Comedy Speghettiman (2016)

An unemployed loser has an accident with a microwave, only to become an anti-hero who is willing to help people if they pay him. In the end he's betrayed but turns out to be the hero he never wanted to be.

This pays a little homage to Superman and Spider-Man, but there's a lot unique here and it's well worth the 1.5 hours.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4626970/

I watched it on Tubi.

Edit: yeah I botched the title: Spaghettiman

Sci-Fi Megaville (1992): Billy Zane's first leading part has hardcore monologues, L.A. subbing in as a cyberpunk dystopia, and an incoherent storyline.

This is one of those movies that's high on ideas and jargon and low on substance and intelligibility, and whose story is only really comprehensible if you've seen stuff that tell what it's trying to say in an actually intelligible manner. I loved it.

Billy Zane is a jackbooted enforcer for The Hemisphere, a totalitarian state that has banned the very concepts of media and entertainment for Reasons. He has repeated episodes upon exposure to media, which logically makes him the perfect choice to have him transferred to the CKS (implied to be some sort of secret police, though the movie never explains) and undergo a radical neurosurgery procedure to have him sub for a captured criminal and send him to Megaville, set up as a contrasting hedonistic dystopia where the little people can get all the violence and sex on TV. His job there is to intercept a deal for "Dream-A-Life", a series of highly addictive themed VR experiences that have the production values of a Sega CD game.

Reasons why a bad movie lover may want to check this bad boy out:

-One J.C. Quinn plays the deuteragonist, a hard-boiled hitman and cleaner who bookends the movie with an awesome monologue full of creative turn of sentences and colorful imagery (opening line: "Some fool once told me that the only reason we're here is to make friends and progeny. some fool huh? I'll admit there's a bastard or two running around with my DNA but as for friends? Count 'em, try. "). He says ton of cool things that make little sense. He's the best character.

-The movie was shot on a dime so all you see of "The Hemisphere" are dingy interior shots, and Megaville is represented through the dystopian sights of 90's Los Angeles. No fancy billboards, no kitting cars to make them look" futuristic". It's literally just L.A at 5 AM.

-The story is full of strange logic and holes. For instance early in the movie the president of Megavillle is suffocated during a live broadcast for telling people to not fuck their brain with shitty VR games, and the only witness is his janitor. You'd think the state would do something about the very visible murder of their head of state, but not only do they just leave the janitor zoinked on VR at the scene of crime with no guards or surveillance, but when the aforementioned hitman casually guns him down in broad daylight, nothing happens.

-The characters keep mentioning something called The Sphere. I've consumed enough shitty Cyberpunk to guess this is probably referring to shitty futuristic internet, but it could also just be a shorthand for "The Hemisphere". The dialogue is so vague and the movie never explains.

-This script is a great example of why "Show don't tell" is such a oft-repeated aphorism. As I mentioned above, Megaville is descried by the characters as a hub of decadence where people destroy their brain with hentai and violent video games, but beside a brief sequence where you see the aforementioned janitor get hooked on shitty VR Civil War larps, this is just never shown. It's a very boring and sedate modern-day dystopia.

-Daniel J. Travanti plays the main villain, the head of the Hemisphere's secret police, who keeps getting more ill throughout the movie for reasons that are never explained (seeing a pattern here?) and hams it up accordingly.

And before anyone ask, yes it,' on Tubi (the Canadian one anyway).

Holy crap, this movie is a ride. Shot on what was probably a budget of $237.82 and sandwiches, it's a tour de force. This is what happens when you put a slasher horror together with melodrama. Sounds like it's gonna be a bad time, but like the band Skindred, the unintuitive pairing somehow works. Plot revolves around two brothers who watched their parents murdered by a scorned business associate, which leads to one brother running a psyop on the other over petty bullshit regarding the family business they inherited. Oh, and is their parents' killer back, now stalking people while wearing a pelt mask? Some good twists and turns, especially the end. Some of the acting touches on The Room levels of over the top, but I think this one is well worth a watch.

For me, this is actually quite borderline when it comes to quality. This is a silly, fun movie. Dumb as hell but a lot of fun. BTW, Klaus Kinski decided to do this instead of Raiders of The Lost Ark. He thought wrestling with a rubber snake was more to his liking, LOL!

