Discussion New driver’s license without dinosaur ): anyone else wanna join me in being a single issue voter on this matter?

Just got my new license and it has a stupid oil thing instead of a dinosaur! NDP, liberals, whomever has my full support if they reverse this change when they get into power! Also, they weirdly stretched the photo and in general the card is more flimsy and looks cluttered and bad. Is nothing sacred to the UCP??

General Save on Foods Information Leak

I got an email tonight stating that the Save on Foods loyalty card (More Rewards) had unauthorized activity on their servers October 13th. Name, physical address, DOB, phone number and email was accessed. Passwords, credit card information and transaction history were not breached.

I wanted to let other people know in case others’ information was stolen and they not notice the email.

General McDougall Auctions used by Harvard Media Auctions has been compromised

If you've ever used McDougall Auctions, who was the auction software provider for Harvard Media Auctions provided by Hot 107/Cruz FM a few years ago, their site and your information has been completely compromised. Hackers stole their entire database including passwords and any credit information. Of course, McDougall Auctions hasn't notified anyone. Go change your PW and delete any credit card info ASAP.

I know the hosts at Hot 107/Cruz FM check Reddit for ideas so I hope they spread the awareness.

Discussion Beyond infills and urban sprawl: What does a real "material foundation" for housing look like in Alberta?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,
With the ongoing debate around local zoning changes, provincial infrastructure funding, and housing affordability across Alberta, I’ve been digging into what long-term policy actually requires if we want sustainable regional growth.
It feels like most political discussions get trapped in a false binary: either endless suburban sprawl that strains municipal budgets, or crammed infills that strain existing neighborhood infrastructure without lowering costs.

If we look at what a true "material foundation" for Alberta's future looks like, a few core priorities stand out:

1. Building Beyond Traditional Single-Family Sprawl & Quick Infills: Modern, high-efficiency mass-timber density and medium-density development (like Berlin or Paris style 4–6 story blocks) create walkable communities without bankrupting municipal infrastructure maintenance down the road.

2. Integrating Transit Early Instead of Retrofitting Later: Regional transit connections and rapid transit corridors shouldn't be an afterthought once a neighborhood is built—they need to be laid down with the housing.

3. Local Supply Chains & Green Tech: Leveraging Alberta-sourced building materials and green technology keeps capital local and makes homes cheaper to heat during cold-climate winters.

We talk a lot about market rates and interest rates, but without planning the actual physical and regional infrastructure, we're just reacting to growth instead of guiding it.

I'm curious what people here think:
What do you see as the biggest physical bottleneck holding back genuine affordability and livability in your municipality? Is it zoning laws, lack of transit integration, or something else entirely?

(Note: I wrote a longer breakdown on this framework for my publication, The Alberta Standard. Link is down in the comments for anyone interested in reading more!)

Question Error message on mail-in ballot link. Anyone else? What do I do?

Edit: if anyone needs to call the phone number is 1.877.672.1365. I talked with someone right away and they verified my ballot was accepted. Thanks for the help!

I got my mail-in ballot, filled it out and brought it to the post office several weeks ago. When I went to the Elections Alberta email that gave me the conference code, I clicked on the link to check the status. I got an error message saying no account exists with that confirmation code and my last name. Does that mean my mail-in ballot is lost? Do I have to go vote in-person now?

Separatism Why isn't anyone talking about the other 9 questions?!

Non-albertan here but I have lots of family that live and work in alberta. I've been hearing a lot about the referendum but it seems to focus heavily on the single question to separate (which isn't even really a separation question, but a question ask if there should be a binding referendum).

I decided to educate myself and went to the elections Alberta site to read the questions as they will be presented and the OCs that approved the referendum and questions. All 9 other questions seem scarier to me that the big 1. They are attempting to take more control from the federal government and blatantly creating a classist system for different categories of people. WTF?! is this the Canadian way? It certainly isn't the Christian way (I'm not religious but recognize that many use religion to justify these kinds of actions).

Any one else feeling this way? And why haven't more national news outlets picked this up? Am I missing something?

Discussion Alberta healthcare.

Just been hearing a bunch of stuff on healthcare in Alberta being not very good. My auntie to get her hip replaced and she went private and paid $30k just to skip the waiting this as the list is miles long.

Is the healthcare there in shambles? Or am I missing something? Currently in BC at the moment and possibly looking to move back to AB.
