So many dogs are willing to put up with such a high degree of discomfort without lashing out, and so a lot of "dog people" are shockingly bad at reading even their own dogs.
Tbf, I was definitely like this until I got a dog who made his discomfort my problem too, and I was forced to learn to see the early signs. And as much as my dog can be a pain in the ass, it's hard to begrudge him when I know I spent months ignoring the subtler signs; I basically taught him he needed to be more obvious.
Some dogs do have seemingly endless tolerance, but it's hard to watch once you're attuned to what's going on. Not only because you know they could someday hit a breaking point and rapidly jump up the chain of aggression, but also just because it sucks to know they live their lives unable to communicate their distress.

loads of people in there defensive af. to a certain extent i get it — who wants to consider they just enjoyed a video of a dog under duress, when they could tell themselves it's a redditor grandstanding for clout? still shameful

I didn't even have to scroll up to know exactly which clip it was. :(
Cats are the same, I tend to watch my cat's body language with new people... I can tell my one cat is "annoyed" with them (just let me SNIFF you first before PETS), but he never takes issue with it... worst thing he'll do is jump down and leave. The other cat likes pets, but if you refuse to introduce yourself properly (back of the hand, until HE is satisfied with your smell) he wants nothing to do with you for the rest of the day.
My niece used to have this terrible habit of back-petting the one cat. And since he's long-haired, it caused terrible matting. Even then, not a hint at "angry ears", biting, or lashing out, he'd just remove himself from her reach.
Maybe I'm just in-tune, but I feel like most animals are fairly easy to read.

He is playing a really long game of Russian Roulette. Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. Maybe he will get lucky and the dog will run away or passes on before it happens but if not one day that guy is going to lose a part of his face. Or worse some kid or neighbor or girlfriend will get it instead because when the dog starts warning this low value scum will blow it off as "Eh he does that all the time." Then that dog that for years gave warning after warning begging in the only way it knows how to please be left alone will be put down. All because this sad shriveled nut sack loser wanted some views. He should be ashamed of himself.

Just because it hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t mean that what that dog’s doing isn’t a threat response.

Jesus Christ the rest of the commenters under the post are all the dumbest people on the planet.
The comment shared here is 100% correct. This is not a happy dog and it drives me crazy when people try to say otherwise on these sorts of posts.
Posts of people abusing their pets because it looks funny or cute are such a cancer.
