranger in public and express a strong opinion.  A good wife, in their view, is one whose only words are âyes dear!â.

The problem is it doesnât matter what you are wearing. You can and likely will still get raped if the wrong person decides they are going to. Dress location might mitigate that possibility but it doesnât stop a rapist by dressing differently or staying away from common areas where those things tend to happen more.
3
u/badgersonice 13d ago
Did you respond to the wrong comment? I have never once claimed that how you dress makes a difference in rape. Â There is no magic dress code that prevents rape. Â Fucking ever.
So can you please quote what it is in my comment that inspired you to respond the way you did to what I said?  You said you have a problem with my comment⊠so what specifically did I say that you think is the problem?
Or is yours just a rando bot response?

Is she supposed to resemble a mormon?
I highly doubt the mormon lady would even talk to you for more than 2 seconds let alone give you a lecture. They are a very inward community m.
15
u/MissMarchpane 13d ago
No, Mormons look like Malibu Barbie but with slightly less revealing clothing. At least the mainstream ones do. This woman is some kind of a weird amalgamation maybe based on the Amish or the Mennonites, but only very loosely?

Mormons are an inward community? They proselytize on the subway in my city all the time, their whole thing is sending young people on evangelical "missions", this would be very in character for a Mormon.

I mean dialogue wise, which is over the top and all, yeah generally so, but the skirt and blouse isn't really in the wheelhouse and the hair fabric would be extremely uncommon.
Furthermore, Mormons most commonly police themselves and judge others vicariously from a distance due to Scandinavian nicety culture that came with the immigration, at least in the bubble. It's a very judgy culture, but mostly passively aggressively so.
Randomly calling her Mormon is, and I say this as a brethren-critical atheist formon, a bit odd.

She looks like she's dressed in more Mennonite garb than anything. I live near an area with a lot of Mormons, and they do not dress like that.
I think you might be thinking of the Amish and Mennonites. They are pretty closed communities that just ignore outsiders they don't approve of.

Honestly, I donât even know. Â Like, I donât recognize the specific head covering. Â Could be Amish or Mennonite or Quiverful or I dunno?Â
But youâre right, theyâre most fairly insular. And they donât usually want âtheir womenâ out socializing with strangers. Â Â
Although Mormons have to do some kind of mission evangelism thing I think ⊠but it might be only the men?

3
u/Arcoon_Effox 13d ago
Yeah, everyone knows that Mormons would never overtly say that sort of thing to some stranger they see on the street. They're trained from infancy to be way more passive-aggressive than that.
No, no; they'd silently judge the lady and think all of those things to themselves, and then maybe gossip about it at the next Relief Society meeting, but they'd never say it out loud in public.

Funny how i find women in red more attractive, yet her personality is gigantic turn off. The "sexy" lady seems like open minded fun person, with clear logic why she wear open clothes. Being confident is sexy in its own.

u/Low-Tough-3743 13d ago
I dress pretty modestly, baggy jeans, oversized t-shirts and men's flannel. It hasn't stopped men from paying me unwanted attention though. I've gotten everything from musing about what's hidden underneath, to expressions of disappointment because "I should be in a sundress" (what's with men's obsession with sundresses?) to disgust for my complete disregard of femininity. It doesn't matter what I wear, they will always have something to say about it.Â

Hah! A few weeks ago I was literally sitting on a park bench, head in my hands, trying to process the news that my father has fronto temporal dementia. Just the picture of abject misery and thousand yard stare.Â
A guy comes up to me from a whole pack of straight men in their twenties and goes âHey baby girl! Come have fun with us!âÂ
I donât even look at him or anything, and he continues to pester me until he leaves but afterward I had a little chuckle. Like you can always count on men to be men. It never even crosses their minds that a woman could have a whole internal life, instead of springing up when prompted like a video game npc.
7
u/TheUndeadBake 13d ago
Oh god especially if youâve even got big chunky headphones on + look miserable. Like hmmmmmmmmm maybe this person wants to not interact? Naaaaah
16
u/IhasCandies 13d ago
In my experience in the real world, women that dress down/more âmodestlyâ are harassed far more than women that are scantily clad. Men are intimidated by women being scantily clad, but they perceive weakness and exploitability in a modestly dressed woman.
7
u/Old-Wolverine-3407 13d ago
How many times we need to explain that it's their fault and not really ours?
7
u/Gravyboat44 13d ago
My old job uniform from when I worked at a gas station used to be a baggy, bright green polo top, stretched out from use and probably covered in a couple splotches of soda or something. I never wore makeup, always had my hair back in a low pony tail, and wore basic straight pants that always had dirt from the floor on them.
Besides all the basic complements, I can off the top of my head remember the time a local man asked if I had a boyfriend and asked if I could ever cheat on him. When I said no, he asked "why not, it could be fun". And when I turned him down again he later payed with a dollar that said "fuck off bitch" in bright green lettering (still don't know if it was coincidental or not)
Then I can also tell you about the two other times, wedding ring on finger that I got asked out, explained that I was married, and got the response "So?".
8
u/RosebushRaven 13d ago
whatâs with menâs obsession with sundresses?
Easy access.
6
u/ScarletBothrium 13d ago
Thatâs the short of it. I saw a video of a guy talking about sundresses in the most romanticized way and Iâm like thatâs a really long-winded way to say easy access.
5
u/Iamakitestring 13d ago
For strangers the sundress comment is seriously gross. I asked my bf once, he likes em too, he said it's because he thinks you typically wouldn't wear underwear with them and it's "easy access" where you could just lift the dress and lower it and no one would know.
FYI this was a lewd conversation we had together involving the two of us, he would never perve on women and is actually shocked when his sister or I talk in front of him about what we deal with. He's very supportive. This was just his thinking about me and I figured it makes sense for tbe obsession as a whole.

