Discussion Thoughts on Final Exhibit

• Upvotes

Spoilers for what's in the maze if you want to go in blind :)

This is also in no way a critique of the scare actors, just the maze design. All the actors in all the mazes do incredible work.

Also also, this is not hate just to hate. I did really want to like this maze and am surprised that I didn't. I think all the other mazes in the park are incredible, and I'm excited to revisit this next year to see if it's improved.

Was I the only one actually really disappointed with this maze?

It has a really great concept and could have been incredible, but the way they executed it was very poor, in my opinion.

The scare actors you'll encounter the most at the start are these ghoulish office workers. They can be quite startling when they first pop out, but they don't particularly do anything after that.

In Mine Tours, the actors can get in your face and can be really freaky with like caressing your hair and face and saying super creepy stuff.

But, these workers don't particularly look creepy, and after they pop out, act like they're just working in a spooky office. Again, this isn't any hate to the actors they did incredible with what they were given. But what they were given is not great.

They do get in your face a bit and say stuff to you, but I'm assuming the direction they were given is 'pretend you're working a day in the office but your office kills people'.

It's just not a very scary thing to encounter.

You then go into these rooms full of boxes and artifacts, which were really cool to look at. You'll still encounter the office workers, but this is the bit where you'll start seeing the mascots. Which, despite being heavily marketed, there weren't a lot of.

There were some cool scenes of people being turned into mascots or put in exhibits, but only a few of these were actually scares.

The one bit of this maze that really got me and my sister was this hallway with a bunch of mascot suits, and we saw one at the end of the hallway lean over to scare the people in front. We relaxed because we'd seen which mascot was alive, but then one from the middle right at our side got us. It was a great concept with great execution and what more of the maze should have been.

Imagine how creepy it would be walking through this maze, not knowing which props or mascots are alive until they jump at you.

I think another problem with this maze that my sister pointed out is how spacious it is.

When someone jumps out for a scare, it's very easy to walk around them and put distance between you and the actor. In all the other mazes, you are forced to get up close and personal with all the actors because of how cramped a lot of the hallways are. You are at the actors' whim as the whether they're going to let you go past, but in this one, it would be so easy to just ignore the actors altogether.

It doesn't feel like a maze as much as a few connected corridors.

Am I being too cynical? I'm always aware of the fact that sometimes in scare mazes you just get a bad run, but I think that, even if I was right at the front and got all the scares, my opinion wouldn't change.

I would be very happy to hear from people who liked this maze, because I do want to like it, I just can't.

Anyone know, think, or have a good idea, to why Th13teen is closed for essential maintenance?

If you check it on the app, thats what its listed as. We all know Rita is probably getting the Hydraulics or Launch replaced atm, so thats explained. Th13teen isnt.

Any info is very appreciated

Surprised at the physicality of the scare mazes

I’ve done the scare mazes 3 years running now. This year, both Mine Tours and Compound were way more aggressive and Final Exhibit pretty full on too.

The actors seemed to have a running joke with my bald head, repeatedly stroking it, and also grabbing legs.

Final Exhibit had actors really boxing me in corners - I had to move out of the way for them, they certainly didn’t look like they were going to stop.

But Compound was the real surprise. I’ve heard things about Compound before but last year I had what felt like a tame and short experience. This year it was brutal. I had guys swinging me round by my jacket, shoving with considerable force, pushing into corners.

I did enjoy it for the most part, but I’m wondering I was singled out for particularly unusual experiences or if this is pretty standard for these mazes?

Fireworks

We are considering fireworks this year may go on some rides but puts cost at 126 for mostly watching fireworks. Is it worth the cost

Weather tomorrow

Me and my dad are going to Alton towers tomorrow and Wednesday as a Father’s Day gift planned months ago. However, we’ve seen that there’s a heavy storm forecasted for tomorrow (typical!) with heavy rain and winds expected in the area. Are we being stupid to still try go to the park and go on the big rides or are they all going to be closed? Also, do the rides have single rider queues?

Wicker Man: how many trains?

Any idea if Wicker Man is running on reduced trains today? It's been 75 minutes for the last few hours, and hasn't really come down all day. Just wondering if anyone's seen the ops today.

Confused about RAP?

So, we're going Friday, and I've just seen now you have to prebook for RAP? I wish I knew that, as we already have merlin passes, but never had to before. We just got added to virtual queues that were the same length as the physical one (i.e. wait 15 minutes and come back, or whatever).

I'm guessing there's nothing we can do, no one we can talk to on the day?

Change of travellers day?

I've seen people talking about how last weekend wasn't actually travellers day like expected and it will be next weekend. I have tickets for the sunday, however now I'm unsure if I should switch to another day.

I cannot go a weekday, I was thinking would Sunday 1st Nov be a quieter day to go? I've checked queuetimes, but would really appreciate some input from here too.

Thank you in advance :)

Nemesis Reborn denim jacket

Hey, does anybody know if the Nemesis Reborn (with the Reborn eye on the back) denim jacket is still available to buy at the park? I bought one off Vinted this weekend but the seller hasn’t been active in months so I don’t think it will be arriving sadly. Hoping I can get one picked up for me if they’re still available!

First time at Alton Towers coming up and I have mapped out a terrifying execution lineup. Am I going to flatline? 🎢

Hey everyone,

I’m heading to Alton Towers in a few days for a school trip, and it’s going to be my first time ever visiting the park.

I am someone who gets dangerously anxious before big rides. Back when I rode my second-ever coaster, my heart was hammering so fast I thought I was going into a full panic attack in the queue. But then the second it ended, I was completely hooked and obsessed.

