Build Request / Review Upgrade help

Just bought a used PC on marketplace and got an extra 100 bucks to spend on upgrades. Should I upgrade it at all or just leave it?

For context it’s for my son and he only plays Roblox, Minecraft, and Fortnite.

Specs:

3200G CPU
16gb DDR4
RX 570 8gb
256gb ssd
550w psu

Thanks!!

Maybe a cheap used rtx 2060 will cost a bit more than 100 but its quite a bit faster while having game ready drivers and DLSS will help big time in games.

Used Ryzen 5 3600/3600X: $50-60.

Use the rest to buy any available SSD that's 256-500GB, or a 1TB HDD if you can find it.

CPU over a gpu?

That CPU is 4 cores and 4 threads on Zen+. 3600 has 6 cores 12 threads on Zen 2. It's anywhere between 30-100% faster depending on game, with a GPU as weak as an RX 5700.

A lot of the games you mentioned are CPU intensive, and needs a decent CPU.

$100 won't get you much of an GPU upgrade, especially when the PC is going to be CPU bound.

Great feedback thank you. I’ll maybe look for a 3600 or a 5500.

You won't be able to easily find a 5500 for $50-60.

It's still being sold so people still overprice it.

3600s go for those all day long on FBM or Kijiji.

Yeah I think they gave you some good advice. The Ryzen 5 3600/3600x, while an older model than the 5500, has 32mb of l3 cache to the 5500's 16mb, helping with 1%lows, and can support pcie 4 (if motherboard supports it).

Well $100 doesn't give you much to work with, you could consider upgrading the CPU to a Ryzen 5 5500f (if the motherboard supports pcie 4) or a Ryzen 5 5500, though either may need a BIOS update.

You'll likely want to upgrade the GPU, I would think, though that would need to wait for a bit more cash. Could look for a used Rtx 30-series or RX 6000-series GPU.

I'm not super familiar with the used GPU market, but yeah like u/ImKrispy said if you could swing an Rtx 20-series GPU that would still be a major upgrade

Just leave it if he only play roblox 60hz enough if you still wanna spent $100 spent on $40 on good mechanical keyboard and 30-45$ on mouse rest keep the same whne its time to upgrade build the pc from the starting, Right now ram and ssd is expensive, just start saving and look for combo deal to get ram and SSD or cpu

Good idea! He’s been wanting the satisfying clicks of a mechanical keyboard lol.
