I started on bass clarinet and switched to bassoon in 9th grade, and now I'm a professional bassoonist! Go for it!

Go for it! I think the bassoon has the most beautiful sound, and it’s a very rewarding instrument to play. It’s highly recommended to find an instructor and to take regular lessons, especially starting out. The embouchure will be a bit different, but not too difficult to adjust to quickly. Finding good reeds will be a big issue at first. Some student players might be lucky and have an instructor who’ll make reeds for them. But otherwise plan on budgeting a sizable wad of cash to shop around for different makes of reeds at first until you find one works well for you. Good luck.
