New Subreddit Rules: Professional Boundaries & Ethics

1. No Requests for Free Design, Layouts, or Planning

The Rule: Posts asking for specific architectural solutions, floor plan layouts, or design "ideas" for real-world properties are strictly prohibited.

  • The "Why": Architecture is a regulated profession under R.A. 9266. Providing professional advice without a contract, site inspection, or administrative accountability is a violation of the Architect’s Code of Ethical Conduct. It undermines the value of the profession and constitutes "free consultation," which is unfair to practitioners who rely on these services for their livelihood.

2. No Technical "Quick Fixes" or Structural Advice

The Rule: Do not ask for technical specifications (e.g., column sizes, beam spans, material thickness, or waterproofing methods) for actual construction projects.

  • The "Why": Under the Civil Code of the Philippines, an Architect is liable for the structural integrity of a building for 15 years. Giving "quick advice" online without a full understanding of site conditions (soil type, seismic zone, etc.) is professional malpractice and a major safety risk to the public.

3. No "Ballpark" Estimates or Material Take-offs

The Rule: Requests for detailed cost estimates, Bills of Materials (BOM), or "How much will this cost to build?" for specific personal projects will be removed.

  • The "Why": Professional estimating is a paid service (SPP Doc 204-B). Prices vary wildly based on location, finishing, and current market inflation. Providing "rough numbers" often leads to misinformation and disputes between owners and their future contractors.

4. Academic vs. Professional Distinction

The Rule: Students: Conceptual feedback for school assignments is allowed. Please use the ACAEMIC INQUIRY flair.

  • Homeowners/Clients: Posts must focus on the process (e.g., "How do I find an architect?" or "What is the standard fee for a residential project?").
  • The "Why": We support the growth of future architects (students), but we will not allow the sub to be used as a loophole to bypass hiring a Registered and Licensed Architect (RLA) for private gain.

5. No Solicitation of Unlicensed Services

The Rule: Do not ask for "cheap" drawings or for someone to "just sign and seal" existing plans.

  • The "Why": Asking a professional to sign plans they did not prepare or supervise is a criminal offense and a ground for the revocation of their PRC license. We advocate for the "Architect-of-Record" principle to ensure accountability and public safety.

Moderators Note to Users

If you are a property owner looking for design help, we encourage you to hire a Registered and Licensed Architect (RLA). This ensures your investment is safe, legal, and functional. Architecture is a service that requires years of training, a professional license, and legal accountability.

Discussion Mod Announcement: About Post Removals and the Review Process

We’ve noticed more users messaging the mod team asking why their posts were removed or why they don’t appear immediately after posting. We’d like to clarify how our review system works.

All posts in this subreddit go through a combined manual and AutoMod review process. This means your post may be held temporarily while it’s being checked for rule compliance, proper flair, and relevance. Please allow the mod team a few hours after posting to manually review and approve it — especially during busy hours or weekends.

Posts may be removed or not approved for a number of reasons, including but not limited to:
1. Violation of subreddit or Reddit-wide rules (e.g., spam, harassment, off-topic content)
2. Repetitive or commonly asked topics — please use the search bar before posting
3. Missing or incorrect flair — all posts must have the proper flair before submission
4. Low-effort, meme-only, or joke posts that don’t contribute meaningfully to discussion
5. Image-only submissions without captions, explanations, or questions
6. Unverified, misleading, or clickbait information
7. Self-promotion, advertising, or survey links without prior mod approval
8. Posts flagged by AutoMod (for certain keywords, formatting, or link issues) — these are reviewed manually before approval

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. These measures help maintain the quality, relevance, and professionalism of discussions in our community.

Thank you for helping us keep this subreddit organized and informative for everyone!

The Mod Team

Rant/Opinion Mga ka-Arki what is your thoughts on this?

Post image

Saw this post on FB, but it was deleted. Maybe someone has already found it.

For me, with a 215 sqm lot size, let's say a conservative estimate of 70% buildable area, a 2-storey house, and ₱40k/sqm for standard finish only.

Estimated total construction price (TCP) would be around ₱12M. The industry standard rate is 10% for professional fees, which should be ₱1.2M, but the offer is only ₱100k–₱130k.

I mean, I understand that the economy isn't performing well, but for me, if you can't afford to have it designed, then don't start building yet. Save up first.

There is no way a decent architect will accept this offer, but you will be surprised that so many commented they are willing to help the OP. It's kind of discouraging because those architects are also the reason why our industry is no longer rewarding.

Your thoughts?

Discussion Need Advice Regarding UAP Membership

Hi, fellow architects!

I passed the ALE in January 2026 and paid for my IAPOA shortly after. However, I haven’t joined any UAP chapter yet. My membership status initially showed “Affiliation Process” on my IAPOA.

Recently, I checked my UAP account and realized that my initial payment was actually for the 2025–2026 membership year. Apparently, I need to pay another ₱600 for the 2026–2027 membership year.
The thing is, I still haven’t affiliated with any chapter because I’ve been busy working in the corporate world and haven’t had the chance to process my chapter membership.

I’d like to ask those who have gone through the same process:
Do I need to become a member of a UAP chapter first and pay the chapter membership fees before I can settle my national dues for 2026–2027? Or can I pay the national dues first and process my chapter affiliation afterward?

I’d appreciate any advice or clarification regarding the process. Thank you!

kasi sa threads na career shifting puro yan yung shift na nababanggit pero feel ko adjacent padin lahat yan sa arki ahu

speak up into the mic 🎤 cuz i have been feeling lost after graduation… and im not sure if i still wanna pursue it

Recommendation Water tanks

Hi! May nakaka alam po ba dito pano nag wowork yung water tank for a bungalow house na hindi naman nakakaranas ng mahinang flow. Ang purpose lang is mag store ng water. Dadaan sakanya yung main, then store, filter and supply sa bahay. Kailangan paba ng pump? And sa understanding ko, yung tank dapat may floating device to indicate na puno na siya from main, and mag shushut yung valve. Tama ba pagkakaintindi ko? Not a master plumber 😅 need advice para ma installan yung bahay ng parents, para ready rin in case of el niño. Thank you!

Job Hunting Architect in a Developer Company

Hi! So I just got offered a job from a developer with various developments, more on residential and also commercial. Would like to know what is the difference since I came from a design build firm on my apprenticeship. I am the first and only architect and probably be surrounded with engineers and businessmen. Would like to know the difference in terms of workload, how they handle things, etc.? Thanks
