Discussion Legacy
I hate how people are so crazy about the concept of making a legacy. Really? Are you going to make a kid just for your own personal gain? For values that your child might not even align with? Why dont these people adopt? There are so many unwanted children. Why are you obsessed so much with what blood flows in a person? Grow the fuck up, find a shred of empathy and maybe give up one of your toxic "values" and be a better person. If you cant love a child unless it came from you then maybe you shouldnt have one at all you soulless joke of person

Whenever I have to sit down and get yapped to about a random ancestor I have nothing in common with, I zone out & think about what’s for lunch. That’s what these peoples grandkids will think of them, if their parents even bother to tell their stories

Yeah exactly. Like what do i care about a guy who i have nothing in common with except for blood ties. This is even more egregious in patriotism or historical claims on land etc. People make me feel like im insane when i mention that im not patriotic and i wouldnt fight for some bullshit values which i dont agree with just bc some guy a thousand years ago lived where i was born and said so. Who are you to me?

The legacy thing is absolutely ridiculous. Why the fuck would you care about what happens when you're dead?

Curious, has anyone ever heard a woman talk about her "legacy"? It's such a guy thing.

I feel legacy is a crutch for people who feel or know they are mediocre. And ego can't stand it.

I have yet to find any women who do I am so serious I believe it's a guy thing as well. If there are any women that do talk about legacy I'm curious on why they think that way it's pretty rare to find them

At the most. my legacy would be a tombstone over a grave I didn't want but hey if grass grows there let that, my legacy be lol. Fuck procreation! Time to spin things down people.

I've toyed with the idea of a burial mound covered in gympi-gympi. With a small headstone warning people not to touch, and letting people know that material suffering could have been prevented through not imposing existence.

The fact that humanity went through the terrible burdens of eons of evolution, only to arrive at the year of the burden's ultimate sleekness and shine, 2026, and continue to use words this thoughtlessly and unwisely... Well, at least I can say that all that trouble of millions of years of toil and struggle of evolution to arrive here, was a waste.
99%+ of humans have no legacy to leave, because it is not one of those light words you can simply play around with in a context as serious as the disaster state of using important words incorrectly. Unless we're talking about the legacy of ever-expanding contradiction between humanity's papered ideals and the humbling, lumbering, heavier-than-a-billion-dump-trucks-of-dictators reality.

It's not hard to find those who did leave a legacy which had nothing to do with whether they had children or not.

That's probably not too far off from what many people think of when they use the word legacy as they do.
You may as well start calling yourself a billionaire to everyone you know, because you can always rationalize it by saying that there is always a chance to become a billionaire before you die, and calling yourself one right now keeps you motivated and the positive thoughts somehow increase the probability, no matter how tiny, that the billionaire's slippers will one day grace your feet, too. So, framing it this way, you are pretty much already a billionaire- and pretty much everyone else around you also is one. How awesome!
Imagine if people started calling their cars their bunny slippers- because supposedly when you get into your car in the winter, it keeps your feet warm.
Seems absurd, but the way people use many words as thoughtlessly as they do, we're not too far off from the above hypotheticals.

If I wasn’t born to one family I’d have been born to another so no reason to have any family loyalty or care to extend i when I had no say in what line I was born into.

Not a single one of these people who preach about legacy don't create a meaningful legacy in the first damn place

They even expect their kid's to treat them right once they become adult's, like why couldn't they just treat them right when they were padawan's, now they expect you to be a retirement policy for all of their lousy nuturing in all hope's of owning up to their so called legacy.

Who told you people make kids for their *personal* gain?
You make them for prosperity of our species. Any personal gain is just a side effect - a satisfaction of the work well done.
That said "work well done" also implies a good quality of new worker for species. If your kid ends up being criminal or drugie then instead of satisfaction you get sorrow - for failing to do your work.
Genes are probably only 30% of the result or even less with "raising properly" being the remaining part. Still whose blood flows IS important - how else would you know that you deserve a credit for your work and not some other dude?
It is especially bad if your kid ends up having bad quality and you blaming yourself when he is not even your kid in the first place and you end up missing these 30% or even 10% - not that rare nowadays.

It is personal bc it personally matters to you that the species "prospers". The rest im not even going to adress its just stupid to a point where i dont even know what i can say wed have to talk about the absolute fundamentals and i dont have time for that

So all you have time for is to complain that men are not ecstatic about kids who are not theirs? Well you did that. Now what?

u/pokpokpokuytff 1d ago
I dont know what you are talking about but anyways, If you make a child then you owe it everything, you are in no position to complain.

What legacy?
Name all your great-great grandparents. Bet, 90% won't be able to.
Legacy of lacking ethics, is what natalism amounts to.
(Birth) This crime by my father against me, I have committed against no one
