not being able to talk about my harmless snake while being around dogs that have eaten my pets…

Post image

this is a little bit of a rant, but I have had family members pets eat my parrots in the past… Like twice, both times I was just at the store and they just came into my house to put their dogs away (we live on a compound property) these dogs have also attacked so many people, but because they are just small dogs it’s considered normal for some reason, but I’m not even allowed to talk about my snake in front of them because it’s so scary and dangerous… Be so serious.

also, those two parrots was my first ever pet when I was five and the animal that was like my absolute soulmate when I was 16 🫩

Im so sorry to hear about your parrots! They are such amazing animals, its just so sad for their life to be taken in such a gruesome way. I hope you are able to get far away from these people soon…

i sure hope so too, it’s just genuinely SO frustrating when i can’t even dare to speak his name lol, while their dogs are biting my ankles 🫩 it’s okay tho because now they don’t come in my house lol. for all they know he could be on the prowl waiting to strike

It never stops. You’ll be an adult and mention you have a snake and people will react crazy

When people find out I have rattlesnakes you would think I told them I have a cage in my basement full of al qaeda militants

but they are sizing you up!!!! they are evil
and gonna kill you because they are “poisonous”!!!! 😂😂

The amount of times people visiting have made 'jokes' about going to find a gun or knife when I casually mentioned having a pet snake in the other room.

Would it be funny if I made a joke about killing their cat or dog?? I'll never understand why some people think it's funny to say something like that 🫠

one time i told them id kill my snake when they killed their dog and ig that was a HORRIBLE thing to say, and i should be ashamed of myself 😂

An ex-boyfriend of mine didn't have the same leeriness that I do of talking about my snake with new people, and he brought her up as an ice breaker at a party once. Some random dude I didn't even know, barely said two words two just outright said, "If I ever saw your pet, I'd cut its head off." He even used the word pet, and somehow he still thought that was an acceptable thing to say out loud. My ex learned that day, there's a reason I don't bring her up casually.

I'm very sorry. That sounds awful. I don't have snakes. But following here has made me see just how cute they can be and helped my fear. This is my favorite morph and they look like they are in a great setup. Are they a nice snake? And can we have a name? 🐍

he’s a super sweet boy, he’s disabled due to the spider morph (he’s a banana calico spider enchi) but he’s soooo sweet :) i can’t wait to see the way his colors evolve as he gets older. his name is Mac… big mac, macadamia nut, Judas Maccabeus, Mac Miller… The list goes on 😂

Oh! Good on you for helping him! Does he eat well?? I'm here to let you talk about him. And - wait for it - is your humidity good? 😂

Honestly, my nephew and his girlfriend brought a snake home when they lived with my sister. FIRST SNAKE I EVER TOUCHED. Then I became obsessed with her. A banana I believed. I came here to reddit and was like they are not taking good care of her. My sister asked them to find a better home for her. I sincerely hope they did.

i hope they did too, there’s an epidemic of people not taking care of their animals :( that’s where i got my boy, a family friend had him and basically told me that she wanted nothing to do with him less than a month into having him because he’s so “evil” and was wasting her money by not eating… he’s never refused a meal from me! i do struggle with his humidity, but really it’s his temps that are difficult 😭😭 but even after eating he prefers his cool hide despite it being identical to his hot hide. but other than that, he processes all his meals just fine so… i guess he’s just special 😂

but i love him so much and he doesn’t hate hanging out, so it’s a win win lol

Win win!!! So many helpful tips all throughout this sub. I worked in cat and dog rescue of the abused and unwanted for many years. I think that's why I freaked out over their ball once I started reading up on care. This sub has taught ME so much that someone will post a picture or their ball and I'm all like "it's your lack of humidity! Look at their poor eye caps!" Like I actually have one and know what I'm talking about! 😂 I really hate the evil myth. No animal is evil. But humans are. And maybe Chihuahuas. Best of luck to you and Mac. 🫶🏻 Hope to see you back here and everyone has so much knowledge if you need any help!

I hate bad owners because it makes the dogs look bad...

Wow, the same thing happened to my pet parrot when I was a kid! And I’m treated the same way whenever my snake comes up in convo. It’s weird I almost avoid mentioning my pet snake a lot because of it. I don’t get the stigma. People are odd

10

u/CommissionGlum5552 1d ago

that’s crazy!! i was kind of hoping it was a unique experience 😭 but it’s honestly almost funny at this point how stigmatized reptiles are… They are hypoallergenic, clean, most of the ones that we own as pets can’t even really hurt you, and people are just so uneducated. It’s honestly so funny how many people have asked me if he’s venomous… ah yes. the python, famous for its vicious venom.

4

u/Ok-Fault9704 1d ago

For real like, they barely even have teeth. We need to start a ball python awareness campaign showing everyone how harmless and cute they are. I don’t want to be lumped in with the cuckoo venomous snake owners.

