no politics Do we want Amazon delivery drones over our backyards?

Post image

I spotted a campaign from an Aussie YouTuber I follow (Brent Pearson, his channel is about adventure bike riding & videography). His campaign is about Amazon pushing to start commercial drone deliveries in Australia.

Thought it was worth bringing up here, hopefully without breaking any sub rules.

My main concern? Losing quiet skies over my back garden.

He's actually a drone pilot and uses Amazon himself, but he is not ok with what is already happening in the US and highlighted worrisome facts:

  • Noise: Apparently, during drop-offs, the drones hit around 82 dB (like a freight train passing right near your fence).
  • Frequency: In places in the US where this is live, neighbours see a drone buzz past every 3 to 5 minutes all day long.

The main reason he's pushing this now is that once this gets approved, nearby residents basically get zero say on flight paths over their homes.

If you care about this, check his page to read what he put together and see if you want to sign: search "No Delivery Drones Brent Pearson" or "nodeliverydrones".

Less than 400ft. You can’t fly above that legally without very specific permissions and licenses

Except for horizontal separation from clouds (vertical still in feet).

Make that make sense.

Horizontal distance in aviation is always* in feet, vertical is in feet. Why? Fucked if I know.