I am a big boy standing at 6’1 and weighing about
23.5 stones. My only prior coaster experience was back in Kurdistan on that heavy, loud, rattling Chavi Land steel looping beast: a raw, terrifying machine that dragged us up a slow chain lift, dropped us straight down, and spun us through 4 aggressive inversions. I almost had a panic attack, but the second it ended, I was completely hooked

Since I'm trying to survive my first day at Alton Towers and pack it all in before we have to head back to the bus, I've put together a sequence that is currently giving me heart palpitations just looking at it.

Tell me if my soft heart is going to survive this order:

TH13TEEN (Stop 1): Starting at the back of the park in the Dark Forest because it's supposed to be the smart way to beat the morning queues. It looks smooth and chill,

Wicker Man (Stop 2)

Oblivion (Stop 3): here I am convinced my that I am really going to get scared (should I be?) .

Galactica (stop 4)

The Smiler or Nemesis Reborn (The Final Bosses):
The Smiler has a 90-degree vertical lift hill where you lie flat on your back staring straight up at the sky while a chain clicks you up to your doom, followed by 14 inversions and a mid-course brake run..

At 6’1” and 23.5 stones with a sensitive heart, I am terrified I'm going to have a heart attack, panic, or fall out on Oblivion's drop or The Smiler's 3-minute layout and 90-degree vertical lift: are those massive steel restraints actually secure enough to hold a big guy, or am I out of my mind for trying this?

Can my soft heart actually take all of this back-to-back before we have to bounce back? For anyone who gets massive queue-line dread, how do you keep your cool, and is this itinerary completely unhinged for a first-timer? Drop your advice below!

Family visiting tomorrow (Sun 18th)

I'm visiting tomorrow with my 4, 6 and 8 year old. We've booked tickets and a hotel, but have realised tonight that I've potentially picked a terrible date.

The kids have gone to sleep excited about their day tomorrow.

Is the water park fairly tame? Not too sure what to do

Follow Up

I posted yesterday about reliability. Gotta say, considering Scarefest is one of their biggest months, It wasn't the best day.

- Th13teen went down for two massive chunks of the day (including the final 1½ hours when it was dark). Maintenance were in no rush.

- Nemesis went down towards the end of the night (the last hour I think).

- Toxicator was on short cycles when we went over despite a 10min queue.

- Smiler had a chunk of downtime.

- Galactica had some downtime and its typical slow turnaround.

- Rita speaks for itself.

- My heart sank when Wicker Man stopped just after 7pm, but luckily it was just something minor (the fire effects I believe), and was running again after 15mins.

I love the place, and I'll keep going back, but there's so much that they need to do better, and I find it so hard to defend it sometimes.

what’s the best time to arrive at the park?

Hey, have a question about what time we should arrive if we wanna make the most out the day (we’re going on a wednesday)

We want to do the scare mazes when it’s dark but we also want to go as many rides as we can but not spend hours waiting around for it to get dark.

What time do y’all recommend going if you’re going in the mazes late?

Solo visit

So, my friends can’t go with me due to responsibilities and no free time. I really want one last ride on Nemesis and the like before the season is over, which means a solo visit for scarefest. Any advice please? I’m nervous and feel a bit weird for going on my own. Crazy, because I’ve travelled other countries on my own, happy to eat in restaurants on my own and other things

ScareFest attractions help.

Hello, I’m trying to book the scare fest attractions but the tickets on the website aren’t very helpful. The only options to book is Thrills Combi Early or Family Duo, but there’s no explanation of what the mean. Also, my son has an access card with the +1 symbol, will I still need to pay for 2 scare fest attraction tickets.. once I’ve figured out how to do it lol.

Any help with buying tickets would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Kelloggs promotion question.

This may seem like a silly question but I bought a ticket with the kelloggs offer but I don't have the recipe as proof of purchase. Has anyone ever had a member of staff ask to see the recipe or packaging?

Reliability

Reliability is so poor sometimes. These are the coasters running at the moment. I'm currently queueing for Th13teen and it's broken down after I'd already shuffled forward for 45mins. The ops announced after 15mins that Maintenance were still "on their way." Bit poor on what's turned out to be a peak day.

EDIT: The whole queue line has been emptied, with no estimate on reopening. Full hour lost.

First time to Alton Towers tomorrow. I am confused how Scare Fest works for staying in the park late.

I am going as a carer. The person I am going with and caring for is not interested in the mazes, they have bought the scare fest add on just because it is their birthday and they really want to go on the rides late at night.
Will I have to buy a £40 (ish) maze ticket just to be allowed to stay in the park to support them on the rides late at night? They are not allowed to go on rides alone and they must be supervised. The carer ticket i will be allocated is just a standard Day ticket I believe. Thanks very much.

Fast Pass offer

I have just got a Merlin Platinum pass and booked to go to Thorpe Park last Thursday. A few days before they sent me an email with an offer of 3 fast pass rides (any ride but only 1 on each) for £15. Do they ever do that for Alton Towers as I am there on Monday and Tuesday next week.

https://thorpepark.com/?promocode=TPCRM&utm_source=CRM&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=PTP_CTP_Trigger_PTP_Purchase_PreVisit_7Day_FrightNights_26_P_DYN_PTP_FN_WithoutMaze&utm_content=CTP_Trigger_PTP_Purchase_PreVisit_7Day_FrightNights_26_P_DYN&utm_id=1706219&sfmc_id=366814919

Edited to say I just changed thorpe park to altontowers and TPCRM to ATCRM and it worked. I will repost on Monday to let you know if the fast passes actually worked! It says any 3 fasttrack enabled rides.
