Looking for DDK Lessons
I’ve been playing Go casually for about a year and have just joined a very small local club that meets once a week, but am just on a crazy losing streak. I want to get better because I enjoy it so much, and would love to find someone to take lessons with. I checked out OGS and a lot of the other sites and don’t think I necessarily need to spring $50/hr for a dan-level teacher (no offense, I’m simply not that good). Best I can figure is I’m around 15kyu and would appreciate any recommendations!

I'm always happy to give you a few free lessons. Feel free to message me.
For paid lessons, you could hire a pro for that amount. But honestly, you can always get free game reviews & study resources from Reddit... there's plenty. I've gotten great feedback from dan players here.

Contraband Go says on his videos that a $20 subscription to his Patreon includes one lesson per month.

It's not super close to you so you probably wouldn't want to make it a regular thing, but feel free to join us at the Ithaca go club any Thursday between 7 and 11. We have lots of folks who are happy to teach newer players, and a pretty steady stream of new or returning players too.

I heard you guys have a tournament coming up in November? I’d love to check it out!

I bet you're thinking of the self-paired tournament that the Syracuse go club puts on every fall, but we'll probably have at least a few people there too!

It's surprisingly big, and I'm saying that as somebody who grew up in the midwest. Rochester to Ithaca is a bit under 2 hours, but it's mostly a nice easy drive through the Finger Lakes.

$50 you can already get pro level teachers already, check https://badukteacher.com/teachers
They can help review your games (if you recorded them), or play a game with you and then review it together, or go through concepts/topics that you want to strengthen on. It's a common misconception that DDK or Kyu level players will not benefit from a very strong teacher, as they may be "too strong" for the student. In fact, good pro-level teachers are able to adjust the level of their teaching to which the students can absorb. It's good to start learning the game from very strong teachers, so that you don't need to unlearn wrong concepts later. The only thing is that they may not always take lower Kyu students so you may need to chat with them to confirm.

Oh I totally agree, I just don’t have much to spend and don’t want to waste a dan players time lol

Nick Sibicky on youtube used to post his lessons from his DDK class at the community he taught at. It's been a while and he doesn't do it anymore but the videos are still there and I loved them when I was starting

I watched a bunch of his videos earlier this year! I like them but there’s so much ground to cover. Maybe I should go back and watch a few more

There are dozens lol When I was around that strength I found the book Lessons in the Fundamentals of Go to be incredibly helpful as well

There's a beginner go discord that runs a monthly tournament for DDKs and pairs you up with an SDK to mentor, if you're interested.