"Oh a python! A snake infamous for strangling it's prey with raw power. Is it  *poisonous** if I'm allowed to ask?"* -aah people

4

u/Lanky-Panic 1d ago

Na I get it too. I've had people actually say they would kill mine if they saw because they hate snakes so much. It's disgusting that people are so uneducated. I've been asked if I'm afraid he's going to eat me..sigh.. yes the 2ft snake that gets scared of his shadow is going to eat me!

4

u/theladyinky 20h ago

I always tell people that if my ball python can manage to to eat me, then she’s earned the meal 😂

4

u/Lanky-Panic 20h ago

Pretty much😄first he's got to catch me!

4

u/theladyinky 20h ago

Lmao for real! She’s either in her cozy rock hide or her log hide all day. She’ll come out to “hunt” when she’s hungry, but that just means she drapes herself out on her little tree and her hides! 😂

She’s a threat alright… to frozen thawed rodents! 🤣

3

u/Lanky-Panic 20h ago

Mine does the same! He's invisible until it's food time. Although he's been coming out more to stare at me through the doors. Hmm.. maybe he's plotting my demise😂 The most he'll do is hiss at me a few times. I guess he might be able to eat my finger

It’s genuinely makes me soooooooooooooooooooo upset that people absolutely refuse to train small dogs because “there small and cute and can’t do any damage to anything” bigger dogs who’ve done a fraction of the shit small dogs have gotten away with, get put down all the time, I can’t stress how much I hate those bug eyed little fuckers when there not trained which is 95% of the time

6

u/CommissionGlum5552 1d ago

i know!!! i love big dogs with all my heart but im genuinely so scared of small dogs because 9 out of ten times they are COMPLETELY untrained. The family member who owns those dogs also took no responsibility, and also claims all they need to know is sit and come… yikes. and every dog she’s ever owned has been like that 🫩

told her once my (at the time) 5 month old snake is better trained than her 9 year old dogs 😂

13

u/RitSplit 1d ago

Assert dominance, eat the dogs /j

11

u/CommissionGlum5552 1d ago

i’ll send my 350g snake after them 😂 since he’s sizing us all up, yknow. he’s a hungry boy

7

u/mynameisnotnotowen 1d ago

Take it out back….

And train it!!!

But for real that sucks. They need to respect your space and train their dogs.

It annoys me so much honestly. All over the internet too. People commenting shit like "I'd kill that thing if it ever got near me!" but if I said that about someone's cat I'd be called a psychopath. Make it make sense!

I wish noodles still had legs so they can dropkick their haters but then they won't be noodles anymore. I once had a carrot addicted budgie and he passed away due to a fungus infection. I understand how it feels to loose a beloved pet, but loosing it because of another pet and also twice plus not being allowed to talk about a harmless boop noodle while the dog being a menace must feel ten times worse. Fly high, innocent birbs 🕊️

I'm also sorry about your parrots!

Some owners of dogs (and cats) really shouldn't have them as pets.

And to also rant a little, while I like most animals (ticks can bugger off, through), some dog owners annoy me to no end.

First, my little ball python does not try to eat droppings of other animals, rolls around in mud and cow poop, leaves bits of dried shredded pig ears on the floor, but the snake is 'disgusting'? Really?

Second, unless your hand smells like mouse, she won't bite. And even if she does, it doesn't even hurt. Some dogs, due to not being properly raised, scratch, bite, even 'friendly' as a welcome. And when they get aggressive, it can get really ugly. But the ball python is the scary pet?

Rant over. You have a beautiful little ball python, and I hope you bring each other mich happiness!

people are so fucken weird about “creepy” pets. the first year I had my ball python my family would make “”””jokes”””” about how they wanted to kill him and “chop his head off and throw him in a fire”

2

u/TOSGANO 10h ago

Jesus christ, that's psychotic. My parents weren't thrilled, but my mom was still there to help me figure out how to thaw a frozen mouse for the first time. (This was 20 years ago, I was still a teenager, and I had definitely overestimated how prepared I was to open a box and pull out a dead mouse.)

3

u/Superseaslug 22h ago

Not allowed? Oh, that's one line I would not stay behind. If they call you on it just bring up the dogs kill count.

And no, that is absolutely not normal and is a clear sign of horrible owners.

3

u/Powerful-Tree5192 21h ago

This lil guy is so cuteeee, I’m sorry you aren’t able to talk about it. My mom is also less than enthusiastic about mine.

3

u/Awkward_Read2583 19h ago

I'm genuinely sad for you man. plus just look at this noodle. HOW COULD THIS BE SEEN AS DANGEROUS. the most dangerous thing this one could do is biting you so hard it would get itchy

u/OhThresherShark 18h ago

He has a Mickey Mouse headstamp!
