Bolsa and Gus both wanting Lalo dead without being able to tell each other is one of the best written parts of the show

They both have to play around each other pretending they both want him alive while also doing things to want him dead without letting each other know they want him dead.

BB Plot armor makes sure Gus is "ahead of the game", but even then they made sure to do what both needed to be done with elegance.

Great writing. Fuck they were on their game with this show.

when Chuck was suing HHM for $8 mil, he said he knew that the first didn't have that kind of money. How was that remotely possible for a law firm that size?

when Chuck was suing HHM for $8 mil, he said he knew that the first didn't have that kind of money. How was that remotely possible for a law firm that size? or was the firm already in deep financial trouble at the time?

Howard Hamlin was a fighter Spoiler

Yeah,he was kind of a fighter. He did took some wrong decisions, I mean, every coin has two sides. But still he didn't deserved to die at all. Well, either ways, a tribute to howard Hamlin, a fine and charismatic man.

I’ve been rewatching seasons 2 and 3, and I feel like Hectors character is written very differently in both seasons.

Now, I know he goes through an Arc: in season 2, he is the most powerful figure in the cartel based out of the US, but once Mike starts destroying Hectors business, he loses power and influence, becomes weaker than Gus, and his paranoia increases. But he is so much more articulate and intelligent in season 2. Both of his negotiation scenes with Mike really show that. But in season 3 he’s always deranged and much more emotional. It just seems like a pretty big jump over a period that was within a few months in the timeline of the show.

How does Lalo miss Nacho’s slip up? Spoiler

Post image
41 Upvotes

In S5E1, Lalo is trying to figure out who Werner Ziegler and “Michael” are. While Crazy 8 is collecting, Nacho repeatedly says he doesn’t know who Michael is. However, they’re sitting at the same restaurant that Tuco was arrested at after the whole Michael incident. The reason Tuco is out.

How is Lalo so smart in all other aspects but somehow does not know about that event or wasn’t informed as to the fallout of Tuco?

Edit to add: The Salamanca’s had a full family effort to resolve the Tuco situation with Michael. The idea that Lalo is picking up on the Werner situation, but is somehow unaware of the named, followed individual that put his cousin in jail just doesn’t add up.

What kind of personality does Gus Fring have?

Gus Fring is a very interesting character. He's a gentleman, a perfectionist, extremely disciplined, but also ruthless enough to kill people without hesitation.

What fascinates me is that he doesn't seem to be motivated by money or luxury.

What do people with this kind of personality actually want in life? Is it power, control, perfection, or something else? What give them happiness

The true hero of Better Call Saul Spoiler

Post image
453 Upvotes

When I first started watching BCS, Howard was my least favorite character and seemed to be the biggest antagonist within the law storylines, as I was pulling for young, hungry Jimmy to make his mark on the world. Early on he seemed worse than Chuck even.

But season by season it becomes abundantly clear that Howard is one of the most honorable, respectable, truly great human beings in the BCS universe, while Jimmy’s descent into Saul Goodman becomes a character no sane person can say is worth truly rooting for despite his charismatic appeal.

Simply amazing character arch’s in opposing directions and I’m genuinely devastated at how things ended for my guy Howard. He deserved so much better…..

Why did Mike/Gus ‘take care’ of Lalo, then reverse everything?

I dont get the plan to have Lalo in hail, and then go through all the trouble to get him out again. Couldnt they just figured out before that any trouble on Lalo, would make the cartel be suspicious?

Why didnt chickenman call Bolsa, Eladio and convey how the Salamancas arent acting in cartel interest? Tuco, hector and even Lalo behaved like a bunch of thugs. Complete idiots. Cartel across the border would never make such a mess, public wars. No way. But Gus putting Mike to get Lalo in prison and then all the trouble to undo that was also very stupid. Imo.

How realistic is the Chicanery episode?

Question for any legal professionals here on the Chicanery episode: how realistic is the debate they’re having over the tape’s evidentiary value? They’re opening up by stating that Chuck was “building a case” on the contents of the tape, but that’s where this feels like it’s already flying off the rails: this tape is evidence in a case that has a nonexistent stack of paperwork attached and zero actual legal proceedings? When it comes down to “destruction of evidence”, is the bar for “evidence” really that low? If someone tears up my Bon Jovi poster, can i make it a felony by claiming “it was going to be evidence in a trial, i just haven’t turned it over to my lawyer”?

They’re almost arguing about whether it actually would be evidence in a hypothetical-case against Jimmy, but if the case itself is hypothetical, then is it evidence? What if the case never happens(which we know is how it plays out. And Chuck even admitted so to Howard away from the bar hearing).

My problem with Jesse in BCS

I'm about to watch the series finale, but before I do out of curiosity, how long was the time gap between the end of Breaking Bad and the final season Better Call Saul? I mean both in universe time and in terms of when the shows release times to be clear.

I ask because Aaron Paul's guest appearances at the end of this last season really threw me off. Maybe it's because I'm just coming off a rewatch of El Camino but it's just weird season Aaron Paul dressed up as young Jesse Pinkman even though he still looks (facial looks speaking) like El Camino Jesse because Aaron is so much older now.

I don't really have a problem with the facial changes in El Camino because, for one, they didn't have Aaron dressing like he's cosplaying a younger version of his own character but also Jesse was tortured for a long time so it kinda just makes sense to me he'd age from that but in BCS idk to me how much Aaron Paul looks as a young Jesse is world breaking for me.

