r/arlingtonva Updates
Hello from the new moderators of r/arlingtonva. u/joyreneeblue, u/VotingRightsLawyer, and u/meamemg are now here as your friendly new moderator team.
As you can see, we've added some subreddit rules to the sidebar (shamelessly copied, for the most part, from r/SilverSpring). There shouldn't be too much controversial in there, but it gives us the basis to begin to moderate submissions to the sub to make sure that posts are on topic and not hateful or hurtful.
As we get up and going, we expect to add user and post flairs, and hopefully snaz the place up a bit. Please feel free to post suggestions here, and always feel free to reach out via mod-mail.
Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Furnished nightly rentals in Arlington while I wait on my lease to start?
Here’s my situation: I start a new job on Monday, but my apartment won’t be ready until the 15th. I really don’t want to spend two weeks in an extended-stay hotel with a hot plate and paper-thin walls. Does anyone know of furnished places in Arlington or Ballston that offer short-term nightly stays without requiring a long commitment?

Camden Potomac Yard Apt
We are looking at moving to Camden PY. Is there anyone out there that has any experience with the bldg & mgmt?
Is it clean? Well maintained? Good neighfor the most part? Any issues with them or the neighborhood? Is DCA noise an issue?
For reference, currently live in VA highlands area opposite side as the mall so used to normal DCA operations and ARL flyovers. Just didn't know if living literally across the tracks from DCA would be louder or not.

New Ballston Apartments at Macy's site
I live by the new construction at the old Macy's site and we get monthly updates from the developer via our HOA. The last one contained this tidbit:
"There will be a total of 553 rental units. There is one building under construction, divided into two separate apartment complexes with separate entrances, one on Wilson Blvd and one on Glebe Rd. The complexes will be different, marketing to different populations. Both complexes have the same management company."
I've never seen this setup before where a single building has two separate apartments. There are only a small number of units planned as affordable so I don't think one is going to be "cheap" but curious what the different demographics they are targeting are (when there's generally the one main target demo in downtown Ballston).
Has anyone seen a setup like this in the area? Also just found this which describes it as sharing amenities at the penthouse level.

Fitzroy vs Avalon Clarendon
I’m so sorry for another apartment post but anything I can find specific to either building is a bit old!! I’m heavily considering moving to Arlington in December and have toured so many buildings. So far, I’m most interested in these two buildings (Fitzroy & Avalon Clarendon).
If you have lived/currently live in either, I’d really appreciate anything you can tell me!!
One thing I’ve seen about The Earl/The Clarendon is about the noise from the bars right there. Does Fitzroy get noise too?
Thank you!!! 🥹

Beginner looking for a tennis group around Arlington
Hi all! I keep seeing people playing tennis at Quincy Park, next to Central Library, and it’s made me want to finally learn**. Are there a beginner friendly group that plays there (or nearby) regularly?** If so, how do i join. Also, the beginner classes I’ve found start around $100, which is a bit steep for me right now. Are there free or low cost clinics, meetups, or other options you’d recommend?
Also, if any other beginners want to play together, send me a message! It’d be great to have someone at a similar level to rally with.

Events Vibin in Arlington
Anyone in Arlington want to build cool stuff together?
I build tech projects as a hobby: random one-offs, web and app projects for the community, whatever a real use case calls for. I'm in the Rosslyn / Courthouse / Clarendon area.
Something I keep running into: business owners who want a new or updated site, people who want a portfolio, folks curious about coding or vibe coding, and no clear idea where to start. I'd like to run free sessions for exactly that. No cost, no catch. Bring a project you've been meaning to start, or just come learn something new.
Mostly I'm trying to gauge interest: would anyone want to meet up about once a week to learn together and build fun things?
Drop a comment or DM me if that sounds like your thing.

Housing Decent 1 BR under $2k?
I’m starting a new job in NW dc in a few weeks and am planning to move to arlington. I’m a 24 yr old female who will be living alone on a $76k salary and it seems almost impossible to find a decent 1 bedroom for a good price. I’m willing to pay up to $2k parking and all included but most affordable apartments i’m seeing have shit reviews. I prefer something between $1600-$1800 but not seeing many nice apartments at that price point. Any suggestions?

DC vs Clarendon/Courthouse
I (33M and single) am trying to decide between living in DC vs Clarendon/Courthouse but can't really make up my mind. Was wondering what the advantages will be to living in those Arlington neighborhoods compared to DC, specially the NW area (Logan/Dupont, AdMo, U-street corridor areas)?
Edit: most of my friends live in DC.

What’s with the charter buses?
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the strange increase in the amount of charter buses around the county? It’s like in the last week everywhere I turn, I see a charter bus parked or driving around. I’m just being nosy and curious if anyone knows why.

Arlington Goal Achievers meetup group
I'm working to get this group off the ground, I have never seen an equivalent and I believe in the concept. What do you all think?:
We will introduce ourselves and share our individual goals for the week. Goals can be any: personal or professional, creative or routine, etc. We will break up into pairs of accountability partners (AP). APs will further discuss their goals with each other and exchange contact info for speaking in audio. Can be phone, Instagram, etc. APs will then have the conversation a week later, before next meeting about whether they completed their goals and how. The idea is that once you have somebody who you know will be expecting you to complete the goal you will no longer procrastinate!

Moving to Arlington in mid 20s
Hello everyone, I currently live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and grew up here, so I’m ready for a change. It’s a beautiful area and on the water, but I want to experience something new. I have a clearance job in tech for a company up in Nova, so I’m looking to relocate to either Arlington or DC. I’ve read that you either want to be in DC or Arlington if you’re young and want to meet other young people.
Is this doable on a 90k salary and not wanting any roommates? Is Arlington a good place to live for those in their 20s?
Luckily my job has flexibility and I would only need to go in one day per week, so the commute isn’t really an issue. Thanks in advance for any advice.