I hesitate to call this movie "bad", since it's pretty new and a lot of fun, but I think it qualifies in general terms. The production values aren't amazing, but they aren't horrible either. It's worth a watch, especially as we head towards Halloween.

At it's heart, it's a heist movie with some strange differences (voodoo, evil dolls, criminals in love, ghosts, and other trickery).

Two failing (or failed, perhaps) horror movie writers try desperately to come up with a movie idea to make a rich uncle happy. When they feel like nothing is working and the rent is overdue, the dumbest one of them books an artist's retreat to solve the problem and encounter a whole bunch of weird real-life characters. Things get slashy from there.

Horror Help: what order to play Night of the Demons 2 & The Video Dead?

I’m hosting a spooky movie marathon for some friends. Often times I have not watched the movies ahead of time, and I just guess how to order them. I’m having trouble deciding if I should close out with The Video Dead or Night of the Demons 2.

Does anyone who has watched both movies have any thoughts about which should be played last? My gut is to end with NotD2 because it’s a movie taking place at a Halloween party, but the Video Dead seems more bonkers and might be stronger to finish with.

There will be a few movies before these two but these are making me second guess myself.

In 1996, the 13th Festival of Fantastic Film took place in Amsterdam, also known as the Weekend of Terror. The festival was famous for its wild audience, who would loudly react, shout, and heckle the actors on screen during horror films. Female characters in particular had to endure the abuse and were routinely greeted with the slur “WHORE!” A report from Amsterdam Public Access TV.

It’s basically Star Wars, but with costumes from H&M and Gap, with a bad guy who’s probably a backyard wrestler. Great film to watch with your mates.

Boobalicious Blood Car (2007)

75 Minutes of socially awkward dystopia - in a near (and currently quite plausible!) future, gasoline becomes unaffordable. Archie, an elementary school teacher and vegan by conviction is developing an engine operated on the basis of wheat. During one otherwise failing attempt, he accidentally cuts himself and realises that blood is the missing ingredient. Soon admired for his success, he struggles to hold up to the insaturable thirst of his blood car and begins a murderous spread against all morality, to a hilarious effect. Not quite the gorefest you'd expect but feelgood entertaintment none the less. Topless actresses included - except for this poster, which has been adapted to American Audiences.

Horror What are Your Best B-Movie TV Finds?

It was about ten-years ago that I stumbled upon B-Movie TV on Roku. Since it's 24-hour streaming and they don't seem to post a programming list anywhere, loading the channel is a bit of a roulette wheel. You might stumble on a women in prison film, maybe an unknown noir, some goofy sci-fi from the 80s that never got a theater release.

I think one of the best I came across was a horror movie called Dream Demon (hence why I picked the horror thread flair). I love incoherent horror movies and horror movies that have a dream element, such as Beyond Dream's Door and Nightwish, as the dream mechanic adds to the surrealness and incoherence of the plot. Hence, Dream Demon stood out to me. Spoiler alert: There's no actual Dream Demon, no Freddie stalking anyone's dreams. Instead, the dreams are more like mind fucks. But there are scenes of decapitation via literal bitch slaps. Also, a scene with one of the protagonists authoritarian artist father accidently setting himself on fire while he has her tied up as an angel as some sort of strange art piece is absolutely terrifying and goes on way longer than a modern horror movie would.

The Most Dangerous Game meets aliens(not the movie). Ranges from tedium to laugh out loud stupidity, it is sad to see the amount of veteran actors being in this turd. Most painful is Ralph Meeker, barely having any dialogue, making what would be his final film appearance. I heard his appearance was a favor to him because he suffered a stroke so the producer gave a bit part in this movie. One of my favorite chuckle worthy moments is when Jack Palance charges at the ET and screams "ALIEN!". I know people have claimed that this inspired the future creation of Predator but I doubt it. Human hunting goes all the way back at least to the film I mentioned before, The Most Dangerous Game from 1932 so to throw in an alien isn't really taxing one's imagination. Check it out if you want a good laugh!