Anyways, this isn't to hate on Aaron Paul. On the small chance he ever sees this, I'm just some guy on the internet giving a shit take. I still love this universe, and all these stories, the fan service of having Jesse with a significantly older Aaron Paul, just threw me off.

First time viewer, just finished series. Brilliant everything, except the last episodes in my opinion

I finally gave Breaking Bad a chance, and binge watched the series in about 3 weeks, so dove into BCS, which took about 4 weeks. Love the cinematography, writing, directing, and acting, even some scenes were paced a bit too slow for my taste. I did not however, like the 2nd half of the last season in the sequel stage. That really could have been done in a single episode in my opinion. Picked back up in the final episode a bit, but everything necessary could probably have been condensed into it.

Ranking the Tragedies across Both Series

Between BB & BCS, 338 people die. Some of them, we applaud their deaths (Don Eladio, Todd, Tuco, Lydia etc). Some we are shocked by (Gus, Lalo, Howard). But I'm wondering in specific, what are the tragedies. It'd be easy to say "they're ALL tragedies," but then, which are the very worst. The saddest, most unnecessary of all the killings?

Here's my top 5:

1) Drew Sharpe, the kid on the bike in the desert. His whole life ahead of him, done nothing wrong but be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
2) Andrea. Her little brother forced into selling drugs and then murdered. Her serious boyfriend (Jesse) ghosts her, her son gets severely, nearly fatally ill and then she's shot to death out of the blue to teach Jesse a lesson.
3) Nacho Varga. He made mistakes, sure, but his death was so avoidable except for his love of his father. The gun to his father's head sealed his fate far in advance of the arrival of the bullets.
4) Werner Ziegler. Not a bad man. Honestly, a delightful one. But, couldn't follow orders.
5) Chuck McGill. A bad man. I mean, barely, when compared to the monsters on these two shows, but definitely an obsessive talent whose main goal seemed to be the desire to hold his brother down. His suicide was nonetheless tragic.

Bonus Mentions: Mike's son, killed for being an honest cop. Every passenger on Wayfarer Flt 515, and honestly, I'd say Jesse Pinkman, except that he lives. Sort of.

BCS to BrBa transition

I have completed the rewatch of BCS till S06E09. Several reels and Gus too have suggested to start from here to BrBa. Now i have already watched BrBa earlier. I am not thinking to go it all over again.

Can you guys suggest the major episodes where Saul, Mike and Gus have major roles? I would like to watch that and then maybe comeback and finish the later episodes of BCS.

Again BCS is much better than BrBa but BCS would not have existed without BrBa. So let’s go with it.

Thanks.

Personally I've been thinking wormald since I can chalk up what Werner did to being the result of Stockholm syndrome, thinking Mike was his good friend that would forgive him

Veterinarian vs Kim

Thumbnail gallery
775 Upvotes

I just had a big brain moment that I had to share, may be obvious but it took me watching this show for the millionth time to notice. I'm on s6ep6 where Jimmy and Kim are at the vets office testing out the drug they'll eventually use on Howard to frame him as a drug addict, and the vet mentions how he wants to quit the illegal side of his business and focus exclusively on his veterinarian practice. He points to a cork board with all these letters and pictures of the animals he's saved and comments on how THAT is what he does it for.

As the vet leaves the room, Jimmy comments how it's such a shame for him to give it all up but Kim walks to the cork board, looks at it, at says "well, he knows what he wants".

For the vet his TRUE passion is saving animals and it's displayed on the cork board in his office, whereas at home Kim's cork board is the scheme against Howard.

Immediately following this scene we see Kim in court arguing on behalf of a client how his rights were violated. Kim's whole reasoning for the Howard scheme is so they can get the sandpiper money to fund her pro bono cases, but at this point we know she's just doing it for the love of the game. The contrast between the vet's cork board and Kim's cork board creates an interesting parallel where Kim believes she is just like the vet, and that she is doing bad to do good, but in reality the bad is what she puts in a cork board proudly not her pro bono cases.

Idk I just really enjoyed the little cork board comparison and the vet being a foil to Kim in that moment, I know everybody in this sub enjoys that little stuff too.

The Kim/Mesa Verde and Jimmy dont add up

Kim was a great character but from s5 the mr Acker situation it doesnt make sense.

First as a lawyer you never represent yourself or get in conflict with opposing councel on private grounds. Never. She offered to withdraw once Jimmy got in but a real lawyer would just withdraw, end off. She would be liable for disciplinary action if she didnt.

Paige also would never allow such thing. Never.

Jimmy right back into lawyering, himself would be liable for another disciplinary sanction just by accepting the case. Even if Kim wouldnt turn him in, surely her team or Schweikart would use this threat in a heartbeat.

Kevin might be an idiot but putting his whole firm on just one outside councel lawyer was stupid. Kim either would be demsnded to beef up herself with more lawyers or Mesa Verde would have a much bigger inhouse legal team talking sense into him with keeping Kim.

The whole Acker plot blowing up Kims idea for law also doesnt make any sense (or ackers stance); you go through law school you pretty quickly step off the idealism:dura lex sed lex.

In turn: jimmy would either be cured in law school from slippin, or he would never get through. He never acts like a highly educated person, mail law school or not.
