Discussion Can Green Arrow survive Gotham and make it better than Batman?

Post image

Can he make Gotham a better CITY than Batman can? Can he beat all of Batman's villains and hand them over to the GCPD or throw them into Arkham?

Yes, with prep Ollie can def clear almost all of Batman's rogues and hand them over to the cops. But that doesn't mean he can make the city a better place than Batman. The place is supernaturally cursed to hell, nothing short of divine intervention can save it. And divine internvention is exactly what Ollie had to do to fix Star City, and he'd have to do just that to fix Gotham

Arrowverse Ollie? Probably, yeah, given he knows how to deal with the likes of Solomon Grundy and Clayface. Remember that in the Arrowverse, Bruce isn't even Batman anymore, so there's a huge gap that not even Batwoman can fill alone. He also has infinite money, which helps a lot in fixing the mental health crisis and corruption that brought about so many villains.

I don't think any other version of Ollie could best all of comic Bruce's rogues, much less make the city better for more than a day or two. Comic Bruce and his gaggle of 10+ vigilantes can't even do that, and they have more resources than any version of Ollie.

I think batmans rogues are slightly heavier hitters.

Alot of arrows rogues are litterally what you see on the show.

Dark archers, ninja types and mercs, drug dealers.
Batman deals with metas more often.

I think he can handle a lot of them. And since he's willing to kill, yea he'll make the city a better place. The Riddler will be standing there and go "what do you call a arrow that can't fly straight?" And Oliver will just sigh and put and arrow in his chest.

What do you call an arrow that can't fly straight?

Idk where Punisher fans get this misconception but killing absolutely would not make Gotham a better place. His useless methods don't even work in NYC and he's been there for decades, so please don't bring that shit over to Ollie

Ollie explicitly stopped killing since S2, only making major exceptions for existential threats like Ra's, Darhk and Dark Arrow. Yeah he had a brief relapse in S5 but that was put to an end when he accidentally killed Billy, after which he did everything in his power to not kill and give in to Chase's games anymore

it literally and objectively would buddy

Nope. Do you actually know about Gotham lore?

1

u/Potential_Goose_7486 7d ago

not really but what about gotham lore would disprove the fact?

No. Killing ain't the answer and most of Batman's villains are less focused on physically and more on psychology.

Batman in the comics, also has a better team, better tech, and better idea of his city.

Oliver skill level can be inconsistent and the whole point of Batman being a physical badass is why he survives Gotham, not that he can beat the hell out of his villains.

It's one of the reasons why I think the writers of Arrow (who wanted a Batman show) never actually understood Batman as a character in general.

S1 Ollie?

Yeah he's murking the fuck out of Joker and no one would stop him.

He'd have trouble with Bane but considering he took out Mirakuru Slade without killing him, I think he'll have a tough time but he could do it.

You say that like Joker isn't an amazing fighter that can throw hands with Batman.

6

u/StunningPianist4231 8d ago

You do realize that S1 Ollie was dropping bodies like each week right?

You say that like S1 Oliver wouldn't shoot an arrow through his larynx just for target practice within 5 minutes of meeting him.

And? Comics Joker has contended with and beaten people better than CW Oliver. If being willing to kill frequently was enough to win against Joker, he wouldn't be Joker.

Joker can dodge bullets, he's relative to Batman.

Season one Oliver can. He was the best version of the Arrow character.

Arrow killed horrible people in the beginning. Does he kill Joker the second he gets? Then yes. Batman is a moron for keeping every single villain alive.

1

u/KonohaBatman 8d ago

"Batman is a moron because he thinks that human life is valuable and that he doesn't have the right to take it from anyone."

3

u/RememberTheMaine1996 8d ago

Omg you're so right. Batman should let the man live who killed 20,000 people. Then he can go on to kill 2,000,000 people and THEN Batman will say no sir this is too much

The justice system should put such villains on death penalnty immediately after they get captured/arrested.

We blame Batman for not killing them but neither does the authorities.

You realize that would be a failure of the justice system and not Batman, right? He doesn't oppose the death penalty - he opposes the idea that he has the right to take someone's life.

20k is ridiculous even for hyperbole - the most likely to kill of any of Batman's main villains is Joker, and even then he's nowhere remotely close outside of temporary Emperor Joker shenanigans. And even if he were, there's a counter argument for him more than balancing the scales.

Batman has more heavy hitter villains.

But Oliver does kill when necessary(also cw version killed a lot of people) so he would take down some villains faster.

Overall no though. Batman has a lot of allies and resources and still struggles(obviously the reason is the writers want to make more stories).

Arrowverse is like Arkham Batman in alot of ways but willing to kill to protect. Gotham is cursed though so i feel like hed start making a dent but then stuff would keep happening.

Just like Bruce hed fight both as a Vigilante and like Mayor of the city but due to the citys curse it would be an unending cycle.

Depends on which version of Green Arrow we are getting.

Are we talking season 1 where he kills all of the criminals without a second thought. Would he survive yes. Although I wonder how he would hold up against criminals like Scarecrow and Joker. Would he make Gotham safer. Yes because he kills all of the bad guys

Or are we talking season 2 where he doesn't kill. In which case he would still survive but he wouldn't make Gotham safer. Gotham criminals have been known to break out of prison

Yes, if the writers want this to happen

1

u/Alive_Addendum_5279 8d ago

Yes and no. Oliver needs money because long term changes are only possible by making social reforms

The wild inconsistency of comic heroes/villains is precisely why this comment section is all over the place, and why the only true answer is, "If the writers want him to, he would."

I do love me some comics and some heroes, but damn if they couldn't benefit from some house rules 😂

Stephen’s green arrow is basically Batman, so yes. If he’s the green arrow who kills, then even more yes.

The only version of a safe gotham i remember was the 2023 Flashpoint movie with Ezra miller. Meaning that a safe Gotham is never supposed to happen. That place will always be doomed!

u/OkSupermarket7474 7d ago

I mean the CW certainly thinks so when they changed Oliver from his comic personality into a rip off Batman.

Arrowverse Green Arrow is pretty much Green Batman, so...maybe?

Ideally, Batman is the sole protector of Gotham. But then Batwoman happened.

1

u/NekooShogun 6d ago

Arrowverse green arrow from season 1 maybe. He would kill them and eventually clean the city up but some of the real heavy hitters like dr.hurt he'd need batman's mindset and intelligence.

Noooooo. He gets dog walked by Bane. Joker beats him down on problem. Everyone else probably he can get them.

u/JonoBlue 8d ago

In fairness this GA is written like Batman, CW just wasnt allowed to use Batman so they just reworked Oliver from his more humorous man of the people in the comics to a brooding jackass. They even gave oliver some of Batmans rogues
