Why bother even responding? Delete and move on with life. BTW, it’s “peddling,” unless you’re on a bike.

Don't feed the AI. Block and move on.
The point at which the strange number asked for a step by step for using Google is the tip off that you aren't dealing with a person.

I just thought they were being a sarcastic asshole

Same tbh. It doesn’t really read like a bot to me, and the responses feel similar to how someone replies deliberately slowly to someone being obtuse and rude. Like one might when dealing with a Karen potential hire.

More likely a scammer than an AI but could be both. In either case, yes, block and move on with your life

If you suspect AI you could run a cheap program that continually responds with random text (not llm generated) and drive up their token cost, maybe try to get it to do stuff that will break it

For me the first clue was they didn’t get snarky and rude when they responded to “stop”

I’ll be honest, you kinda got cooked. You were pretty aggressive with typos and awkward phrases. When you just had the option to say “no thanks I’m not interested” and block

Bro is having an entire conversation with an AI bot and is trying to get Reddit points lol.

Bots don't respond with "K." It seemed like a person to me; just an odd, sarcastic asshole.

u/Blujay12 4h ago
Wtf else do you react with a "stop" instead of a real response lol. Like dude said, block and move on if you think it's a bot
•
u/CallyThePally 43m ago
It's crazy to think a bot wouldn't ever respond with "K"
It's trained on text messages. People said that as a response in its training data, it's that easy! I couldn't imagine ever thinking this was a human 😭😭

u/EpistemicThreat 40m ago
Not everything is a bot, and people have been demonstrated to be pretty piss poor at differentiating between bots and real people sometimes.
Hell, I now have to dumb down my replies sometimes because proper punctuation and the use of em dashes and semi-colons result in accusations of me being a bot. I wish this was just an isolated incident, but it's clear people are deep in their biases, and are terrible at recognizing what is and isn't a bot.

It was definitely a person.

Bots are a lot more sophisticated than you give them credit for. First thing you should ask is if they’re a state certified human.

Pedaling is generally reserved for bicycles.
Peddling is a word for selling things.

This is not the 'gotcha' you think it is OP. If anything, you made yourself look like a massive tool.

Don't even respond, just block spam bc any engagement confirms you're human to them.

u/AmbienWalrus-13 3h ago
Your mistake was interacting with the text at all... ignore/block. Don't even bother with "stop".

"I'm not interested." End the discussion.
You just seem like a dick.

He's talking to an AI bot or a scammer, likely both. How in the world does this person look like a dick?
1
u/xaradevir 3h ago
If you suspect a bot or scammer then you just ignore it entirely, the last thing you do is engage with it.
He's a dick for trying to be all snappy about it. And then fails at that, lol

i get that i'm wasting my one precious life commenting on reddit so i'm not really in a position to judge, but i don't get wasting any of your limited time on this earth to arguing with scammers and / or bots.

A lot of people here don’t know that recruiters are a real thing. It’s a real job. They get paid by companies to source potential employees and then the recruiters then get paid a percentage of the pay the company offers you. This is prob some poor guy just trying to do his job. You could have just said no thanks.
-2
u/kgreys 3h ago
I did. Multiple times. He was the third "recruiter" contacting me after I typed STOP to the first two numbers.
4
u/perfectlypyrrha 3h ago
I get the frustration if it’s multiple times. I’m just saying that a lot of people seem to think it’s AI or a bot, when it’s probably a real person. You might have to figure out where they are getting your resume from and take that down.

to be fair to OP not reading that this is a bot, all recruiters are no better than bots.

I don't think I could have made it that far without telling that bot to fucking hang itself 😑

Maybe I spend too much time on r/scams but the pushback reads like a scammer more than AI to me.