Men who are catcalling won't dissapear simply because you wear something "modest". All they want is to have power over someone they deem weaker and vulnerable. You can wrap yourself in burqa and still risk sexual harassment because clothes don't matter to such people
23
u/talkmemetome 13d ago
At first it's the boobs, then it's the ankles, then it's the shape, then it's the eyes, then it's the mere presence, then it's the knowledge of the existence of a woman's body. They are in every religion, in every culture.
9
u/DoorSweet6099 13d ago
I was thinking that dressing as modestly as this Christian woman in this video can draw all sorts of unwanted attention. Modesty can also be read as weakness in some sexual predators minds.

9
u/saigon2010 13d ago
I watched a YouTube video recently where this woman made 4 profiles on one of the dating apps, each with custom photos to portray 4 different women, and the "traditional girl" by a long shot got the creepiest, most misogynistic messages out of any of them
11
u/wasraelx 13d ago edited 13d ago
It just fully depends on the area.
I used to get catcalled as a hijabi as much as I do without. At 17 the same amount as at 27.
Which demographic of women gets harassed the most depends completely on where in the world you are. Conservative men hate that they want to fuck you and youd never speak to them. Modest women get harassed because men canât stand that they choose not to show their body, and many assume theyâll be easier to groom.
Quite simply, the problem isnât women and what we wear.

Why are Conservative Christians always fear mongering about Muslims and sharia? If anything a lot of Christians would probably agree with a lot of the sharia laws, they use the same rhetoric and logic. If sharia didn't have a connection to Islam a lot of Christians would embrace it

6

This doesn't look like it's the 1800s, even. It looks like maybe an outfit from anytime between the 1970s and the present. This is one of the worst aspects of generative AI.
Bigots and reactionaries irrationally fear all sorts of things and people, and now they can generate AI videos illustrating their delusions in videos that (for a certain subset of the population) are indistinguishable from reality. Like at the very least they used to have to contend with the fact that there was no evidence for their delusions. Now they can make their fantasies "real" (again, only for a certain subset who are gullible/dumb/old enough, for now)

I will say, that woman isn't Mormon necessarily. She's not really anything in particular; I think they're going for an amalgamation of different very conservative Christian sects like Amish or Mennonite and coming out with a result that's basically none of the above. If she were mainstream Mormon, she would have a fake tan, bleached hair, tons of fillers, and she would be wearing the skimpiest thing she could get away with while still covering her religious underwear.
As for the actual point of the video⊠As someone who wears pretty much exclusively long sleeves and long skirts (not for religious reasons; I just prefer them), I can say that you get cat called no matter what you're wearing. Because it's not about anything the victim does or doesn't do; it's about control and shitty men trying to assert dominance.

And then the crude, un-modest woman went on to think deeply about her actions and how she presents herself, and went right to the shop and bought herself a new wardrobe much less like that of a common street harlot, and much more like that of a well put-together housewife. And almost immediately she caught the eye of a lovely gentleman, who respectfully courted her heart for many moons, before she happily settled down, had a big, traditional wedding, and had 6 beautiful children. She now goes around telling other women how fulfilled and happy she is now that she has discovered a woman's true calling as caregiver to her faithful husband and amazing children.
...nah just kidding. She called the "more modest" woman a bitch and went on about her day.

As if conventionally attractive women don't get unwanted attention regardless of what they're wearing, and as if men shouldn't fucking control themselves instead.

None of her damn business. People should be able to walk around naked and not be assaulted. I'm not suggesting people do that but blaming the victim is narcissism.

The likelihood that the person that generated/made this hates Muslims (and by proxy make fun of how the women are treated) is about 99.99999%

Sheâs not Mormon. I mean I know she doesnât exist, but this isnât Mormon culture.
She might be Orthodox Jewish. But, either way, there is no way they would call someone out like this, and are fairly unlikely to care that much.

So a white Mormon woman dress like that its modesty. And woman should follow. However if a Muslim woman dress like that, she is oppressed, they trying to convert or invade, and all the other bullshit. Really, Democrat or Republican, both are shit.

Do you see the correlation between covering up to not temp men and excusing rape?

I get catcalled and followed a whole lot more dressed covered up vs the few times I wore shorts or a short skirt.

If my husband thinks he has to ALLOW me to go outside in a certain outfit he clearly has no respect for me at all and he will no longer be my husband.

lmao where i grew up we had an Amish community near by and men would catcall the Amish women when they'd walk/ride through. What a load of bullshit. Creepy men will catcall any woman regardless of how they dress.

The âmodestâ girl draws more attention dressing up like a rural amish person in a very urban environment.

Why is the Mormon woman in the city and off her cloister, or compound, or whatever they call it?

u/rai_ash786 13d ago
okay i'm saying this as a girl who was covered up in a denim jacket over a shirt and wearing full pants at 12 years old and i STILL got catcalled and whistled at by some older guys at my middle school.
a man totally prompted this to the AI.

Most women know it literally doesn't matter what you wear. Creepy men will still creep. I was 14 and running in athletic wear meant for a girl my age, and I still got catcalled, and I literally ran home as fast as possible in tears, in fear.
Cis women, trans women, Muslim women, Christian women, female sex workers, older women, underage girls, etc. all experience harassment because creepy men target anyone they perceive as female, regardless of how covered up or not that woman or girl is.

Does a man also have to dress like heâs in a wagon train headed to the undrinkable waters of the Great Salt Lake?

Thats not a mormon, shes is a handmaid from handmaid's tale. Shes the victim in this situation. She is a prisoner, whats worse is that she doesnt know that she is a prisoner, she even defends the tactics that are used to imprison her.
