Culture/Lifestyle Short-term lease in Balkan countries

Hello! I am a digital nomad working remotely and I have plan to stay 3 months at 3 different balkan countries (in total 9 months; considering Serbia, Bosnia, and Macedonia for now). How can I get a decent place for reasonable rent price for 3 months? Where to look?

History Why do so many historical references say that Scanderbeg had Greek ancestry ? By names such as Paganel, Barrau , Rudbeck , Ahmet Müfit, Salvi , Comneno, Jessen, and authentic documents by John L. Comstock for ex given Below , where his father is called a Grecian prince ?

I found some old money in my grandma and grandpa’s cabinet, and I was wondering if anyone knows if this is worth anything or should we throw it away? 😅

Outdoors/Travel Podgorica bus station safety at night

I’m travelling to the balkans soon and my bus is planned to arrive to Podgorica bus station at midnight. I wanted to ask, how safe is arriving at that time and waking around the station at night?

I believe it should be safe as that’s my overall experience every time I’ve been around the balkans but I wanted to ask to confirm.

Thanks!

Politics & Governance Do you think (Western) Europe is doomed?

Mainly economically and geopolitically.

There are no new tech firms, and even with all their issues, America's economy is still doing way better. It seems that Germany, France... are all relying on old industries which will slowly die off, with nothing to show for once they go because countries like China take them over. High energy prices on top of that too, and a lack of resources.

I am afraid the gap between Western Europe (i'm not talking about the others because we are all still playing catch-up) and the US is more and more widening.

I am asking in this sub because we are all close to them, have been or even live there, and can look at it from a more or less neutral perspective.

Miscellaneous How common is the "Tito was replaced" conspiracy theory in former Yugoslav countries?

I saw comments on Tiktok where people were saying Tito was Russian or Polish and not Croatian due to how he spoke which i found hilariously stupid, and i also saw comments about how the real Tito was missing fingers and stuff like that.

Also there is some CIA document that analyzed his speech.

So this made me wonder, is this a commonly discussed thing in the rest of former Yugoslavia or a niche topic?

Sports Should UEFA impose total football bans in the Balkans?

Some of the latest news from the Hajduk Split v. Ajax football match include supporters shouting "Trample the Jews”, “Auschwitz, Auschwitz”, “Get up, Adolf”.

https://youtube.com/shorts/T2_iMRVFp6M?si=XpAmtS5SHtE0K7i6

Seems this type of behaviour is very common place in the Balkans yet clubs only receive fines and/or match bans.

Back in the 1980s, English football clubs were banned from European competition for five years because of their hooliganism across the continent (Liverpool received an extra year). Is this the only way to change supporter behaviour at matches?

History Macedonian and its ethnicity

I got curious when that lady fled to Bulgaria from Macedonian prison.

I seriously want to know the difference between Macedonians and Bulgarians, and why their relationship seems infected sometimes (seen on this sub).

What is the difference and and the similarities in language and culture. And when did they split in different populations, or have they never been the same?

I know all types of balkaners and they explain where they stand in nationality and culture, but from Macedonians they dont really claim anything or you could say they have no nationalistic defining features.

Please enlighten me

EDIT: Are there also peiple in Macedonia identifying as Bulgarian and vice versa? and why?

EDIT 2: I dont know why i could not post this the first time (got taken down by mods) but i have edited some things that maybe made the post unserious, i am seriously asking this question because im curious.

Is some regions better than others in Albania in November?

I know weather might not be the best, we would like to rent a cabin for 10 days in the mountains but are all the trees with dead leaves or is it still green and beautiful?

Politics & Governance Is Bulgaria becoming a safe-heaven for Macedonian criminals? This is the third case where a Macedonian declares to be Bulgarian to avoid facing the law and it's clear that Bulgaria is sponsoring and protecting people like this to fit their political naratives.

Hristijan Pendikov was caught with 0.3gr of Cocaine, when he got in trouble with the law and local street hooligans he declared himself to be Bulgarian even though his Facebook posts were pro-Macedonian nationalism, he left for Bulgaria and got Bulgarian citizenship handed over to him by the Bulgarian state.

Simeon Mihajlov attempted to murder a Macedonian politician and was sentenced to lifetime in prison later reduced down to 12 years, Simeon left the country and was extradited from Italy, where he then was placed under house arrest and left for Bulgaria illegally, where he claims he was targeted for being Bulgarian.

Iva Mihajlova (Simeon's daughter) in October caused a traffic accident that resulted in 1 dead, when investigators brought the facts that she drove 88 km/h in a 60km/h zone and entered the opposite lane illegally, she declared that she had terrible illnesses that needed immediate medical attention, even though Macedonia offered Bulgarian doctors to visit her, she eventually crossed the Macedonian border illegally and the entire Bulgarian gov. is on her side.

It is pretty clear at this stage that Bulgaria is seeking to support Macedonian criminals to fit their political agenda, I am curious, does your country have a neighbor like this, who will disregard the law to fit their political views?

Miscellaneous Why hasn't Croteam grown into becoming the Balkans' CD Project Red?

Croteam is a Croatian game studio famous for Serious Sam and the Talos Principle. Yet compared to the polish studio it hasn't grown to be that big. Why? For, me it had the largest chance at becoming that. They made technologically impressive game engines. They had ties with big developers.

Miscellaneous Where are cheapest tools in Balkans?

I am looking to buy some Dewalt tools and here in Serbia they are really expensive, double the price then in Germany for example but if I order them by the time they get here it will cost the same unless I buy a couple of them which I cannot now.

So looking where in the 'neighborhood' I can find them for cheaper and either order them, go get them myself or have someone pick them up for me, mainly looking at countries bordering Serbia and I assume it is going to be EU countries but I do not know your local stores.

Some tools I want to buy is DCD805, DCF512/513/514, one of those and maybe DCBP318 battery just for reference.

Going with Dewalt since I already have impact hammer and 2 5ah batteries.

Thanks.
