Yesterday's ATH

This Week's Schedule (all times Eastern)

As a reminder about the original trade, as well as their 2026 contributions for each team:

Mets Received:
Freddy Peralta (1.2 fWAR, 4.99 ERA, 4.45 FIP, 113.2 IP)
Tobias Myers (0.1 fWAR, 5.53 ERA, 4.65 FIP, 53.2 IP)

Brewers Received:
Brandon Sproat (0.1 fWAR, 5.57 ERA, 5.21 FIP, 97.0 IP)
Jett Williams (still in AAA)

I don't think I have to explain why this trade was bad for the Mets (i have heard it plenty), but there is also a very strong possibility that it could backfire for the Brewers too.

Brandon Sproat had a rough rookie year where he struggled with command and was left off of the postseason roster altogether. Jett Williams would've likely have made his debut this year, but he got injured and was underperforming anyways. The Brewers also attempted to send Jett Williams away in their Tarik Skubal package, so they may not view them too highly. The Brewers are also facing Peralta in the World Series, meaning that this trade could actually be their biggest obstacle to winning a championship.

These two teams can still salvage this trade if the Mets prospect package for Peralta works out and if Sproat and Jett can get right for the Brewers in the future, but both teams were worse off in the short-term for making this trade.

The Kansas City Royals played in the AL West from 1969 (when the team and division was founded) to 1993, moving to the AL Central after. They won AL West division titles in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1984, and 1985, winning six total in their 24 years in the division.

The Seattle Mariners was founded in 1977 as an AL West team, playing there since. They won the AL West title in 1995, 1997, 2001, and 2025, winning four total in their 49 years (and counting) in the division.

Got the job done but not great to see.

World Series Game 7 is scheduled for October 31, 8:00 EDT. For November baseball on the East coast, this game must happen. Additionally, either 1) Game 7 must last 4 hours, past midnight, or 2) a postponement must happen at some point.

******MATH*****\*

Since the expanded format in 1985, 13/40 (33%) of World Series have gone 7 games and, of those game 7s, 3/13 (23%) have lasted over 4 hours (2025, 2016, 1997).

Best I can tell, 2/13 (15%) of those had a postponement: in 1986, the final 2 games had an off day between, and in 2011, games 5 and 6 had two days off between.

Assuming postponement and 4+hours are independent events, there is a 35% chance of postponement or 4+ hours (33% + 23% - 3.5%).

Again assuming independence, there is an 11% chance of a game 7 and one of the above happening (33% * 35%).

******NOTE #1*****\*

“But,” I can hear you saying, “why do you need the 'mainland US' qualifier in the title? Isn't Puerto Rico in Atlantic Standard time, which is the same as EDT until Daylight Savings starts at 2 AM on November 1, so their November baseball lives and dies with the rest of us?"

No, you FOOL, because you've forgotten about GUAM. Guam is in Chamorro Standard time, which will have a Game 7 start time of 10 AM November 1st.

******OBJECTION #2*****\*

"But," I can hear you saying (louder now), "isn't this an incredibly stupid post using a miniscule sample size that roundly ignores weather, team quality, the pitch clock, and the recent trend of longer games, in complete violation of all laws of statistical analysis and basic common sense?"

Yes.

What baseball games did you play as a kid? Still play? (I came up with my own baseball dice game using my brothers' Dungeons and Dragons dice)

Jim Rosenhaus on the Cleveland radio broadcast mentioned that only four Rays were "homegrown" (originally drafted/signed by the Rays) - Jonathan Aranda, Chandler Simpson, Taylor Walls and Ian Seymour.

On the other hand, five Rays were originally signed by Cleveland: Junior Caminero, Yandy Diaz, Richie Palacios, Kevin Kelly, and Cole Sulser

After receiving a great response from posting my Carlton Fisk ticket search and the Cal Ripken ticket hunt, I thought I would let you all know about my friend Scott’s equally impressive ticket stub quest!
