Music Need Advice

Good day all! Very new to this interest and wanting to make a decision soon and highly considering a Mark Levinson 5802. I only stream and have no interest with turntables and the like. Do I need a streamer for this or can I play Qobuz/Tidal directly from my iOS app using my phone/ipad? Will plan on using a USB-C to USB-B connection to the USB input if it does work. Any input is much appreciated!

Looks like you’ll need a streamer. The 5802 has digital inputs and DAC, but not the source itself. You could use a transport only, and need not spend a lot. Of course you could spend a lot, depending. Although I guess it’s possible, I would not recommend using your phone as the source.

Thank you for that information, that’s very helpful. I will plan on upgrading very soon but would like to start with the bare minimum if I do happen to make the jump in a few days for the amp. I just wanted to make sure it works with a phone for now.

Where does your concern lay? That your Apple devices will be seen by the 5802? Or that the Qobuz app for iOS won't see the 5802?

I have no issues with the Mac OS Qobuz app seeing and playing thru the Scarlett 2i4 connected to the Mac Mini in the desktop setup. Nor does the wife's iPhone running the Qobuz app have issues seeing, controlling or playing via the Bravia 8 TV with Qobuz installed.

As long as the 5802's USB protocols are to spec, then your desired route going forward should work.

Thank you so much for this comment! I just wanted to know if I am able to play anything from my phone/tablet to the ML 8502 and if it does play uncompressed

Ah, I downloaded the owner's manual to see what's what and forgot to see bitrates handled by the built in DAC.

Qobuz has an easy way to select output bitrates and frequencies. To included outputting MP3 at 320kbps.

Thank you so much! Appreciate your input! I am new to this and didn’t know any hifi stuff 2months ago and I am on a rabbit hole.
