singing career advices

Hi there,

I'm new on Reddit but I'd like to have some thoughtful advice on how to be a singer and actually make music.

I don't know much about technical vocal training or whatever is related to it. I was born with a talent and I learned how to copy artists, especially Ariana Grande. I started liking her at a very young age and progressively tried to sound more like her. Even a friend told me we had similar voices (mine is lwk raspy tho). A few years ago, a cousin said that I sounded like Billie Eilish. I can go into lower ranges too. The thing is that I'm very anxious but don't worry, I'm only getting better. I just hope in two years I can invest in this idea cuz I think I have the potential to be listen to by, at least, a small community. I have no idea how the music industry works and I lwk need someone to help me. I'm still in highschool, which means I'm limited in my actions. I thought of posting TikToks about it, but it only works if you have a certain amount of followers and enough likes.

But I can write songs, except that I still need help.

I probably do not sound like a professional; maybe I wasn't so clear or went out of context, but I did my best writing ts. If you have any questions, I'm open to responding.

(English is my third language btw).

Tysm for reading.

Sounds like you are on the right track. Do you have anything recorded, like demos on soundcloud or something?

I would definitely encourage forming relationships with other artists. They could be singers or producers or musicians, whoever is also creating things around you. It's much easier to learn together + from eachother. You are young enough where you can really focus on your creations without focusing so much on the industry. Learn to create first, then learn to promote.

Keep learning who you are inspired by, keep practicing both singing and writing, learn to record if you can, and befriend people making music around you so you can all collaborate and grow together.

Good on you. Its great you have what seems like a good flexible voice the way you say you can imitate other singers. But you will need to find YOUR voice which you can do with a weekly lesson and daily practice, usually a mix of singing exercises, then song practice. Bear in mind, it will take a few years of training to get good, but you should notice a huge difference after a year of hard work.
